Re: will only open purchased songs in the store; will not open matched or where copyright changed. This ”bug” was introduced with MusicApp (music match) and TVApp (home sharing) in macOS; was working with iTunes. iTunes would do something like a search for matched songs, as it has the exact artist and album name. Have to manually enter album name and search now.

Probably should note - if you're using FSD beta software, you don't have/get this update with Apple Music, yet. The FSD folks are on a different branch.

I'm in this situation and the wait is rather painful :) Maybe next week?
It's rolling out for people in FSD, too. Version 2022.44.25.5 is the holiday update for people in the FSD beta.

Looks like around 4% of people in the beta have received it so far. They'll probably expand it to ~20% tomorrow, ~50% Thursday, and to everyone by Friday. That's about the pace they normally release updates, so long as they don't discover any issues that make them pull it before it reaches everyone.

As for people complaining that this version isn't perfect, it's NBD. Tesla will continue to release updates at a pretty quick pace. You'll deem it perfect in a few months and then they'll keep improving it in ways you didn't know you wanted.

I tried it today. I was hoping it would eliminate the need to pay for Spotify for me, but, like Tidal, it doesn't support gapless playback. While most these days rely on playlists, I listen to a lot of albums that have smooth transitions between songs. Having that pause is frustrating and jarring no matter how entitled those particular very important, always correct people here will tell me I am for complaining in any way about this "free" upgrade.

I will say, though, that I like the overall UI more than any other service. Spotify was Ted so much space throwing up irrelevant crap and made it so hard to find anything that was actually in your library besides only a few of the surface level results. Apple Music is showing much, much more useful content overall.

And since I don't often rely on playlists, the 100-song limit isn't a direct bother for me, but I do still think it's dumb. Gapless, though, is a huge issue.

Obviously premium connectivity is needed for cellular. If you want to stream for “free” you can connect your car to your phones hotspot.

Tesla charges less for data than most cell carriers fyi.
Well… in my CarPlay enabled car I usually just play downloaded music. So I think it’s reasonable to think about giving people the ability to download parts of their library so they can listen to it while driving (streaming only works if there is cellular service which isn’t available everywhere).

I’ve had my MS for 4 years now and it has been the best car I’ve had. Referred my brother to a 2021 MS and he equally enjoys it. I’m also with you when it comes to Elon and his antics. I could give 2Fs what he says or does. I love the car and the tech. I doubt everyone questions what the ceo says or does for anything they buy, why would this be any different.

Anyway I’ve tried CarPlay in my wife’s 2014 Q7 (by way of a Carlinkit) and the Tesla integration is far superior. Having a much larger screen really makes a difference. I do find the navigation to be a little sluggish for me but hopefully that will improve as the Spotify UI is much snappier.

They mentioned online, the annual holiday software update is available for all users, but there is a small catch:
Note: A Premium Connectivity subscription is required to stream Apple Music over a cellular connection. You see that if you click on the Apple Music portion of this twitter post. (upper left)

It’s the same for any streaming service on the car. No one thinks they are streaming on teslas cell for free.

I've had this in my Model S for almost a week.

TL;DR I was very excited but less so after living with it. I don't hate it, nor do I love it.

I don't know if there are actual "bugs" per se, but the UI/UX is a little clunky. It's software so it can (will?) improve over time. To name a few, you can't sort playlists and they sort with numerically ordered playlists last (vs. desktop where they're first). There really needs to be some kind of macro search/filter alphabetically when looking at artists/songs/albums. I have a huge library and a notable amount of the implementation isn't practically usable because you have to sort through dozens (or more) of screens. I actually prefer Apple Music to Spotify in general, but the Tesla Spotify implementation is pretty good and — in my opinion so far — superior to the Apple Music implementation. Again, it's software and all this can change/improve (my bet is it will).
Just to be clear, these are web apis, it’s as if you’ve opened a web browser and logged into applemusic.com . I don’t think Tesla has control over that sorting but to say Spotify is better because you can’t sort playlists is kind of weird critique.

If you've got a EE (and thus potentially making $130K), I assume you're not dragging your feet on a drivers license. Outside of NYC, they're pretty essential for anyone college-age.
You forgot about Sydney and other similarly densely populated cities as well. And if someone has a relatively light need for travelling around nearby areas, a car might not be that essential.

Car manufacturer Tesla last week rolled out a holiday software update that added Apple Music support to Tesla vehicles, so we thought we'd check it out for those who are interested in a hands-on demo of how Apple's streaming music service works on the Tesla platform.

Apple Music support for Tesla cars is something that Tesla owners have long been waiting for, as the electric car company has previously only worked with streaming services like Spotify.

The experience works as you might expect, and the full Apple Music service is available. The navigation experience is superior compared to Spotify, such as options for tapping into songs from a playlist to get to the entire album along with better interface interactions.

