I hope macOS gets this treatment another time too. It's becoming just another Windows now.
I don't know. I installed Windows 11 on my 2018 Mac Mini the other month (needed Visual Studio 2022) and it flies. It's significantly faster than macOS (which was just clean installed when Ventura came out), everything Just Worked, it has pretties and shinies, window management is great out of the box, the new terminal application is pretty great...

I don't think comparing things to Windows is the insult it was in 1998.

How about proper syncing with the Mac?
It's really embarrassing that I can favourite pictures on the phone and when I import it to the photos app on the Mac (you know the one with the exact same icon and name as the iOS app) and none of the tagging, meta data (and some of the edits) gets synced.

My workaround is to just airdrop the "favourites" gallery to the Mac, and "manually" (thanks automator) mark them as "favourite" on the Mac app.

Everything syncs across all of my devices - edits, metadata, keywords, albums, literally everything. Syncs with three Macs, an iPhone and an iPad. Sounds really strange that yours doesn't work. Have you done any troubleshooting? This is like a tentpole feature of iCloud Photos.

I have completely given up on Apple releasing functioning software of any kind. I was in an Apple store 3 days ago to buy an iPhone with a gift card. It took over an hour and 4 people to check me out. In the end a manager ripped up the 2 cards and reduced the price by the amount on the cards. Interesting to see the software the company runs on is the same garbage they release to us just customers.

One has zero to do with the other.

It really seems like the Apple and the tech industry has hit a wall. We have devices that are more powerful than needed, and can do so many things that we don’t even have some must-have or highly desired capability that we can look forward to. Some of that may simply be we all don’t know what we’re missing until someone shows us, but like others have commented, there are plenty of iterative fixes Apple should address. One thing that annoys me on a daily basis is how I’ll check my phone for emails, reading them as they come in and I’ll get notifications of emails I’ve already read pop up. That’s sloppy that iOS can’t recognize that I’m in Mail and don’t need Mail notifications.
Probably combination of lack of vision, focus on revenue generation, and mishiring of more people only working for the next quarterly reports. Money can easily distract even the most laser focused companies. 😉

the current design is properly ugly, look at the safari icon for example. It was ugly then, and it is no less ugly now after ten years. I suppose in this sense one could say it is ‘timeless’, as it has always been and always will be ugly.
I think the current design that was first introduced in iOS 7 is timeless and iconic and they should keep it (with some small updates over time) for as long as possible.

Apple Music song lyrics on screen during Car Play, please!

No way is this any more of a distraction than some other apps out there…

If you say “where is the innovation” you aren't keeping attention about features, both the pro ones and the every day one like iCloud copy&paste, extract text from photos in real time…
I can’t really tell if you’re being sarcastic or not. Text recognition is a technology from the ‘90, calling it ‘innovation’ would be a wild statement. What’s next? Introducing CRT screens?

Gurman, why don't you specifically say the specific features. "Several 'Most Requested Features'" means nothing and offers no insight - so what are these features?

He's just throwing crap (not even that) on the wall and seeing what sticks.
Because he doesn’t know the specifics. I would prefer this report than made up stuff like some other people do.

I want Apple to treat iOS 17 as they did iOS 6. So many details. Hits differently! This is what perfection looked like from Apple. 🥲

Ew....no.

I still think iOS 6 was the height of iOS design. Even notifications were better back then. Remember being able to post to FB and Twitter right from there? Miss that.
Are you mad?

For the love of Jobs, please:
  • Slide to hang up call
  • Slide to dismiss alarm
  • Folder in App Library showing apps not in Home Screen
  • Nickname CarPlay vehicles
  • Nickname Automated Shortcuts
  • Nickname apps on Home Screen
  • Get Passwords out of Settings
  • Make some Notifications be able to survive a ‘Clear’
  • More than 9 apps on a Home Screen folder view
  • More than 9 pins in iMessage
  • Third-party app support in Control Center
  • Move Lock Screen customizations off the Lock Screen
  • Third-party app support in Lock Screen, as well as disabling shortcuts
  • Hide or categorize non-alerting iMessage conversations
  • Cache mailbox locally on iOS device
  • Revamp convoluted Camera UI
A lot of these aren’t feature requests, these are UI/UX deficiencies, plain and simple.
Most of these aren't things others want. For example - Notifications surviving a clear? No - that defeats the whole point of 'clear'.

Just make yourself a shortcut to passwords on the home screen using shortcuts. Sorted.

I'd WAY prefer Apple to be more forward thinking. For example, let's get dictation and voice notes blended. They shouldn't be separate and users at either end shouldn't be stuck with making the choice for one or the other.

Blend App Library and the folders on the home screen. These should never have been seperate features. They solved the folder issue than hid it all the way over as the app library and refused to let users organise the folders. Pathetic choice.

Let's also bomb siri and replace her with ChatGPT - it's already SO. MUCH. BETTER. Siri is a laughing stock, and any OS still using it within a year will be a laughing stock and very much behind.

Apple could be (and likely is) working on their own ChatGPT type thing. It doesn’t have to be Siri. Google after all is doing their own ChatGPT type thing and isn’t utilizing their current “hello google” assistant at least as of yet.
