I bought myself into the apple ecosystem because we had no ads... Yes it's more expensive compared to Android or Windows, but we had a clean professional environment without ads or distractions.

So... if they add ads for premium users, what's premium anymore... Fu** apple!!

Yeah, and in stead Steve charged for the majority of Apple software.
$129 every Mac OS X update.
$19.95 for an iPod touch small 1.1.3 update, and $9.95 every year after.
$49-99 every year for iLife updates.
$149 every year for iWork updates.
$999 for Final Cut Pro.
$4.99 for iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand on the iPad... each.
$19.99 for Pages, Numbers and Keynote on the iPad... each.
$1.99 for FaceTime for Mac.
$99 a year for Mobile Me, including Find My iPhone.
Need I go on?
And these extra costs were *on top of* the $2000+ computers and the $400 iPod Touches and the $500+ iPads.
Almost all of those things are free now with free updates for life, the only thing that still costs is Final Cut and Logic and they're a good 1/3 of the cost they used to be.
Extra Services/Software that was rarely purchased or used, simply because they sucked(or still sucks) and there was/is much better or free alternatives. They charged for OSX, but I doubt that most Mac Users paid for it.

I think in 2032 we’ll all be seeing real life sized Apple Maps ads via AR glasses.

Then we’ll tap on the AR “Tripadvisor” app to instantly look at reviews and pictures of the place.

Exciting!
Good for Apple to be exploring this kind of business.

And back to Google Maps I go. I've been using Waze for directions, so this change will completely take Apple Maps off my Home Screen.
I hate to tell you this but Google Maps and Waze both have ads. And Waze ads are probably the worst ads in a map service.

The last version of Mac OS X released under Steve Jobs was actually $29.99.
The iPod touch and FaceTime fees were legal requirements at the time.
MobileMe was replaced by iCloud for free while Steve Jobs was still alive.
Lots of companies charged for software/services back then which are free now.

Anyway, I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make. Apple made all of those things free without serving ads in their apps.

“I’m speaking to you from Silicon Valley, where some of the most prominent and successful companies have built their businesses by lulling their customers into complacency about their personal information,” said Cook. “They’re gobbling up everything they can learn about you and trying to monetize it. We think that’s wrong. And it’s not the kind of company that Apple wants to be.”

-Tim Cook, 2015
That's just marketing. It has nothing to do with reality.

Yeah, but why pay a premium Apple tax if it does the same... they would destroy there own brand and loyal fanbase
How many people left the platform after the u-turn on privacy last year? It'll be the same in this case.

'paid search results' - I've never liked this. Not what I expected from the premium priced iPhone.
And remember this won't be enough, this is only the beginning.

There's a contingent of Apple fans who are doing the exact same thing you're doing: trying to justify behavior they've railed against for years. You should stop it. Apple is going to continue to increase their advertising efforts incrementally and methodically. They see the revenue and profit. They've always seen it. Now they just figured out a better way to attain it. Bit by bit. They are going to boil the frog slowly so it won't even realize it's being Cooked. ← see what I did there.

Point is Apple is going to increase their ad services. Stop making excuses for it. Just acknowledge that you are the product. It's okay to disagree with their decisions. No need to try to justify it.
I’m neither justifying or complaining. Simply observing. Makes no difference to me if Apple inserts ads.

Why Apple?
The money you earn from ads must be less then the money you’ll lose from folks leaving your platform because of the ads. You will also lose credibility as a non tracking, privacy first company and also lose repeat customers.

No ads please.
Where they gonna go? Google? Lmao

Lots of bad press towards Apple these days...
Not good, given how I like the company.
Bit worried about future :apple:'s development
