It’s actually glass. From Apple’s product page: “A singular piece of three-dimensionally formed laminated glass acts as an optical surface for the cameras and sensors that view the world.”

Of course, if the crack goes all through, it isn’t a singular piece anymore. Apple should be sued for false advertising. ;)
Apple is lying. Several YouTubers tested in person and it turns out both front glass and lenses are plastics.

It's an undocumented feature
Two weeks! Two weeks!

Who knew he had crack timing down so well! (J/k)

This is just one more issue which convinces me to wait until at least the third generation before I even think about buying this product.

We were unable to find additional similar reports on social media, on Apple's online Support Community, or in the MacRumors forums, suggesting that this is quite possibly a manufacturing defect limited to a small batch of units, rather than a widespread problem.

An Apple spokesperson just acknowledged the issue.

"We are aware that a small number of users are having issues with their third-generation butterfly keyboard Vision Pro and for that we are sorry. The vast majority of Mac notebook Vision Pro customers are having a positive experience with the new keyboard and revolutionary spatial computer."

That's a feature, not an issue. There's also hidden hinges in the middle in order to make it foldable.

Four years from now this tech is going to be amazing. Wish I had the money to experience it now, but 3.5k is worth more than my car, and unlike a Mac the Vision Pro doesn't actually do anything to help you earn money, not yet anyway.
A Vision Pro would help you earn money if you were an influencer with a YouTube channel. You'd earn money by posting videos of: a review, disassembly, drop test, etc.

You could have been iJustine iSoldOnApple 🤣

This thing does output a lot of heat while in use. I worry about putting the front glass cover on it cus it covers the vents when I put it away. Every time I pick it up it feels warm

At least in the Northern Hemisphere, outside temps. are still within the cooler side of this device's operating range. If heat is the issue, this problem will only get worse with more people using this outside & hotter days ahead.

Couldn't some of the hardware (weight and heat) have been put alongside the battery pack (and not on your face)?

This product could have been so much lighter (until the technology allowed for it to be put back on the bridge of your nose).

It has to be proven defective, and the user did not drop the unit. If it proven to be a defect Apple to pay to replace or repair it.
How can a user prove this? Under Euro law the obligation would be with the manufacturer for the first year of the mandatory 2 years of warranty to prove that the defect or cause for it was not present at the time of purchase…
Much harder to screw consumers over here

Looking forward to seeing whether the non-Pro version eschews the glass/plastic/laminate/whatever it is, and goes with just a plastic front.

I honestly do not understand the hatred this product is causing in the public. If you think this is bad check out the Meta threads on Reddit. It’s almost like some kind of psychosis.

What I don’t understand is why it triggers people. Yes, it is a very expensive product, yes it is not incredibly useful. But it is an experiment and it’s a first generation. I think anybody who buys it knows this. If you ignore the people who are just trying to show off the rest of us are trying to learn and understand a new paradigm , it’s not for everyone. So why do these people care so much?

The choice is up to you 'cause they come in two classes:
Rhinestone shades or cheap sunglasses.
