Can someone who works in retail please fill me in on how this process works? Does BB request a certain amount of iPads (like what they have reservations for), or does Apple just send whatever they want whenever they want? I'm confused as to how a few just randomly show up on one random day. Surely BB is communicating with Apple to restock, right?

It's simple. Apple controls who gets what when.

It's up to the customers to find them. Just like an old fashioned Easter Egg Hunt. That's how Apple flexes it's muscles to keep retailers and customers on the hook.

No call yet for me. Reserved Friday 5:05pm last week. 64gb AT&T black. Mount Vernon Best Buy in NY.

Hey melman I know that store, they don't have an Apple special section AFAIK. From what I was reading stores w/o Apple specialists don't get 3g models. Are you sure they can even get the model you reserved? I went to the Yonkers one just because they have an Apple area. I ordered the 64GB Black ATT too.

They let me reserve it. Who knows? I'm guessing I'm not going to get one anytime soon. I would have went to the Yonkers store but they told me they had lines for hours.

Edit: I'm going to check B&H everyday this week. See what's going on over there.

I'm first in line for a wifi 16gb white at my local best buy (brooklyn, NY), still no call and stopped in today and the woman told me no shipments have come in at all.

Does the stock updater listed in the other thread show stock even if it is reserved for a customer? If so, why Does my target Get 1-2 models every other day and best buy gets zip? Just wondering. Seems like beat buy would get more.

Btw, there is no apple store here either????

im not to surprised if stores wont get any shipments on sunday but after talking to most of the best buys in the san francisco bay area, no one has received any shipments since the original shipment, thats pretty ridiculous no one has even reported getting in 2 or 3 units like others have posted, where in the world is my black 64gb wifi

BestBuy in Emeryville got some 64GB's for Saturday.

My experience is that it does. A local Best Buy showed that they had a white AT&T 64GB iPad 2 in stock and when I called to ask about it was told that it was being held for someone who'd reserved it.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm pretty stunned that our local target is getting more of these things than Best Buy becuse according to the tracker my local store has gotten ZERO. And we don't even have an apple store.

crap should've gone to Emeryville but then again im guessing those were all reserved and the crap storm we just had in the bay wouldn't have made the drive very appealing, so i guess i got no right to complain about not having my ipad

Finally

Got calls for my wife's Wifi unit Saturday and my 3G unit on sunday. Picking both up tomorrow. I'm thankful to be getting the rewardzone points, which was the only reason we didn't order from Apple on day one. RZ points are the closest thing to a "discount" or rebate we're gonna get.

Strangely, 3 stores have gotten the model I want in, but not the one I reserved at. Even more fun, I haven't seen a single iPad show up at any of the targets or Walmarts in the area.

Can you reserve an iPad 2 over the phone or do you physically have to be at the store to reserve?

Thanks.

You can't do either because BB stopped taking reservations last week. But when they were taking them, you had to go to the store, they would not do it over the phone.

Happy day! Just got the call that my 16GB black wifi only iPad 2 is ready to be picked up!

Found one at a Target so will likely cancel my reservation or hold onto it and sell it when it comes in (not for profit, but I can put it on an 18 month zero interest plan and get reward zone points...free money is free money).

Atlanta area, seems a raft of 16 wifis are hitting but in small batches; Buckhead and McDonough got 3 black in yesterday, Perimeter and another one I can't think of got 3 white today. They are all spoken for, so don't know why they even scan them into their POS system.
