It’s crazy though, M1 iPad is so powerful and literally nothing it can’t do, M2 will only be worth it if they open up the OS more …. Which iPad OS 16 Is not going to be the holy grail. At some point they will hit a bottleneck where they just sell faster is better.
Right? I mean what will the M2 iPad be able to do the M1 can't (because of the processor). The OS is so limited the hardware upgrades are pretty useless at this point.

So what are you all using an iPad Pro for? Curious.

Drawing in Procreate and CSP, a second screen for Safari/Email/Chat with Universal Control (which is amazing), watching movies, reading comics, surfing the web, planning my day with Things and Fantastical.

What do you use yours for? Do you also use a traditional computer?

I use it for general PC tasks and photo editing and illustration. I gave an example elsewhere in this thread of using it in Illustrator to vectorize a raster logo. Using the pen is much more enjoyable to me than a Wacom tablet on a desktop.

It's definitely not for everyone - most people are just fine with the iPad Air, if not the basic iPad.

In my day job I use desktop OSes all the time. But at home it's pretty much all iOS and iPadOS. I have an iMac at home but the only time I really use it these days is if I just want to. There's really nothing I do anymore that must be done on macOS, at least not at home.

im in the same boat about only needing iOS and iPad os at home but I definitely prefer to type on my MacBook and multi task, just simpler and smoother experience

Well that's disappointing. Was hoping for Apple to finally add or move the camera to the "correct" side to align with their keyboard and software. Clearly Apple's new features are landscape centric. Having the weird angle on Zoom and FT is old...

Yawn… the hardware is already excellent. Apple is making it incredibly difficult to motivate people to spend $1000+ on a tablet. Maybe we get a redesigned tablet with new Magic Keyboard with function keys. Otherwise, I can’t imagine how they will drum up excitement

I have the Magic Keyboard for my iPad Pro. It's expensive, and makes the iPad just as heavy or heavier than a MacBook, but it really made it replace macOS for me. For most folks a MacBook Air is the better way to go for sure.

Teaching in the classroom, mirrored off my Apple TV. So much lighter and thinner than the laptop my school issues me with, and longer battery life as well, and access to better software as well.

I don’t quite need an M2 chip for all this, and my 2018 iPad Pro is still going strong. Let’s see wish this next refresh brings.

Pretty much 🤷🏾‍♂️ or just a buy a Mac 💻?
Duh, Mac can’t play games.

I can bring M1 iPad Pro to its knee simply by running 3 games using stage manager. No pro apps required. While iPadOS is overall lacklustre, it is much easier to utilise M1 performance thanks to half-baked stage manager.

Gaming machine for iOS-specific games.
Also watching YouTube, checking forum like this one, and so on.
sometimes an external display.

The other day I had to vectorize a raster logo - used the Pencil in Illustrator on my iPad Pro…beautiful. Sure beats using my iMac and futzing around with keyboard shortcuts or my Wacom tablet…

I think for creative uses (photo editing, illustration, etc) - iPad Pro is killer. Expensive! But really most people don’t need the Pro. Honestly I don’t. But I could afford it and the extras you get with the Pro are certainly nice.
1TB storage and above is only available for iPad Pro. And yes, I might need 1TB or even 2TB local storage very soon, despite not doing any video editing work. Never thought about that when I got my M1 iPad Pro a year or so ago.

That was my original plan last year to do that but I found the trackpad not nearly as smooth, almost like it had a slight delay moving around the screen. Kept checking them out and testing them at the apple stores and Best Buy and couldn't get passed that weird delay.

I'm not saying there isn't a delay, but I don't notice a delay. There is inertia to the trackpad (the cursor keeps moving after you stop moving) that takes a little getting used to though.

Still no mini-LED on the smaller size is ridiculous. It would be like if the 14 Pro still didn’t have OLED and that were only given to the Pro Max. What gives?! I don’t want the larger iPad.
It’s quite possible it’s due to the reduced battery size of the 11-inch. I’d be surprised if the mini LED backlight didn’t draw more power, and they quote the same runtime figures for both 11 and 12.9-inch, so it would potentially be quite a significant reduction.

Apple has said it’s from production costs being too much if they did it. They would have to pass that onto the consumers. My thought if they did just that, it’s getting to close to the 12.9” pricing.
