I have S4 and not upgrading my 12 Pro Max this year, so I think I will see a decent benefit from upgrading to the S7.
The exact same situation here: not upgrading the 12 Pro Max although I looove the number 13 in my life. So, will upgrade my S4 to S7. Can’t wait. I use it a lot for everything, from health monitoring to all kind of apps, so I might go cellular with the S7. Bigger screen, faster charging, everything else will make my decision to upgrade from S4 to S7 easier.
I forgot to add: the colors are very enticing, from the blue to the green and even the red. Difficult to choose…

See I have a cellular model 4, found that I wasn’t using it at all (even though it only cost £5/m) so ended up cancelling the tariff.
The only times I need my Apple Watch when I didn’t have my phone around (left at home by accident) is for purchasing things. Of course you don’t need cellular for that.
Forgot to add: Getting the green 👍

I wanted to, but the upgrades seem to be purely superficial. A bigger screen and more rounded case doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade. Most sources also state that it’s using the same processor and battery as the series 6. Another big negative is the replacement for Space Gray. I find the midnight color to be absolutely revolting. Space Gray is the perfect neutral. It can be dressed up and dressed down thanks to its metallic finish. Midnight appears to be more matte. It looks very tech-ey. I don’t care for it at all. I’ll stick with the Series 6.

Probably would’ve done if the rumoured design overhaul had happened, but not going to upgrade for the sake of 1-2mm extra screen. Definitely think there’s some credibility in the idea that this was a ‘Plan B’ update: something definitely seemed off. (Not announcing a release date, no mention of the chip, website lists that all tests for e.g. battery life used a “pre-production” model - something not done on other new products, etc.)

Care to elaborate?
Everyone is underwhelmed, yet here I am with a Series 6 and I’m blown away.

Do any of you even remember what it was like going from 3 to 4? The larger screen made such a world of difference for use. An even bigger screen now is going to make that same world of difference. Especially as the entire UI has once again been redesigned for the 7 screen. I remember the difference it made with simply typing in my passcode from 3 to 4, let alone everything else. This will feel just as dramatic.

No, the keyboard would not work as well on the smaller screens, not even on the 44mm 6, because the experience would be worse, and Apple was not satisfied with offering a keyboard in the smaller screen sizes until now. This alone is huge for those who text a lot on their watches. Anyone who thinks the keyboard would be possible on any Series besides 7 would actually be the same people complaining about how hard the keyboard is to use if it was offered. This is like the Series 4 exclusive faces all over again. Your Series 3 could never support it, but everyone at the time insisted it should be possible! And when you start to see Series 7 screens out in the wild you’ll see how the single biggest feature of the watch being upgraded is all on its own a huge deal.

70% brighter AOD is almost double as bright. That’s starting to become very futuristically bright for a screen that never turns off.

50% thicker crystal and the improved ingress protections are very nice to have.

8 minutes charging for 8 hours of sleep tracking and 45 minutes for 80% means people really can’t complain about the battery life, it’s possible to not even leave it charging overnight now and likely never run out.

The rounded edges and screen reaching all the way to the edges (40% bezel reduction, 20% screen size increase) means that those of us who require quick glances at the edges of our faces to check critical timers will not have to take second glances.

All of these features together provide more than a significant upgrade, even as a Series 6 user, who will have no problem selling it on eBay for a nice price.

I’m reminded of everyone who said AOD was no big deal and the Series 5 didn’t even really have a faster chip anyway either! Except the AOD was a huge change that I am never going back from.

People like to minimize what they don’t have.

Do agree the bigger screen is a bigger deal than I thought. AOD is great on my series 6 but i do wish it was brighter and from the sounds this is a big difference. I know for many a onscreen keyboard is not a big deal but i many times reply off my watch when in a rush and i would much rather use an on screen keyboard.

Exactly, the amount of times I’ve yearned for a functional keyboard on the Apple Watch is uncountable.

I tried Flicktype or whatever the not allowed loophole keyboard app was called that existed before Apple whitelisted it and I was not impressed. Very much looking forward to Apple’s real answer to a watch keyboard.

Apple says S7 screen will be "nearly 20% larger" than S6. Apple also says S4/5/6 screen is over 30% larger than S3 and if my math isn’t wrong the only place where that is true is in sq mm display area which is also the only visible measurement Apple bothers to show off in its Watch technical specifications. Now if you look at S6 specs you can see 40mm has 759 sq mm and 44mm has 977 sq mm. So make 40mm’s 759 sq mm exactly 20% larger and you get 910 sq mm. Well short of 977 sq mm of 44mm Watches. So if Apple’s claimed nearly 20% is in sq mm like it is with S3 to S4, by your logic 41mm S7 shouldn’t get the full keyboard.

Someone check my math though, it might be totally wrong and I’m talking out of my ass here.

Although I am tempted to upgrade for the bigger screen due to my aging eyes, I don't think it's worth the loss I'd take to sell my AW6.

The most I have ever gotten for a SS AW is $400 and that's with it in next to new condition (no visible scratches or dings). So I sell it and get $400. A new SS is around $700-800. Not sure it's worth the $300+ upgrade.

Yeah the SS resale isn’t amazing. Least with the non SS models it’s only like a 150 cost when selling.

As far as I know there are only a few small differences:

1. Smaller bezels, which is nice but not a big deal for me
2. Bigger size (41mm instead of 40mm), which I don’t like but probably won’t notice
2. Faster charging, which is nice but irrelevant to me, since I recharge every night anyway

So this update seems totally irrelevant for about everyone with an S6. This whole story seems rather bizarre if you ask me. The Series 8 better be good.

So now all 3 watches On sale have their own set of possible faces.

I mean, s7>s6 no doubt. How much is it worth is a different story for each person. To put it simply, i am fine with using s6 for another year, but may not hold the same sentiment if i had to out sit the 8 with a 7. Provided it gets new health and cpu.

I’m sure many don’t think it’s worth upgrading but when they are available to buy people will still go for it. Bigger screen i think will be a big pull for most.

Nope there isn't any major reason to upgrade to the Series 7 if you have a Series 6. Hopefully the series 8 will have new health features that will make it worth while lol.

About a year later my Series 6 battery health is at 98% which isn't bad at all. My watch can go nearly two days on a single charge.

For you a slightly bigger screen, brighter display, and redesign is big enough improvements and worthy of upgrading. For others those seem like minor things that don't really make it different enough from last years model. Everyone has their reasons for upgrading or not. Neither side is wrong honestly LOL. I don't have AOD on for my series 6 so having a brighter screen for that doesn't appeal to me at all. I do like a bigger screen and will be nice on the series 8. Personally, new health benefits and under the hood tech improvements is the key factor in upgrading my apple watch like a blood pressure monitor etc. But again, everyone has their own tastes and reasons for upgrading.
