Apple Maps has obviously improved a lot, and in many ways I think it exceeds Google Maps. But, where it does not beat Google Maps are in the most important areas, and that is in intelligence of searching for POIs and intelligence in alternate routes. Ask Siri (maps) for the nearest Costco and hear the "I found this one" and she shows you one that might not be the nearest. Google zooms out and lets me see the near Costcos with the one that is nearest at the top. Drive somewhere using Apple Maps for guidance, and stop following the route provided by Maps. Then be annoyed for minutes sometimes as it tells you to turn around to go back to the route it thought you were taking. Google almost instantly switches to an alternate route. Apple Maps UI undoubtedly beats Google Maps. And if the route Siri suggests is the route you want it is a fine product. But the application is dumb.
If the ads are not in my face, not targeted, and not done in a way that makes it harder to find what I am looking for then I am willing to see how it goes. But if the ads are any of those things, Maps/Siri's shortcomings will no longer be worth it.
Business 101 does not preclude Apple from not being different.Exactly, so now maybe some folks can stop pretending that Apple is somehow different than any other company.
The EU will get what it asks for. So good luck to the EU.They've been fined numerous times in Europe and the EU have introduced legislation to regulate them so not anymore![]()
No, what it shows is apple is under every right to keep its revenue stream, especially since the EU is attempting to place apples ip into the public domain and apple probably force apple to lose billions.Well it shows Apple doesn’t care about privacy or any of its core ideas. Just about making money. Same as google or Facebook. No principles.
And in this case you can’t walk away as 100% does the same. Showing the need for side loading and modification of software to protect user privacy
In certain ways, sure. When it comes to Apple doing whatever it wants to to make as much money as possible? Nope. Even if it means making the user experience worse, such as by putting ads all over the OS. They already put ads in the Music app and even in the Settings app. It appears Maps is next and I have no doubt it will continue to spread like a cancer through the rest of the OS. Because $$$ over all else.Business 101 does not preclude Apple from not being different.
I won't leave iOS, but I will stop using Maps for another directions app, such as Waze.No one will leave ios as every competitor will immediately do the same....

I saw that on an Android once. Some app was popping up an add, blocking the answer button whenever there was an incoming call. That google even allows this to happen ….!?!?Apple please, next update introduce ads that's interrupting phone calls, that would be amazing.
I searched for McDonald's on Google Maps and the first choice was an ad for Wendy's
Is that what everyone is worried about Apple doing too?
I mean, sure, I guess it's annoying. But honestly I found the result I was looking for and I moved on with my day.
We the customers are the losers in the bid of government to make iOS a public utility. Unfortunately ads in Apple Maps, imo, are a fallout of the governments that want to regulate apple to death. In certain ways, sure. Waze is much better of an app, but I started using Maps because of the ads and tracking.Waze is owned by Google. And Google is literally an advertising company.
So if you're bothered by ads... I don't think Waze is the correct move.
Maybe try some free and open source mapping app?

Search result ads in Maps will presumably work similarly to those currently seen in Apple's App Store.
The questions then become:
When will they also start to appear in Apple's other apps like Books, Podcasts, etc.?
How many people will care enough to actually stop using Apple devices or at least those apps?
With google maps in a Galaxy Z Fold? 🤣Solution: Get a fold-able Map heh
The EU will get what it asks for. So good luck to the EU.
Getting fined doesnt mean much. Many fortune companies have been investigated and fined for various things.

Sorry, but ads in the OS predate any new government regulations that are still yet in the implementation phase. Nice try though. This is simply stage 2 of this cancer. Who knows what stage 3 will bring. We the customers are the losers in the bid of government to make iOS a public utility. Unfortunately ads in Apple Maps, imo, are a fallout of the governments that want to regulate apple to death.
The implementation of the ads in Apple Maps we’re announced after the regulation of iOS in the EU. The cancer is the eu regulations now in stage 4. Thanks for an apt analogy.Sorry, but ads in the OS predate any new government regulations that are still yet in the implementation phase. Nice try though. This is simply stage 2 of this cancer. A court case finding apple guilty of well something having to do with antitrust, related to the App Store. What constitutes being found guilty then for you? Tim Cook jailed for life?[…]
