Bought a 2021 iPad Pro today from Amazon for $200 off. If the new iPads are just a processor swap and wireless charging, I’ll pass on the new one.
Now that Macs finally got the iPad Pro's Apple Silicon, not much. I love my 14" M1 MacBook Pro. Never thought I would own a Mac, much less prefer it over an iPad Pro. Apple Silicon gave the Mac a reason to exist. So what are you all using an iPad Pro for? Curious.
Tbf, stage manager finally allows me to efficiently multitask while playing certain games. And running multiple games can easily chew up all the hardware power available. It’s incredible. So much horsepower, but no room
to gallop. Stage Manager? What. A. Joke!
I just hope my iPad Pro 2018 11” can hold out until Apple decides to put a modern display in this product.
Im not waiting. Going to replace my 2018 12.9“ as soon as it comes out. My 2017 10.5 battery is toast, maybe get 3 hours, and the 12.9 gets maybe 4.5 hours. If the batteries were easily replaceable I might consider keeping them but they’re not so I’m going to be first in line for the new iPad Pro 12.9“. I’ve gotten spoiled with the bigger screen and can’t go back to the 10.5 (or 11) iPads. Also love the idea of mini-led display. Sign me up!
could be that I was feeling, been awhile since I tried it but just didn't feel very natural.I'm not saying there isn't a delay, but I don't notice a delay. There is inertia to the trackpad (the cursor keeps moving after you stop moving) that takes a little getting used to though.
Lame reason to upgrade and grasping at straws to do it. 2018 iPad Pro is still very relevant NOW. You won’t notice much of a difference and most likely return it.Will be upgrading to this since I’m on an 11” A12X from 2018.
A12X is still extremely impressive, but I’m sure the M2 will be that much better. I’ll take this opportunity to also get the bigger size/mini LED.
I don’t expect the iPad mini to get the M-series SoC but at the very least I’d love to see it get ProMotion & FaceID.I like to see a M2 iPad mini pro (promotion display) come out and shock people, especially if it ran stage manager with an external display.
Not really, as there is no chip and pin support without an outside device of course. We need NFC on iPads. Being able to use it solely by itself as a POS system would be huge for businesses.
Makes me really think that we're approaching peak tech...where the hardware so far surpasses the use cases, that upgrades are pointless.
Nonsense. Apple's products have constantly (with some bumps in the road) improved since the 128k Mac. The current batch like M1 MBPs, M1 Mac Studios, M2 MBA, iPhone Pro, Airpods Pro2, etc. absolutely rock. Great products with - unlike other vendors - an emphasis on improving privacy/security.Ummmm Who CARES. For the 1st time in my life I’m tired && bored of Apple Products 🥲 where is Steve Jobs Timmy done messed your entire company up over $$ & greed
The error folks make is thinking short term. It is seldom about updating to the latest and greatest from last year's tech, but rather from older tech. In that case the point is that researching and buying into the latest and greatest makes total sense. Buy the latest and greatest today so that one gets a solid top-of-the-line tool to productively use for years.Good point. It’s similar to TV technology where we have 4K and now 8K TVs out. What’s the damn point? Most all broadcast content, especially sporting events, is still in 1080p or even 720p. Just another case where HW updates are mostly pointless and updating to the latest and greatest doesn’t seem like the wise thing to do financially.
Out of curiosity what about FaceID bothers you? Also this is my first device with FaceID. I've avoided it forever until now. My phone is the 3rd gen iPhone SE for exactly that reason. So that may also factor into my decision.
Xcode, Logic, FCP for iPadOS.
RemindMe! 10 years
OLED for iPad lineup in 2024 (per Display Analyst Ross Young)I'd love to see them bring mini-LED or OLED to the 11". I was toying with the idea of just getting the 12.9", but I already have a MacBook Pro 14", so I think the best play is to have the 14" for when I need the nice big screen, and the 11" for some portability, and the magic keyboard for when I really need to travel light.
Ideally they would shrink the bezels, increase the 11" screen to 11.5" or 12" while still fitting the current magic keyboard, move the camera so it's up the top middle in landscape mode, and get mini-LED or OLED in there. And the M2 I guess.
