+1

I agree, I can't believe how many people seem to be so hung up on how the new iPhone looks.

+1. I also can't believe how many of Apple's competitors think that a sleek hardware device is all they need.
Nope. It's a matter of hardware + os + apps + ecosystem. Plus that intangible: "The Experience."

Vastly harder to copy than just a nice enclosure and black bezel.

This statistic would be cool:

I wonder how many of you who actually complain about the back design had an uggly case around your current iPhone? If design really matters that much, how come that the case manufacturers sell thousands of cases a week?

By the way, if this is liquidmetal/vitreloy, it will look awesome. Amorphous metals can look like glass when pollished and matte where sandblasted. But the best feature is that it is more scratch resistent than one could imagine. That would clearly get me thinking about having an Apple bumper around it. On a second thought, the bumper keeps it from sliding and makes it rather quiet on vibrate.

Someone mentioned it in some previous comments. A wider phone would be better for surfing the internet. That is obvious. So why not make it wider as well as taller. All the benefit of a taller phone and it would be a better internet browser as well.

The using one hand argument is a bit weak. if it was a little wider you could still use one hand to operate the phone.

If it's wider it won't fit in the watch pocket of your jeans.

Ever since the first nano, all iPods and iPhones fit in your traditional sized watch pocket of a pair of blue jeans.

Only when sales slump significantly will they make a wider screen.

Looks like an iPhone with a larger screen and due to the fact almost every manufacturer has had screens of similar size for years now it's not that impressive.

I'm more interested in iOS 6 and the trickle down effect it will have on older devices.

What if...???

People are so quick in saying..." I won't buy it..." "it's butt ugly...".

You haven't seen the phone nor know it's functionality. Why would you pass judgement so quickly??

What if...

1. It's have magnetic rechargeable back so you don't need to dock at all.
2. It's quad core and 2ghz
3. The map app is unbelievable.
4. Comes in choices of 4in and 4 1/2 inch screen sizes.
5. Facial recognition system with it's camera app to tell you who you are meeting.
6. If you put the new iPhone back to back to the Android phone, it will immediately sends a signal to render Android OS useless :D

:)

ehhh... looks fine because it looks like th iphone 4 and 4S but i am not wowed at all by this design.. wanted something totally new..

I'm fine with the new looks of the potential new iPhone, however....

i will laugh if this is it, only because of the "double down on security" comment by Tim Cook. I'm sure it's next to impossible to keep a lid on things, especially these days, but you've got to know it's eventually going to get out.

Part of me think this is all a ploy, and that there is another phone in the works....but pretty certain this is the one.

Remember the wedge shaped iPhone mockups and renders and cases?

The retina MBP was just released and it retained Apple's minimalistic design philosophy, even more-so with the removal of the logo on the screen.

Why would it have a different design strategy for the iPhone?

People are generating incoming by simply showing fake products through clicks.

The first generation iPhone is still the best. The 3G version is second best. Only until the antenna bumper with the gaps did Apple start to lose its style as a cohesive product family because no other device was encased in glass.

Bring back the aluminum iPhone but make it thinner and lose the shiny rim. Less is more.

Coming from the IPhone 4, I like the design. If it has 4G, 1Gb Ram, faster processor, then I am definitely aboard.

Although I think somewhere about 4.3" (maybe 4.5") is the sweet spot for me, 4" will do nicely.

Looking forward to release.

Why I don't think this is the new iphone...

Camera Hole is not concentric with the radius of the corner.

Camera, Mic hole, flash are not centered in the middle of the top "band" far too close to the center matte panel.

I think it looks awesome, I've always loved the gunmetal color. If it doesn't keep that color and goes to the bead blasted aluminum look, I'm ok with that too.

U also think this will either be iPhone 6 to coincide with the launch of iOS 6, or they are going to go the route of "The New iPad" and just call it "The New iPhone".

Haha…to all that think that this is real

Tim Cook has doubled down on security, remember? False info is the way to go!

