iPados is still too limited to even allow the m2 to stretch its legs so far, why even bother with the m2 until they start doing an overhaul of the os?

Honestly I see these comments and it's like...what exactly are you wanting to do, besides have a worse Mac?

That always seems to be the goal - not a better iPad, a worse Mac for less.

There's plenty of heavier duty creative apps out there they could be pushing to bring over to the iPad. I could ask the same question back about what exactly are they trying to achieve by stuffing an m2 into one? What exactly is it going to do that the m1 can't? I would be surprised if there is even a speed difference as my m1 iPad opens everything instantly as is.

And who says the OS is the limitation and not the developers, or simply impractical requests?

Is there really a big market for FCPX on an iPad? Seems like there'd be a market for 10 minutes of "Hmm, this is neat, I'm going back to working on my Mac".

Well we will agree to disagree then. I feel its pointless to keep upgrading the chip if it can't take advantage of anything extra anyways. Update other parts of it, better battery life, better camera, better display, new features etc. The SOC was the last thing these needed updated. Apples gone this route for their watches and nobody complains because they perform great still and get to enjoy new features

Have fun

Yes! There will be growth in the spring! :)

Can I install macOS on an iPad 11" Pro M2 with 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD with a lightweight touch interface? Most of the time my iPad is connected to a smart keyboard and on my desk I even use a trackpad.

Sorry about your triple disc fusion in your neck - ouch! Hang in there!

I use Jump Desktop and have found it to be very smooth and fluid going between my different devices. It works very well on the iPad Pro. I updated from a 2018 12.9” iPad Pro to the 2021 12.9” iPad Pro and there’s not much of a difference, but I do look forward to using stage manager with an external display. The 2018 is still a very capable device. It will be interesting to see how the M2 will make a further difference, since the 2018 - 2021 models are already more than adequate for anything iPad OS and the current apps can do now. I’m thinking the M2 update from the M1 on the iPad Pro will be similar to the MacBook Pro 13” M2 update - same look and feel with a modest performance update.
I'll most likely be updating this round from my 2018 12.9. I had a triple disc fusion in my neck earlier this year and the iPad had become invaluable to my daily work life. Sitting in one spot for long amounts of time ends up hurting so I'm constantly moving between three or 4 locations in my house. Kitchen bar, dining room table, office, couch. I converted my work laptop to a VM that runs on my proxmox server so I can work from any location from any device with minimal effort. I usually keep my work laptop in the office and my personal laptop on the bar. The iPad allows for working in the other two locations with ease.

If this iterative refresh is truly what Apple plans to launch this fall, then the M1 iPad Pros are going to be some of the best value buys around. Get 'em while they're hot!

Curious to see if there’s a new Pencil (black?), Magic Keyboard (lighter) and landscape-edge camera in this release. Less concerned about M2 and mini-LED in the 11", which would both be overkill for the way I use my 2017 10.5”.

Ummmm Who CARES. For the 1st time in my life I’m tired && bored of Apple Products 🥲 where is Steve Jobs Timmy done messed your entire company up over $$ & greed

? I have the M1 iPad Pro and it’s amazing. Have you seen the screen? Sometimes I actually *prefer* watching movies on it compared to my 65” OLED C1 - it’s just that good. And it’s crazy fast.

Boring doesn’t mean bad. Are the new MacBooks boring? Apple is bringing its A-game here.

What exactly is it going to do that the m1 can't?

Nothing? It’s intended for people who want to buy a new iPad Pro, so that they have the latest, best chip Apple makes (that they also probably switched most of their production to anyway).

It’s good that they are doing these spec bumps. That doesn’t mean you need to upgrade from an M1 iPad Pro.

He did better than Steve Jobs did but still credits go to Steve Jobs for building Tim Cook to lead the company. So no other human being is closer to "be" Steve Jobs than Tim Cook. And Jobs chose the right guy, Tim Cook has raised Apple to new heights.

They will probably increase the price as well (apart from US) as they did with iPhones.
It depends on where you live. They didn't increase the iPhone prices in Canada or the US. (The CAD didn't drop much compared to the USD.)

Update the Mini please!
Mac mini you mean? ;) That's what I'm waiting for.

Apple will announce new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models in "a matter of days," respected Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman said today in his latest Power On newsletter.

The new 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, codenamed J617 and J620, will be the first update to the higher-end iPad since April 2021, where both models gained the M1 chip and a new 12.-9-inch mini-LED display. For their first update in a year and a half, the upcoming iPad Pro models are expected to gain the M2 Apple silicon chip, offering faster performance and possibly new charging capabilities.

For design, the new iPads will look like the current models, with no significant changes expected. Early rumors said that the smaller 11-inch model would gain a mini-LED display, currently only available on the larger 12.9-inch model, but that is no longer expected to happen.

The new iPad Pro models could also feature some form of MagSafe charging capabilities, as per previous reports. There is also the possibility the new iPad Pro models could feature reverse-wireless charging capabilities, allowing users to charge their iPhone or AirPods on the back of the iPad.

Given the incremental update expected for the upcoming iPads, Apple is no longer planning an event for October. Apple is expected to launch the new iPads and updates to the Mac lineup through press releases and updates on its website.

Alongside the new iPad Pro models, Apple is also expected to release iPadOS 16 later this month. Unlike in past years, this year's iPadOS and iOS updates were not released simultaneously. Instead, Apple delayed iPadOS 16 until later in the fall to allow it more time to refine the update and work on Stage Manager. Stage Manager is a new multi-tasking and windowing system for specific iPad models that continues to face bugs, despite iPadOS 16's release in just a few weeks.

Considering they are still guessing what the features will be this close to launch, you know this will be a nothing burger with nothing new besides the chip. Such a boring year for apple
