That would've warranted an event.

But we're closer than ever. iPadOS' new desktop class features and the M1 and M2 iPads easily capable of running Final Cut, all that's needed is a new storage paradigm for Final Cut. While some iPads have 1TB, most do not and these days that's not enough for 4K video. Guessing iPadOS 17 will introduce virtual storage that looks local but offloads to the cloud gradually when on WiFi and brings files to local storage when anticipated, making it all feel seamless. That would break down the final barrier to Final Cut Pro on iPad.

They need to add a SDXC slot first to m1, m2 iPads

The one thing that could entice me to upgrade from my M1 with 1 TB is if they moved the camera to landscape mode. Of course, I will probably upgrade anyways, and give my M1 to my wife, to replace her 9.7” Pro and 17” Dell.

Expectations of waking up tomorrow morning to find the Apple site sporting a screen saver saying, “We’ll be back soon.”
And then the realisation that the 11inch is just a chip change.

Had to give my daughter my 2018..will be straight on the pre order. Really disappointed it will still be LCD screen but I paid £250 for Magic Keyboard so have to stay with the 11

Also going to move away from grey

I'm still loving my 4th gen iPad Air. I now use it more than my MacBook Pro.

That was a banger of a device. Would have been perfect if it had a 120hz display. What MacBook Pro do you use it more than? An Intel one?

I was the same as you, but once I got a 14" MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon my iPad very quickly stopped being my main device.

if they move the camera to dead center I'd be really interested. I always accidentally cover the camera when holding it with 2 hands and have to move my hands and retake the selfie. And then sometimes miss the shot I had lined up.

They have not announced a chip replacement upgrade nor an iOS update for my iPad mini 2 in several years. Sad!
The iPad mini 2 stopped being supported after iOS/iPadOS 12. That thing is nearly a decade old, and it got software support for a fairly generous five years. And there will certainly never be a "chip replacement upgrade" for it... You're going to have to buy a new iPad for that...

im more interested in seeing this new design base iPad then an m2 refresh pro. A14/15 and 4gb of ram, laminated display? That will be a home run for their base model

Definitely updating my 12.9 iPad Pro M1 to the newest model. Gonna be awesome with tHE M2

With the M2 the new iPad needs to be powerful enough to handle the Apple calculator app? Will they introduce it?

I bought into the hype with the M1 (Not apple's fault, I bought into the marketing hook line and sinker). So now I have the M1 12.9 2tb Cell version, and I like it for being an ipad (An overkill for sure). But it taught me a valuable lesson in not jumping in head first base on what I "Thought" was coming. So I won't be upgrading, just holding onto my OVERKILL IPAD. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE THIS THING, but won't be upgrading until Apple makes iPadOS more inline with the power these iPad Pros have. I see no point, Literally my 12.9 iPad Pro and my iPad Mini can literally do almost the same things with all things considered.
Yeah, I did pretty much the same thing with the 2018 iPad Pro. As ever, there’d been numerous rumours of Logic and Final Cut coming to the iPad so I decided to buy my first iPad in anticipation. Here we are four years later. The Pro still runs like new but I‘ve long since given up on using an iPad as a professional tool. For that I use my iMac and the iPad is a consumption device for me. Each to their own of course but if I ever get another iPad, it’ll be just the regular ’iPad’.

people people…

there are millions of folks out there that have iPads that are 2-5+ years old. those are the people that will likely upgrade.

and if people with the M1 want to upgrade? oh well. some people want the latest and greatest. disposable income is still a thing. resale values for Apple stuff is still high…

it shouldn’t be difficult to understand lol.
I registered an account just to say you’re exactly right. I’ll be upgrading for the first time. I still have the original iPad Pro! Looking forward to experiencing the new model.

Apple really has no excuse to feature lock between processors now, considering macOS is so complex and powerful that the M1 chips can handle

Announcement tomorrow, pre-orders Friday, iPadOS lands a week later when the iPad Pro ships.
I would be shocked at this. Generally on press releases, it’s immediately available for preorder or purchase. But in post COVID days (or still COVID days depending on who you ask), anything is possible.

Like many have mentioned, I would be interested in upgrading for a landscape centered camera.

I have the 11" Pro 2018 which I bought near the release date. The battery life is great and it's still smooth for me. I have the Magic Keyboard and I use FaceTime and Zoom pretty frequently. I hate the camera placement. I guess Center Stage on the newer iPads would help but I'd love it if the camera was in landscape mode, considering my iPad sits that way 99% of the time.

Apple is a bit screwed either way right now with the budget iPad refresh...
– If the headphone jack is removed, education will be pretty annoyed – may even consider different brands in future
– If the headphone jack stays, audio lovers will ditch the under-utilised M1 of the Air/Pro and swap to the base iPad, reducing pro sales.
