I think it will be up to Meta to make that device as I don’t see any AVP ever being cheaper than the highest end iPhone. To get the same results as AVP, Meta is going to have to spend on higher cost components. Or, Meta could just abandon the headset market and focus on porting all their software to AVP. Meta doesn’t make money on hardware.
AVP certainly won't get much cheaper, a regular AV could be in the $1,500 range. Which is still expensive but far better than $3500.

I doubt Meta will drop out of AR/VR as it's a very broad market and room for multiple devices

The second-generation version of Apple's Vision Pro headset is at least 18 months away from launch, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports.

In the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman said that Apple is likely at least a year and a half away from the release of the second-generation Vision Pro headset, placing launch in late August 2025 at the earliest. Gurman noted that Apple is keenly interested in the reasons why customers who choose to return the first-generation Vision Pro headset do so, ultimately passing feedback from retail stores to the company's headquarters to help perfect the next version of the device.

The tidbit effectively rules out the idea of the Vision Pro receiving annual updates like the iPhone or Apple Watch, suggesting that it is likely to follow a longer refresh cycle that could even surpass that of the iPad.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and market research firm Omdia have previously mentioned a 2027 launch time frame for the second-generation Vision Pro headset. It is said that there could be no hardware updates for the Vision Pro until then, meaning that the Vision Pro might go up to 54 months without a refresh from the announcement of the first generation to the second. Meanwhile, Apple could launch a more affordable Vision headset around 2025, according to both The Information and Bloomberg.

It is good to hear Apple taking their time to produce the second generation. Taking time to gather all data to perfect the second version is a great decision. Appreciation to all pilot/public beta/test AVP version adopters, the keepers and the returners who have been testing and giving feedback to Apple to perfect the next generation AVP! Wish all the best! Keep calm and be happy with the incoming better AVP version😊 life is too short to be unhappy on anything!😊 Enjoy life to the fullest!😊

I highly disagree. And also, there was more than 1 SE so I fail to understand your point here
Products that Apple claims don't meet the sales threshold (like the last SE) get cancelled, except for the Products Apple wants to produce without the required margin. Meaning cancelling Products like the SE is inconsistent with Apple's stated philosophy. More Apple just throwing Products up against the wall to see what satisfies their current fancy.

Vision Pro 2 needs another 2-3 years under development. I don't see Apple fixing the issues within 18-months.
They’re not got going to “fix the issues within 18-months”, they’ve been working on this for a decade and some solutions and miniaturizations weren’t ready in time and needed another year.

The work is never finished, they’re constantly working on technologies for their devices and choose what’s ready and make a decision on the featureset of the next device at least a year in advance. The feature set and plans for the iPhone 16 being sold at the end of this year is already decided and ready to go and the iPhone 17 and probably the iPhone 18 are already deep into development.

Indeed. Apple needs to improve a lot of issues on AVP that MacRumor Dan Barbera mentioned on his honest review by pointing what he dislikes. If I were in the market for AVP and had bought it, I would have returned it for the issues Dan mentioned and would have waited for the next generation. Thanks, Dan for pointing improvement opportunities to all AVP future and current customers so they can make right purchasing decision! In the mean time, keep calm and be happy that Apple is working on perfecting the current pilot/public beta testing version and taking their time to perfect it! 😊 Life is too short to be unhappy on anything! 😊 be hopeful for the best improvement on the next generation AVP! 😊

The same results? Meta would need much better software and I’m not sure a fork of android will provide what Apple can do. Metas got a few games but wait til Google/samsung come along.

Sounds like 18 months needed to get it on holiday schedule like the rest. From there you have to assume annual updates as vision os will likely have annual ones. Or more like an iPad Pro update schedule.

The key thing about Gurman’s prediction is that it is mentioning the Apple Vision Pro 2 not any other version. While I don’t think there is a cheaper “non-Pro” version launching before 18 months, I think it’s a lot easier to say the second Pro version will be at least 18 months away.

Here is my short list of features that I want to see improved:
  1. Ergonomics: Weighs less, better strap options
  2. Display: Higher resolution, brighter, less image persistence, higher refresh rates
  3. Optics: Higher FOV, less glare, larger edge to edge clarity
  4. Cameras/Sensors: Higher resolution, better low light tracking, better eye tracking, >30hz hand tracking
  5. Software: Multiple screens for Mac Virtual display, more RAM so inactive apps don’t need to suspend
  6. Eyesight: Drop it completely or make it way way better, anything but one of these two scenarios is unacceptable for v2
  7. General performance upgrades (newer processors)
I think within 12 months Apple can probably improve the software and general performance, but those are low on the list of improvements that would really make for a significant upgrade. I would honestly be pretty disappointed if that’s all they manage to accomplish in the next version.