Seriously, I hope this isn't it. I hope Apple surprises us all. :D

Beautiful phone.

As an iPhone 4 owner, this is a nice step up for many reasons. I like the beveled metal edges, the (hopefully!) rear facing mic for video recording. The longer rather than wider screen is much appreciated as those big phones are just so awkward for a phone. I have an iPad, I don't need a fat phone.

The other plus is that with no major sweeping change in shape and structure it should be a nice refined release rather than a potentially problematic device.

Seems like the real deal and I hope it is. :)

Is this really the iphone 5?

As I said before, if this is rumor turns out to be false, then Tim is a double-winner. Tim proves his visionary genius w/ a groundbreaking new iPhone and he proves his honesty by keeping his word about doubling down on security.

HOWEVER, if this is the real iPhone, then Tim is a HUGE, HUGE loser. We get a crappy iPhone with one of the worst leaks in Apple history. He'll go down as a joke. Nobody will believe a word he says, and deservedly so.

I also hope this isn't it, for Tim's sake especially.

Except the pictured phone looks amazing, so where does the double loss come from? Also, part of security is making an example of those who leak something who agreed not to. A few heads may yet roll. Also, this phone is exactly what I want. :D

Pretty sure this design has been leaked/rumored for longer and this is simply a mock up of what it was rumored to be. Also, his design has changed since new info came up, like the centered front camera, etc.

Yes you're maybe right about that.

But i don't know. Cook explicitly said that they are tightening their security, no leaks and all that, and then boom: for over more than a half year we've had numerous leaks, parts, renders, plotting schemes, internal cables, full size phones, ... It's never been this bad for an iPhone. And all of the same single design. You can't honestly believe this isn't intentional.

Unless that's what they WANT you to think...

Cue maniacal laughter.

I think the following posts from the first page of the first iPhone 4 leaked photos on macrumors are interesting:

LOL I remember reading these. I also remember reading that someone said that it was a total fake, and Apple wouldn't announce it the next day at their press conference.

Obviously, they did.

I loved the iPhone 4 design when I first saw it leaked, so I won't be judging until I can see the new one in person. But so far it's looking pretty good, not sure about that length in screen real estate though.

Obviously you love this iphone so you're going to disagree with me - it's impossible to argue with you then.

But all you have to do is look at all the complaints here and see I'm not alone.

Where do you hear/read that?

I agree my comment comes off as arrogant but it wasn't meant to be. It's just the fact that people here are blatantly ignoring facts because they don't like what they see (ex. "It must be fake!"). It's reminiscent of younger children justifying something by irrational logic (ex. Santa Claus didn't bring my iPod this year because it probably fell off his sleigh). :p

Sorry, I don't see the connection. Just because one says it's fake doesn't mean they are always denying the "facts." By the way, there is nothing factual about a rumor.

Regarding apple putting old or fake prototypes was mentioned several times from various sources, such as mac articles and former/inside employees, when Cook mentioned he was doubling down on security during an interview; This was one of the measures he took and it surely seems to be working.

let's be honest here... anyone who says that if this is the final design they aren't buying it is full of it. You say it now because you're slightly disappointed that the design hasn't changed much...what would make you happy, a carbon fiber iPhone? A polished curved back like the iPod touch? Tell me, what would you want to see that would make you happy?

Maybe it would make 50% of customers happy, and maybe the other 50% wouldn't like it.. who knows. Either way, when it comes out, you'll be one of the first to pre-order it...so let's just stop with the B.S.

Some people blame Tim Cook, saying if Steve was still in charge the phone would be dramatically different... that's B.S. too. Jony Ive was in charge of designs then, and he is in charge now. Ultimately it's what he wants.

It's pointless saying why this is a great design or lame one, since we do not even know if this IS what it will look like. If this is it, i'm sure the design has a purpose and is the reason for a minimal change.

Look how many pages of comments were generate from a little leak with some rumors about release dates... let's wait until fall to see what the new iPhone will and will not be.
