It is very strange.

With regards to multiple readings in a minute, that may be the reason for that side of things (the person was using the glances app, which I believes takes a good few readings per minute)
For everything else, I'm stumped! Just have to wait for Apple to update again.

I haven't used the glances app and this is what I am getting.

Yesterday it didn't take any readings for 5 hours, from noon to 5 pm. Then it only took one reading from 5 to 7 pm. Then the intervals were 10-20 minutes. Today at around 12:30 it started taking multiple readings per minute. I've counted up to 12 readings a minute today. This is ridiculous.

Any official word from Apple?

We need a fix real bad. 1.0.1 appears to have messed up heart rate readings and notifications.

BTW, is there anyway to view heart rate date on a graph that shows a bit more data than what I think the Health app is capable of?

It looks like the HealthDash app will be adding heart rate to their graphs in the next version. I believe the API's are in place to allow any app request access to read/write to the heart rate data.

the health app is awful on how it displays data. I'm so used to how FitBit does it and when Fitbit charts it, it's far more useful.

sweet! I welcome 3rd party apps to fix/replace the Health app displays

I know this is related to heart rates, but anyone having problem with the workout app too?

I just did 51 minutes of indoor run, under exercise it says 32 minutes ? but does shows 51 minutes of workout under workouts ( on the Activity app on iPhone )

For me my heart rate seems to record every 10 minute if I am not moving about much or my rate is below a certain limit (not sure which).

I wonder when I then move about or my heartbreaker t increases above a certain level does the heart rate counts as "activity" and then update the activity app instead?

Looking at my 10 minute auto heart rates and they are all below 90mpm

UPDATE: for the past hour my 10 minute updates have stopped but the MOVE activity has updated during this same period. Going to watch some TV now. Let's see if MOVE stops and the 10 minute updates resume...

UPDATE 2: Forget above! 10 minutes cycles aren't updating while I'm at rest nor is the activity app. I give in.

I do wish Apple could give us some feedback as to when they envisage updating and, in the meantime, it would be good to offer us the option of going back to Version 1.0 again.

yeah, it's wildly inconsistent for me, regardless of activity level. I had a 5 hour drive the other day, you'd think the sitting still theory would have worked... nope... same thing when I was running around with my dog in the backyard. I was more active but still no heart rate readings. It seems the only way I can get readings is to activate the workout app or take them manually through glances. This needs to be fixed ASAP. Coming from a FitBit charge HR, I like have the more frequent HR readings.

You only get Workout credit when your HR is over a certain BPM (I'm not sure what the exact threshold is).

So, I just realized that my heart rate data wasn't consistently every 10 minutes even before the update to 1.0.1. Wondering if it's software for sure? Anyone gotten a replacement that ended up fixing this issue?

I suffer from the same problem. If I go back to my readings before 1.01, they are at 10 minute intervals as Apple specified they would be. The only time they're not is when I'm in workout mode, which is a constant reading.

Now they are at least an hour apart when not in workout, and often times longer than that. It is very frustrating.

And I really doubt this was battery optimization. If anything, my watch actually uses a bit more juice than before. On watch 1.0, with a workout of 30-60 minutes, I'd have around 40% remaining after being worn for 14 hours. Now it's more like 30%. Not a super big deal, but what doesn't make sense to me is that I'd expect the battery life to be better given the watch is clearly not reading HR as often. Go figure.

If that's how it works, then that's completely asinine.

If my resting heart rate is 42, and I go for a brisk walk that doubles my heart rate to 84, then that should qualify as exercise no?

But if Apple surmises that the average human has a resting HR of 72, and they set the threshold for exercise credit at 85 (a modest 18% increase) that person gets exercise credit but I don't.

You can't simply apply a simple BPM threshold without factoring in a host of other variables.

yes! it seems as though HR is not updating sometimes during a workout and it just keeps saying measuring, since calorie burn is related to HR it messes the whole algorithm up, also the watch is supposed to figure out exercise as anything above a brisk walk but lets say you're doing some form of exercise that doesn't require a lot of movement but the exercise gets your HR up, what happens? apple needs to fix this soon, working out with the watch is one my favorite features and it's disappointing that its not working right

i don't think it works this way, apple watch since the update sometimes doesn't take my HR for hours but yet in that time i get workout credit towards my 30 minutes during those hours, according to apple its anything more than a brisk walk so i think its more related to movement.

This update seems to be doing super weird things. At first it would make massive gaps between checks, some up to 4 hours apart from each other, but it seems like now it is back to normal. I would really like an update that really did fix this issue though, and they have to know that it is needed.

I wold actually like to set my times, sometimes I might want to take it every 5 minutes for a certain time period. Like the exercise app but less aggressive and not tied to an exercise.

I think it just stops trying sooner in the new update that's why it 's closer to every 10 minutes when resting. If it can't lock on in a certain time it just quits trying.

Exactly. Both recording rates should be configurable.. Both the workout (currently 5s) and the non-workout (was 10 minutes, now it is whenever).

To be completely honest 5s heart rate recording for serious training is sub-optimal. It pretty much precludes you from doing intervals etc. with any accuracy. This number should be 1s. As for the non-workout interval, I would like to be able to set it at 1 minute. That is in line with other 24 hour HRMs like the Basis Peak.

Obviously what I describe above would come at a cost and that would be battery life. But that should be up to me to manage that, and I don't have a problem slapping the watch on the puck when needed. Better and more accurate data would be worth the cost of extra charging time for to me, for others, probably not and they can set the recording intervals at the maximum or turn the HRM off if they are interested in the longest possible battery life.

Still looks like I am only getting passive readings (should be every 10 minutes), while I am sleeping. While sleeping, I am getting readings every 10 minutes.

Otherwise, pretty much no other readings except the occasional reading while I am completely still.

I went for a outdoor run today and I had the heart rate measurer lost for a couple of times, not being consistent, sometimes it went 1 minute without updates

Does anybody has the same issue?

Users are definitely reporting this issue all over user forums, including Apples.

As to whether they are working on it, or view it as a problem, that's anyone's guess. As of today, they haven't commented on it publicly, unlike the wrist tattoo issue where they were quick to issue a statement about a problem that affects a fraction of the users affected by the general HR inconsistencies. Go figure.

Here is graph of my heart rate from a run yesterday (I am beta testing an iOS app that lets you see your HR graphically with data from iOS Health). You can see weirdness at the start, at 8 minutes and at 26 minutes. I also ran with a Wahoo Tickr chest strap (graph in white) which shows no of the spikes at the times listed above.

That's interesting. Is my understanding that the health app does not allow heart rate data to read by 3rd party apps.

Is the app for jail broken devices?