Navigation is also straightforward, though it's worth noting that it does not appear that iTunes Match content is available for access. Lossless and Dolby Atmos also do not appear to be available at this time in Teslas, and it is not clear if that functionality is going to be enabled at a later date.

If you're a Tesla owner, you will need the 2022.44.25 Tesla Holiday Update to access Apple Music, which has been rolling out over the last seven days.

Apple Music in a Tesla is like lipstick on a pig.

One MAJOR issue with the app in the Tesla is if your playlist is over 100 songs, it separates the playlist into pages of 100 songs each. You can't play the whole playlist...only the page you select. Oh, and it won't play your smart playlists.. The playlist implementation is a dealbreaker for me.
So after you listen to 100 songs, which is about 5 hours of music, you have to chose the second page? Lol.

A lot of bugs still when using it. When you first start up your car to drive it won’t load Apple Music back again, it tells you to select a source unlike with Spotify or other sources, it doesn’t start automatically.

Playlist is limited to 100 songs.

You can’t sort a playlist or your song list to most recent.

No smart playlist.

Your playlist cover art doesn’t show up in the playlist list so it looks ugly.

The app sucks right now. I don’t get how Apple and Tesla can’t make a fully functional music app unlike Spotify. Spotify just works with every device I use the same way. Sticking with Spotify in the meantime.
My playlist cover art shows.

When I first start it up it also picks up playing right where it left off.

With the addition of Apple Music, the benefits of CarPlay in a Tesla shrink immensely. And I have wireless CarPlay on our other vehicle, a BMW X3. So I know all the pros and cons.

The one big downside is the 'dual operating system' situation, that I know from experience confuses many drivers. Having two ways to make phone calls, navigate, etc. can lead to a clunky experience.

Never leaving the Tesla UI is the only guaranteed way for best UX. The phone/text integration is on par with CarPlay. Navigation is arguably better. Now we have Apple Music. I guess if you're really dependent on Audible or some other CarPlay-enabled 3rd party app?
I would like the Apple podcast app. But the Apple Music update has been amazing so far.

You don’t need apple music for that, just load music onto a thumb drive and plug it into the usb port in the glovebox.

Can someone tell me, does the Apple Music app in the Tesla have voice commend support?

Part of what I love about using Siri over Bluetooth in my Model 3 is so I can just say “hey siri play random music from my library” and it will.

Does Tesla integrate anything into voice commands here?

it’s all improving but Carplay is still the best interface for music
I can leave the rest of the apps
good to have Apple Music now, see how it works for me

But how, exactly?

I've used CarPlay for years in my BMW. Why is the Apple Music implementation in a Tesla demonstrably worse? I realize there might be some niche differences like 'oh I can only see 100 songs on my playlist' or similar. But for ever person annoyed by that behavior in a Tesla, there is someone else that appreciates the bigger screen and/or more info displayed on the Tesla screen vs. even the biggest CarPlay screen available today.

One thing I can tell you after having a Tesla for 3 years... having a HUGE screen never gets old. Any other car I get into, the screen just feels tiny and cramped.
Yes. Lots of the new cars have bigger and better implemented screens than the Model 3 and Y. The 3 and Y were good 1st gen large screens. 2nd gen are really nice.

Not necessarily. There are large numbers of younger people that don't drive or see it as essential as previous generations. It's been written about many times over the past several years. Here's one:

Depends completely on where you live, I are up in a small town were most people lived 10-15 miles away from any kind of store or any thing.

I finally got the Holiday update today. Was most excited about Apple Music, since my S refresh had a lot of the other added features already. I hope Apple Music gets better with future updates and lets you download your music directly to the car like Tidal does, which would eliminate the small buffering between songs.

For some reason, on my playlists that include full albums, the album art is not consistent. So, the original album art may be correct for 10 out of the 12 songs, but then two other songs have totally different album art. Makes no sense, why it would not preserve the original album art.

Also - annoying how the album art is not showing up under Favorite/Recents for the album or song. It does for Tidal. Good first start and I hope Tesla keeps improving it and does not just let it be like a lot of other stuff they have.

I really wish the Holiday Update made Favorites/Recents better. This should really be presents like every other car has and the user should be able to arrange them. I have recents in the list that I listened to 6 or more months ago. That should not be a recent. Also - make the Album Art larger. It is way too small.
My album art is showing up. Even my custom photo for playlists are showing up.

I mean I can, and have, played downloaded Apple Music AND iTunes Matched music via BT/hardwire from my iPhone to the car.

That’s obviously not CarPlay sadly. Carplay is likely not to happen, pro’s & con’s to every manufacture; I’ll take the excellent Supercharger network over CarPlay any day.
