I got the Next agreement emailed automatically after pre-ordering, I wonder why they don't do the same with the label and instructions.

Apple could have displayed the information a little more prominently too. I didn't notice it either until I read about it on another Macrumors thread. The have nice big buttons for track and pre-sign, but the return instructions link is only in small print below. And you shouldn't even have to request it be emailed to you. If they know you purchased your new phone on a NEXT upgrade, they could send you those instructions automatically.

Good points. It should be automatic. In fact, after I received the instructions and return shipping label via e-mail, I thought maybe they e-mailed it already. Maybe I missed it somehow. It's populated with all of my information already. So why not send it after my order status changes to shipped? Well, now I know for next year.

I received a shipping label to use with the box my iPhone 6S came in, and even a piece of tape to seal it up for its trip back to ATT.

And I just received a reminder text that I need to get it on its way by 10/1.

It took a phone call and a online chat for them to tell me the RMA label was for my trade in not for returning defective device.
I put it in my mailbox today before I went to work. I kinda wish I had dropped at Post Office...

I have a question & I'm hoping that current Next users can chime in.

I'm a long time AT&T customer (in good standing) & I'm thinking of of doing Next instead of Apple's own Iphone trade in program (due to the hard credit pull).

Does anyone know if signing up for Next through Apple's site requires a credit check? I would go directly through At & T but it seems that it's quicker / easier to get a phone directly from Apple.

Just wanted to see if credit checks are required by AT &T if you purchase through Apple's site.

Thanks for your help.

If you're already an AT&T customer, no credit check needed. They did that when you first signed up with them. This is just another item that will be added to your bill.

Does the phone have to be in absolute pristine condition? No scratches at all? It's a used phone, some bumps here and there but can still be powered on and off and glass screen has no cracks.

What happens if they charge me despite returning the phone, can I get it back?

Thanks for your advice!

I upgraded one line that was on the Next plan (through Apple.com, not AT&T) but haven't gotten any mailing instructions or a shipping label. I followed the link on Apple's web site, but that also didn't include a label or even a mailing address. This seems very convoluted, especially since I had originally planned to drop the old phone at the AT&T store. Apparently that's not an option, either.

Is AT&T going to send a label, or do I need to slog through a call with AT&T customer service?

No, not in pristine condition, but the screen can't be cracked and it needs to work. There are a list of questions that you must answer about the old phone when you order the new one that should determine if the old one is in acceptable condition. As long as it doesn't get damaged when you mail it back, you should be fine.

Great, thanks so much!

Luckily I was able to sell my older phone. Now I can skip the mail-in altogether and made a few bucks as well. I find it odd that corporate stores can't accept the older units simply because they weren't originally purchased from AT&T. If the phone is on a Next contract, you'd think they'd set something up to allow for more easy trade-ins and less customer service calls/headaches.

They took my old Galaxy s5 at the att store. No problem. Left with my shiny new 6s. I had to pay one more payment on my old phone, and then the new one started a new next program.

I went to corporate store today tried to turn in phone. Said they could not take it, had to be shipped back using label. Boxed it up in same box as new phone came in, removed ups labels, taped on usps shipping sticker and will take to post office tomorrow.

Same experience. Despite the fact that the ATT web site says that you can return to a store, I was told by the manager of a company-owned store that they have been given no procedure for accepting Next trades in-store. So, I too packed it in the new phone box and taped on the USPS label. Keeping my fingers crossed that there won't be problems I did have the post office give me a shipping receipt.

I bet you they are using third party to receive phones and process. Just like outsourcing user help to phone warehouse in Mumbai. Saves a few cents for AT&T but user experience stinks. Rather spend the money on marketing telling us how great they are as opposed to actually spending to make it great.
Exactly right. The shipping label they emailed me was to a company called Newgistics.

I finally got my wife's Galaxy S5 ready to send back. I used the box her iPhone 6s+ came in and we still had the box for the S5. Actually, once we took her phone out of the Otterbox, it looked brand new. You couldn't tell it's been used a year. it fit in the return box perfectly so I'll drop it off at a UPS Store tomorrow. I'll be glad to get this turd off my plate (not the Galaxy, the commitment).

I almost wanted to call AT&T and see how much it would be to just pay it off, then I could sell it for more than that balance, but screw it, I'll just keep my fingers crossed and send it off.

If you have already upgraded to your new iPhone, is it possible to payoff your old one? Where do you find out what the amount is?

I tried calling AT&T to find this out, but it said their billing department is closed. I tried looking on myATT but didn't find it, so I'd guess a call to their billing department would give you the answer... however, with it being AT&T support, who knows how many times you'll have to call to get the right answer. LOL

This is ridiculous. The chat people told me a store as well. Oh well, let's just go back to the snail mail for this. I can't wait to do that.

Nothing like dealing with them in the morning to start the day off bad... lol I almost shudder when I dial 611 and hit send.

Just so you know, the UPS Store will take it and mail it for you but they can NOT give you a receipt since it's being shipped via USPS. If you want one, you'll have to go to a true U.S. Post Office.

And prey tell how will you know what the "right" answer will be from the several different ones I'm sure you will get?

Has anyone tracked their label once it leaves your hands?
Mine didn't show up in the USPS system until after 2am and was "Delivered" picked up by shipping agent at 2:47am.
Very strange.

i wonder why they can't do a trade-in at the store (i mean pay-off how much you still owe on the phone then trade-in/buyback)? esp if you're old phone was on the Next12. It should even out or maybe you get some credit for it, right?

they probably use another company for the trade ins and don't trust the employees at the store

So are you waiting for them to bill you for your remainder balance? I was going to turn in my 6 plus but I change my mind, going to give it to my mom now. Went into att store and try to pay it off today and they said no I can't do that. So I called customer service but the rep said she doesn't even see the balance of my old phone so just wait until they bill me.
