Probably not, even though I really want the new starlight color, there aren't any real differences that would justify the upgrade for me. So guess I'll have to wait until next year. Hopefully they will follow through with the design change then.

Wasn’t going to originally, but I think I might since the upgrade cost won’t be too bad with a trade in/selling the S6.

Mostly interested in:
- fast charging, hopefully will make it easier to do sleep tracking. Right now, end up with 10% at the end of the day lots of the time so can’t do sleep tracking.
- bigger display, mostly interested in modular duo face + brighter AOD
- more durable, wear my watch in lots of environments so more crack resistant display and IP6X will be nice

I originally thought no way I’d upgrade, but thinking about it more, it’s kinda appealing.

I will.

I used to upgrade every other year with a stainless model but recently I have been getting aluminum ones which basically allows me to upgrade yearly for the same cost. My only question at this point is of color. I have been getting space gray after space gray model and I finally was ready to commit to a year of silver... but the yellowish starlight has me second guessing that as a guy. Only issue is while midnight looks cool it is yet another year of a very dark watch after years of either space gray or space black.

Thoughts on "starlight" for men?

(Copy and pasted here from another thread)

I honestly have no idea what I'm doing. I've had a S3, S4 and S6 all dark Space black color. I'm getting tired of it. I really like the silver as it pops but is more dressy (and no knows that I have the ss instead of the AL version- is that tacky of me) and I'm more hoodie and sweats kinda guy and because of my occupation I don't really need to dress up in "Business casual". So the black SS works for me. Also the coating they put on it makes it extremely durable. I'm not careful at all about my watch and the case looks great. I also because I'm anal add a screen protector (I know) that as a few marks on it. With the silver SS I'm worried about the micro scratch that happens over time.
Also this year's update is kinda lame. I'm thinking I may just go for the midnight Al with a screen protector with the intention of upgrading to the SS S8 next year. I never use the cellular. I'm so used to the SS feeling I don't know if I can go back to the Al. I do like the better sapphire crystal on the SS. I may use the savings of going aluminum and get a new iPad mini not to mention the rumor of the MacBooks, you know the thing that allows my to pay for all my itoys 😂

I had the original watch, then the S3 and now the S6. This one is titanium so there would need to be a big change for me to consider updating. I expect to keep this watch at least three years and maybe longer. I'm still deciding whether to replace my phone this year. My XS still feels pretty new but the camera improvements of the 13 Pro (especially in terms of macro) are calling to me.

I'm a Man and considering starlight. I already have black bands, Milanese loops (silver) and white bands. I don't think Midnight will go with anything. Just look at it using AR via the website and zoom up close - way too blue. Starlight looks to match with everything and will have quite nice a pop.

I have an AW5 and an AW6, I usually upgrade the oldest one each year and pass the old one to my son. I was a little disappointed that there were no real upgrades this year, seriously I look at the comparison pics between 6 and 7, and it doesn’t look much different (to me, your opinion might be different).

So i picked up a nearly new AW6 cellular from eBay in excellent condition with a 100% condition battery instead for £270. I’ll pass the AW5 to my son and run with these for now.

I probably will, mostly for fast charging. I typically charge my watch as I get ready for work (which usually takes 30-40 minutes) and it usually charges up to 65-80%, and then I charge for a few minutes before I go to sleep. If I include a few workouts into my day then my watch will be dead or extremely low on a charge. So I’m sure the fast charging will help add a little bit more juice for the day.

Just can’t decide between Midnight or Starlight. I currently have the Series 6 in blue.

I have a series 4 that I am not even sure I will upgrade. The larger screen, AOD and additional health tools might be nice. Plus my current battery is at 82%. But man, I just don’t know. I’m really torn on it

it's tough but i think that would be a huge upgrade *for you*. i mean the larger screen size is a big deal IMHO, AOD is now in its 3rd year and apparently brighter than ever when off, and the optical HR accuracy has been improved since S4 and now also has O2 sensing. Plus you get a fresh battery and slightly faster charging.

the knocks against buying this year is 1) next year will almost certainly see some kind of health sensor improvement or addition (although the rumor for 2022 is an unexciting skin temperature sensor which has limited practical use from other companies like fitbit and soon whoop that have it) and 2) there is this "where there is smoke there is fire" rumor of a "flat" sides apple watch that stunningly didn't happen. when apple has change body designs they have kept them for THREE years but there is this odd sense that the new 41/45mm S7 surely can't survive 3 years can it since it is so close to the S4-S6 generation? personally i think it is VERY unlikely now the S8 immediate changes body AGAIN after only a year but perhaps the S9 will do it in 2 years since the overall soft look is getting dated and it is hard to tell you have a "new" model which people value in particular in a device that many use as jewelery.

33% faster is significant but use caution in that impressive "8 minutes gets you 8 hours of sleep tracking" because don't forget "sleep mode" on the apple watch turns the screen off and disables lift to wake too... so they are saying 8 hours of NO SCREEN and NO NOTIFICATIONS which is very different from 8 hours of normal use during the day with the always on display active, constant wrist raises and lots of incoming notifications.

we still will have to invest a good amount of time charging this thing everyday.

I don't use sleep mode so it's not a concern for me. I usually charge for about 20-30 minutes before I put it back on for sleep :p

Thanks for the reply - won’t lie, this actually may have swayed me toward buying one haha. Apple might owe ya a commission 😉

I was tempted to trade in my SS series 6 for 7 but the trade-in value is so bad this year ($270 max!) that I’m going to skip the upgrade. Series 7 SS would cost me $529 before tax including trade-in of my perfectly good Series 6 SS. Last year the trade-in on my Series 4 SS for 6 was $400 and it was 2 years old, not one!😧. Not sure what has changed.

Yeah the SS resale isn’t amazing. Least with the non SS models it’s only like a 150 cost when selling.
I was willing to be out of pocket up to $400 to trade. But it would be north of $500 trading a nearly new watch. I’m very fond of the stainless models bc sapphire screen is more scratch-resistant and I like the shiny silver finish with all my watchbands.
It’s kind of mind-boggling that it costs
more to upgrade my watch than my 12 PM to 13 PM!
