i see why they have wake sleep on right side...mostly for those who hold it with left hand...to click it like a trigger....what about those with RIGHT HAND???

Yea, seriously compromised the sales of iPad mini with a more expensive and probably higher margin device....what is Apple thinking???? (Remember actual price is $450 higher than the subsidized prices advertised) But they may have reduced the number of people who will buy both....or it will just force iPad mini buyers to go back to full sized iPad....man, Apple is just so stupid!

"Apple is just so stupid!"? or you? iPhone profit margin is 2.5-3x more than iPad mini. Do the elementary math, kiddo.

Biggest waste of real estate - columns and rows of static icons. Pathetic!

That's the problem with apple - you waste 5.5" of space to look just like a 3.5" iPhone screen. Same lame static icons, just 6 rows of icons more.

iOS 8 changes nothing.

I'm not sure how you use your devices but I generally use application launchers to launch applications. I don't sit there and stare at them all day. To each their own I guess.

Do you also just sit and stare at the finder? or Explorer on Windows? How do you get anything done?

1) Lol, until apple says it's "ready"
2) no it cannot
3) it's more than useful; you don't have experience with it.
4) what a joke, you don't know what an S5 camera can do
5) Superior video, that's what
6) S5 uses full 16MP to capture video; you can then zoom in and there is NO loss in resolution
7) lol, it works 99% of the time. Try taking selfie without voice activated shutter; but iPhone doesn't have it so it's not useful

So you are just jumping up and down shouting how Android phones are better then Iphones because some of them may have more specifications in which case you obviously know next to nothing about tech.

I have uses top spec Android phones and they were a let down. Poorly designed and poorly executed. Specs for specs sake. If you were as intelligent as I am and if you had the experience I do in the field of technology then you would know you were talking ******
it's not the ingredients that matter but what you do with them.
If you don't like it then go to Android forums and have your hissy fit somewhere else.

So in the end, Apple steals the HTC One M8 design and makes it uglier?

Image

First time I think having an android/windows phone that is better looking then the iPhone..

The black color scheme is what makes it uglier. It looks like a big iPhone 3G.

The most boring, ugly and technically poor iPhone update ever.
Apple's engineering, designing and idea-generating impotency is pretty obvious right now.

It's obvious all the r&d went to the watch.

And that is the problem right there. It's a phone, used to call people. All these bells and whistles aren't bringing us together, they're making our lives more complicated and if you are buying a mobile phone of which you hardly use the "phone" part, maybe people should rethink it.

*Yes I understand those who are hearing impaired would benefit from a larger device, but this is in relation to the general public and the social trend in relying upon technology too much

Phone calls become the thing of the past. Modern communications especially on smart phone are mostly for other tasks. Phone calls only takes 10% of all usages nowadays. Technology evolves, same as human life. Things change, my friend.

----------

designwise:

iPhone 5s: 6/10
iPhone 6: 8/10
Apple Watch: 4/10
Mac Pro: 10/10
MacBook Pro: 9/10

I wanted the Watch to be round and black like the Mac Pro.
My favorite iPhone was the original 2007. Very utilitarian and minimal.

first iPhone = 10/10

Did you put all your files on your computer desktop or only those you need quick access to?

I rethought it, and I think a FaceTime call is more personal than holding a chunk of metal and glass up to my ear. The bigger screen is part of the solution.

If you really don't like technology as much as you appear to, it won't matter to you what size the device is. The phone is your enemy, not just the big phone.

Man, HTC does not get a lot of credit but you're right. The M8 looks better than what I saw today. Plus you got 2 speakers on the front.

When is the last time you listen to music with phone speakers? It still sounds worse than $20 pair of speakers at Walmart.

Apple did not specified the RAM and battery? Why
I'm really disappointed in iphone 6
Im going with Samsung Note 4 at this time.
Apple Sucks!!!

I like them iPhones. I reckon I'll have me one of the big'uns. Mmhmm.

Is that an iPhone 6+ in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

5.5 inches baby!

IVE is gonna get FIRED.

Before the iphone 6 and 6+ sells more phones then ever before in apples history or After?

You got the funnies.

This all day^^ folks around here say junk just to be saying it, *sigh* I keep forgetting about all the garbage threads and comments that take place after every keynote each year on this site.
I think I'll go hang out in the ipod/imac/mac book threads for a while until the dumb cools down.