From a supply chain perspective, there are newer displays from Samsung that are coming which should be drop in upgrades for Apple, but it’s pretty obvious since we haven’t heard of mass production yet that this is easily a year away. I feel like that one plus few more components (cameras, optics) would make for a significant enough new version when combined with upgraded software and performance.

So with that in mind, I would be shocked if there was a proper upgraded model (in my opinion) before 2026.

I’m guessing Apple has seen massive returns, and will see a steady decline in purchases with overall flat numbers going into the next 12-18 months. They will need to make a market adjustment to a more affordable device if they want mass adaptation. Otherwise this will be a niche product adored by a small % of Apple faithful and ultimately abandoned if they keep the same strategy.
Niche like the air pod max. Nobody here can say they’re a hit.

You may randomly see one at the airport or gym (dumb btw) and you go “oh yah they still sell those”

Apple does not want the Vision Pros to be the next AirPod max. That would be failure.

I’m not sure what I think about the only the wealthy are buying this. I’d be more inclined to say many people aren’t buying this with cash. I would be willing to bet people purchased this device and it’s more than they can “afford”. I bet apple absolutely knows that people will purchase who aren’t “wealthy”. Lots of irresponsible spending this day of consumerism.

I didn't say that only the wealthy are buying it. I said the wealthy and true Apple enthusiasts are the ones that are buying it and keeping it. But again, Apple pays people a fortune to predict all of these things down to the penny. They don't just widely release a device and think "Gee, hope people buy this." They know what releasing a massively expensive device like this one is going to look like from both a returns standpoint as well as a true sales standpoint.

No silly/creepy screen on the front. Pointless cost adder and execution is poor.
The outward-facing display is likely the first feature to either get massively revised or scrapped entirely - it's gimmicky and has missed the intended mark. It could also be a good way to lower the cost of the headset without sacrificing quality.

Describe the feature set of a "regular VP" for $1500. A price cut of 58% means a LOT is going to have to go. So what goes to make that happen?

We all keep slinging this idea of a Vision NOTpro for $1500 but nobody seems to be describing how the price gets way down there. Describe the many cuts that will be necessary to do it and then let's see how interested we are in that Vision Cheaper product.

I love the idea of much cheaper Vision NOTpro too until the cut features list is laid out.

And while we're at it, I'd like a $350 new iPhone, a $150 new iPad and a $500 Macbook.

I think there's going to be a major strategy shift on this device before then
You think "quietly throw spaghetti at a wall and see what happens" isn't a winning strategy?

Gurman noted that Apple is keenly interested in the reasons why customers who choose to return the first-generation Vision Pro headset do so, ultimately passing feedback from retail stores to the company's headquarters to help perfect the next version of the device.

Jeez - so few customers are keeping them that it's easier to ask people why they kept it instead of asking the returns why they returned?

I wonder if Apple plans to release two versions of the Apple Vision - a Pro and a regular - or will keep just one version of it for a while.

Do you honestly think Apple doesn't know who the target audience for this device is? Apple isn't delusional enough to think that everyone is going to run out and buy a $4000 VR headset. They are well aware that as of right now this is a niche device.

I swear some of you guys think you are always the smartest guys in the room when it comes to this stuff. Apple isn't stupid and knows they know they are taking a chance on this device and that as of now it's a product that only the wealthy or true enthusiasts are going to buy. They also know and account for a number of people who are going to buy the VP just to try it and return it. They account for all of this and nothing really comes as a surprise. Some of you though act like Apple says "Hey, let's release a $4000 VR Headset and everyone will rush out and buy it like the latest iPhone." They don't think that all.
bro calm down. Is the internet, everyone thinks their smarter than a mega corporation lol

Think quest 3 running vision os. Adding the required tracking for eyes of course. Apple can still sell lcd screens. Only the pro gets oled 4k+.

so few customers are keeping them that it's easier to ask people why they kept it instead of asking the returns why they returned?

It says they are asking for return reasons in the line you quoted.

Apple customer support always asks the reason for return even if I returned a HomePod mini. This isn't some new concept.
