I ordered the 32gb white wifi at 1:15 PDT and mine is still NOT YET SHIPPED but I will tell you they did offer to upgrade me to priority overnight shipping and credit $41.00 and change for the cost of my smart cover. I don't think priority shipping will make any difference but they did do it because my order screen shows it.
 
What do you mean "it worked for you" - are you saying the guy just lied to me? I don't see why he wouldn't have just done it if he had the ability. What did they do for you, tell you it's about to be prepped or give you priority shipping? He said they have no control over the shipping.
Probably didn't like you.

Priority shipping is not real. Even if your order page says priority, it will be the same as everyone else...they are only saying it to get people off the phone faster.

I want a free smart cover.

Just called Customer Service for a second time.

This time I lied and said I had a friend next to me who just called and had his shipping upgraded to 2-day so they couldn't deny me.

The guy was very friendly and said right away "Ah, no problem man- I will upgrade you to 2 day shipping"

I said "Do you know how Apple is sending these out- it obviously isnt first come, first served"

Him: "Well, it is and it isn't. Was your friend's iPad 2 engraved?"

Me: "Yeah"

Him: "Okay, well his is shipping directly from the manufacturer overseas. Yours is backordered in the United States"

Me: "What do you mean backordered?"

Him: "Well, the ones getting engraved come from overseas. Yours will be coming from a warehouse in the United States,"

Me: "Really, from where- California?"

Him: "It doesn't tell me exactly where, just that yours is coming from the US. The regular iPads, not personalized, ship from the US. They are in huge demand right now, so that's why it's backordered. Don't worry, though, you should be getting a shipping update tomorrow because it will be your 5th day (it will actually be my 4th day, but whatever). So, expect the March 18-25 delivery range to be kicked back 2 days."

Me: "Hm, okay, this is all new news to me. But you're definitely giving me the shipping upgrade then?"

Him: "Definitely. I put that in for you."

There you have it- take it as you will I guess....

Maybe the order screens are lagging due to the number of orders recently. Just a though for us Not Yet Shipped peeps. Probably just me Being hopelessly optimistic lol

Just talked to Customer Service. He said there is absolutely NO WAY for any rep to change someone's order to Priority Shipping and the ONLY thing reps see is the exact same order status page we see. They cannot tell when someone's order is about to be prepared for shipment. I am very good at getting what I want on the phone and don't let up - but I persisted and this guy seemed to honestly not know anything about these things. I call BS on these previous claims of expedited shipping.

I don't know details about this exact issue but I do know that different customer reps are more knowledgeable/helpful than others. I called for someone else the other day whose order was canceled for no reason other than a glitch in the apple order/processing system. The first guy I talked to was a total a$$...he researched and found no reason why it was just cancelled and told me that it was cancelled for some reason so we'll just have to reorder and wait the 3 - 4 weeks - there was nothing he could do. I called back and talked to this wonderful lady who apologized multiple times for the other customer service rep and said that they do not treat their customers that way. She proceeded to tell me everything she was going to do to resolve the issue and what we should do. She was great...so I believe you can get opposite answers if you talk with 2 different reps...at least that happened in my experience. If in doubt...call back and talk to someone else.

The part about personalized ones coming directly from China and the others coming from the USA was mentioned as being probable earlier in this thread. But it is nice to see confirmation. Though remember this, this rep could have the highest IQ of all the ones we called and know his stuff, or he could be also the biggest BS artist of them all :) When I called a few hours ago, the person stated they are all shipped from China.

My cover is on it's way for the 22nd like many here, but I haven't been charged.. anyone else in the same position??... the original bank hold had two charges: one for cover, one for ipad.. both holds went away this AM (but rep swears everything is ok payment-wise)

No, as in now my shipping says "2-3 day" shipping on my Order Status making arrival March 16-23 (although it still says March 18-25 on my Order Status)

You don't have to go ape ****. Stay calm and just mention that your friend who is with you is in the same situation and called and just got his 2-3 day shipping. Easy. And I also saw non-engraveds get shipped from China... none from the US. Who knows, but he went off on that subject by himself, I didn't even provoke that response.

Does California produce iPads? If so, what's the volume vs China and how the f could engraved iPads be in better supply than Non engraved (bc Cali produces for stores etc...) If so, ship them site to store for customers instead of replenishing for people who haven't ordered.

Even though I've already called CS this post prompted me to call again. My rep said it's absolutely inaccurate that anyone can be upgraded to priority shipping, no such a thing. I said but it shows in the order status. He said it might show there but it doesn't change anything. I then asked about the non-engraved shipping from the US, being backordered, etc. He said he apologizes for what he must call wrong info. He looked up my order # and said my non-engraved iPad is shipping from overseas. Is that true? Who knows! He was only gone a few seconds when he looked up that info. He then said the usual "it's within the promised shipping time" and that he can't guarantee anything but is certain it will ship tomorrow. I don't believe a word spoken by any Apple rep. except for the one who told me he credited me for the cover because that's been verified.

I want to scream! AHH! People are posting images of them receiving their iPad 2's from FedEX. Past launches for every product had pre-orders. Where as on launch day is basically when our (expensive) products arrived.

So it's frustrating that being one of the very, very early online purchasers (3-5 days), I have yet to see ANY movement in shipping while others are unboxing.

Exact same order as you (except that I ordered at 12:46). My ipad cover is suppose to be here tomorrow, but what good does it do without the ipad really...