Right... Technically poor, it kills all other phones in single core performance and graphic performance... Has a stellar thougher than others screen, a touch biometric sensor miles ahead of anyone else, etc. A top of the line battery performance. They also got the brightest and best performing screen. Not to mention a top of line camera.

But, hey, that's poor in your book.

and integrated Apple Pay to kill them all...Google Wallet? What?

Not really. OIS on a phone is not going to be a huge deal for most people. And it's like 1 of the two selling points to get the Plus besides the screen size. Not worth the hugeness and extra $100

yeah? Screen size, longer battery life, better camera, better screen resolution and I believe more RAM too...It's enough $100 upgrade if one doesn't mind the size.

So basically iPhone 6 and 6+ are true manifestation of Ive's obsession to turn current iPod Touch into an iPhone! Look at the similarities except for antenna band on the back and power button, it's the iPod Touch!!

Even the protruding rear lens is design is copied .. TBH here, not so impressed

Damn it the rumours were right. Ugly large lines on the back. Ugly protruding camera lens. If I buy one I'll have to stick it in a bloody leather case like I've done with my 5s. I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to do that as it adds weight and thickness. Thank heavens they've added a few nicer colours.

I cannot imagine using an iPhone without a case. One drop and there goes over a $500 investment. That's why most of us don't know anyone who uses an iPhone without a case.

The protruding camera lens bothered me at first, but in a quality case the lens should be flush with the case exterior, which is actually quite cool. The lines on the back are functional, they provide superior Wi-Fi and LTE speeds.

If you don't care about function and buy a phone to show off, then I suggest getting a humongous Android Phablet. I saw an aluminum phablet the other day that I swear was nearly as big as my Nexus 7 tablet. The guy using it got lots of looks, though I suspect most were of the "what a tool!" variety.

Seriously, there are a ton more options in nearly all the high end android lineup of smartphones. You'd expect apple to have more than 8MP offering and OIS limited in the 5.5" model only.

There's absolutely nothing that I am impressed with especially in the camera department in today's announcement. Not even impressed with the watch since it looks awful in person (hands on video) - the square screen has thicker than imagined bezels too and overall just doesn't look good. Sure the promo ads look awesome but in person hands on video shows that it is really ugly.

I expected QHD screen, SIRI that can control your device options, NFC that supports NFC TAGs and apps that can use those TAG commands, more than 8MP camera, HDR VIDEO MODE, 1080p with full sensor zoom (16MP S5 can zoom in using FULL SENSOR MP in video!), voice controls for shutter, I mean the list goes on but I guess most high end android smartphones already do all this but it's an iPhone so whatever last year tech they sport, it's the holy grail

QHD? You have super Hawk eye? If you love gimmicks too much, go to Scamsung. Apple won't make useless hardware for marketing craps.

If you want to compare, do that with the same class of device which is Note 3/4. S5 should be compared with iPhone 6, not 6+.

I don't like asymmetrical screen position of HTC 8 and its thickness.

I agree it's not fair so let's compare it to the LG G3 which is a 100% fair comparison since both have 5.5" displays.

I like the fact the 4.7 doesn't feel bigger than the 4" ones, another reason Apple didn't opt for a new 4" to go with larger ones.

The only thing I'm not to psyched about is the lock button on the side, and maybe the protruding camera. Other than that, it looks good!

Given most will get some case the camera won't be pretuding for very long. The OutterBox case on my 5s makes the iPhone about twice as thick and an bit wider than if it was naked. I really don't like how thin some phones have come, feels like I'm going to break it every time I put it down.

Had the case since I got the 5s (the day it was released) and it's only came off to clean it, that's about 3 times in 12 months.

The Touch ID is shipping with 5s for year now, so that's not an upgrade.
Single core performance has to be best in class since Apple's chips have just two cores!
As for display and camera, it seems you're way too sensitive for what Apple PR guys tell to you. None of us have seen those in real life. But from characteristics POV there's absolutely nothing stellar about them.

Sorry bro but Apples route of sticking with stronger single core performance is so much better then Androids method of throwing more cores at it. Majority of Android apps dont use more then 2 cores and multithreading and multi core utiliZation on Android is still quite poor.

Ill take a Apple A8 that is faster then the Nvidias tegra K1! (Fastest Android SoC out right now that you cant really even get your hands on lmao

that thing is itself a clear copy of the iPhone 5s, so....apple is copying from apple.
