Guess what? YouTubers who actually tear down and test Vision Pro found out it's a plastic part on front. Clearly, dont trust Apple all the time.
Clearly we watched a different video, because after scratching the laminated layer of plastic in front, he was able to crack it underneath, which proves there is indeed glass under the layer of plastic. It’s pretty obvious this is why Apple calls it laminated.

This thing does output a lot of heat while in use. I worry about putting the front glass cover on it cus it covers the vents when I put it away. Every time I pick it up it feels warm
I only put that cover on when it’s powered down or unplugged.

You wouldn’t put a potato in your car exhaust and expect it to run, or block you A/C return in your house. Same thing. Vents should be open if there is power. I’m guessing that wasn’t the case here. And yes heat can do crazy stuff like that.

Like they did with the iPhone 4 and also the subsequent gen MBP that still had the Flexgate issue they decided to ignore.

The iPhone 4 had a reproducible issue for everyone. The fix they came up with was a bumper for the sides and these were freely available. Problem solved. Maybe not to your standards, but they did something. The battery issue, they offered low cost replacements. The keyboard issue, they replaced if you had a problem free of charge. As for flexgate, just because you name something doesnt necessarily make it a widespread problem. Its too early to tell just what this is, but yeah, if its a widespread issue apple will correct it, for fear of being sued if for no other reason.

I said the front is plastic. While Apple is claiming it's a glass, clearly it's not.

Sincere curiosity, what are you doing that causes it to heat up so much? how warm is your environment? I ask because the only time I notice it getting warm is playing a game, civilization, and it's pulling so much power charging is actually a losing battle over 5 hours (cough). Even then I am not aware of the sound of fans or my face getting hot, just the metal rim is warm to the touch. I dont think I keep my house that cold but perhaps. but yeah, I dont put on the cover until some time after taking it off just to be safe. blocking the vent didnt make sense to me.

Not to worry, everybody, because I've just received the word from Apple Support. First, this is not an issue, because if it was an issue, Apple Support would know about it before it affected even one customer, because Apple Support talks with millions of Vision Pro customers every hour. Additionally, Apple would have a support article posted. So, because this is a potential issue, customers will need to try some troubleshooting steps. First, they should ensure they only clean the front glass with the included cloth. If the issue persists, customers will need to try to restart the device. If, after a restart, the issue persists, you'll need to do a full erase and reinstall. The AVP will need to be set-up as new. Because spatial computing is brand new, there is limited support available. So, if the issue is still present, a Senior Advisor will need to do an RTA to Engineering. You'll need to collect logs, with Mail logging enabled, of course, and submit them. After 48 hours, Engineering will reply that this is a known issue and to keep your device up to date. However, if you have AppleCare+, you could use one of your included replacements. But, this is a one-time exception.

I said the front is plastic. While Apple is claiming it's a glass, clearly it's not.

Then you did not read what Apple claims, because they clearly state it has a laminated glass front. You seem to have an issue with understanding what laminated means.

Front.

A singular piece of three-dimensionally formed laminated glass flows into an aluminum alloy frame that curves to wrap around your face.

lam·i·nate

/ˈlaməˌnāt/
  1. overlay (a flat surface, especially paper) with a layer of plastic or some other protective material.

I’m not buying that glass cracked on it’s own. They have clearly damaged it with some force applied to the side of the device. any screen on tech cracks in a hairline manner if there’s force applied to the weakest part of the glass - the side

The current iteration of AVP is a development version. Apple will learn a lot from all the problems, bugs and defects. I fully expected even such issues. People who bought the first version of AVP shouldn't be surprised.
Whether we have a positive or negative opinion of this product, I just don’t think making excuses for an expensive piece of hardware released by a $multi-trillion corporation is the way to go. Nothing in Apple’s marketing suggests this is a “development” version and we should therefore expect physical issues with it. If you buy an expensive device and it breaks unexpectedly and without any obvious reason in a couple of weeks, “surprise” will be the first and least negative emotion you will experience. Why lower the bar for Apple by saying something like this should be expected?

We still don’t actually know if this is a design or manufacturing issue, but if the reports about the crack being in the same location are true, user error looks less likely.

Don't google, is your car windshield glass or plastic?

if you said glass, guess what, it has an optically clear layer of plastic as well. You are splitting a hair here that doesn't matter. It's a glass laminate with a plastic layer.
Glass doesn't really mean it's glass. Plastic can be glass as well especially since glasses that we are wearing are mostly are plastic. Btw, AVP's lenses are plastic as well.

My house is never higher than 65°. It’s 60° at night. All I do with my Vision Pro as watched 3-D IMAX movies on it. It always has warm air blowing out of the top of it while I do this. Sometimes I can even feel the fans across my face somehow
