I was there last saturday and the one that I saw didn't have the problem! Or at least it was so weak (much weaker than on my 15" PB) that I didn't notice the lines.
So... three days ago? Or Saturday the week before? I was there sometime last week (Tuesday or so), and they had replaced the one with really bad lines from ~two weeks ago with a model that had less obvious lines. I'll visit the store next time I'm downtown and have a look at it again.

I'm seeing so many of these threads around lately.

Has anyone checked the refresh rate on their monitor? I know on the Apple Discussion forums people were testing to see what their refresh rates were, some were quite low, around 43Hz instead of the standard 60Hz.

Also is this effecting any of the other new Powerbooks? Or just the 15" models?

Cheers.

New DL-SD 15" model only

Ok thanks.

I have ordered a 15" CTO one, I'm trying frantically to get it cancelled.

Not sure if I'd have to pay a restocking fee?
Any ideas what price or percentage that usually is?

If it doesn't effect the 17" models, I may buy another one of those, which is what my current Powerbook is, thought the 15" would give me a bit more portability, turning out to be a bad choice =(

Problem is (probably) with all 15inch PB's

I just went down to the Apple reseller in my city to see if their PB's had the same problem. They do. I think they all do, it is only a matter of degrees.

The manager couldn't see the problem at first. My wife still can't. I think that some people just can't see it...including also apparently Apple and their quality assurance people on the line in Shanghai.

While I was there I compared mine and the other 15 inchers in the Apple store with the 17 inch and 12 inch models and there is absolutely no comparison. Even the 12 inch (which uses an iBook display!) is sharper and has absolutely no signs of this problem. The 17 inch is also stunning.

On a normal LCD, you can find that those lines on the ESPN logo won't be visible if you scroll, it's an artifact LCD's have that is known as ghosting or motion blur. On the powerbook apparently they aren't visible even if you aren't scrolling.

The ESPN logo lines are visible on the new PB screens. They only dissapear if you scroll. Same thing happens on my iMac's screen but probably to a lesser extent... and anyway what is that suppose to prove?

We're not talking about the lines disappearing while scrolling, mind you.

The lines disappearing on the ESPN logo while scrolling is exactly the point Wombert. The lines are intentionally part of the logo and when they disappear moving up or down by a pixel they help demonstrate the issue most are complaining about.

Some posts in here are referring to the lines not being visible while the web page contents are moving during scrolling. This will happen with any LCD.

Heh thanks :) I had just finished updating the list and was about to upload the new version when I read your message. Thanks for your message, I didn't have #227002 on my list. The website is now updated and includes the links to all the threads above.

Wombert, while you're updating your page, add me to the ones that sent a PB in for repair and it came back with the same problems. They didn't do *anything* to it...just sent it back with a note saying that it was "within spec". :(

Done. Thanks!

I have just joined the thread, I have a new 15" PB and I can see some lines, but they are only noticeable on the desktop (standard background). Is this problem with everyone or just a few?

Everyone has them..

Suddenly the option of using a hacked version of OSX seems so much better right? You get to buy the high quality hardware YOU want, you don't have to pay rip off prices for inferior products.

Over all Apple products are better than usual. Other laptop manufacturers have had major problems, this is not an Apple only thing. Give it time. Ill bet dollars to donuts Steve is uber pissed. Apple will fix it.

Yep its looking like its ALL the 15".

Those people who say they havent got them, never post pics to prove it - unlike those with the problem.

I'm looking forward to recieving my new PB; but I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that Apple will solve the problem via a software update. I'm resigned to the fact tht my PB will have the lines - at least I wont be dissapointed

ok, i've read through most of this thread and i am still unclear... are there any 15" new PBs that DO NOT have lines??

i have read at least 2 people say that they have seen 15" PBs without the lines, but have these been confirmed?

from what i understand (and i was just in the apple store, working with a mac genius last night).. ALL of the new 15" PBs have the lines and it is not yet recoginzed as a defect by apple.

i am about to return mine for a refund, so please tell me if there is hope of getting one without lines before i do this so i can just get a new one instead... help!

I do believe there are those powerbooks iwthout this issue. I myself own a powerbook WITH the lines, but have seen 15''ers without the lines at a local mall. THe issue however seems to be EXTREMLY widespread.

There were some reports by people who said they didn't have the lines, but unfortunately, these have not been confirmed yet. We're still waiting for a photo that can "prove" there are displays without lines. I've seen some photos recently where the lines were very subtle, but that's all.
