Could someone please tell what is apples policy on refunds? If I have those lines will I have trouble getting my money back?
goodcompany said:Apple's policy is different from country to country, as they are bound by the consumer protection laws of any country in which they do business. In Denmark for example, and in most other EU countries, Internet purchases can be returned without question or penalty for up to 14 days from the day of delivery.
I am on day 7 today, so I will probably be calling Apple unless it turns out to be soft/firm ware based (not likely) and can be fixed. Pity - an otherwise perfect machine...BTO! (sigh)
If you are in the U.S. you might have to pay a hefty restocking fee. But under the circumstances (defective) they will probably let it slide. Please post some news about your screen once you get it.

17"?
Guess the 17" has it's own set of issues, namely poor viewing angles, dark corners,
and backlighting coming through the bottom 1/2" of the screen.
Nothing compared to the 15" scan lines though.
I'm conflicted. My brain tells me to wait until mwsf06, my penis
tells me to buy a 17" now. It's like the classic brain vs penis chess battle in Seinfeld.
Wish I knew forsure that this was going to to be the last ppc powerbook update,
but part of me thinks they might sneak in a 7448 last minute... So close to mwsf06,
I can wait dammit! Maybe by then the 15" display will be fixed.
i have a feeling that replacement will have the same issuejbsengineer said:someone in the applenova forums said apple is replacing there's and ASSURED them the new one would not have the problem...

"Called Apple Support, they are going to replace the thing. Good service. I was assured that the replacement will not have this issue. We'll see... ;-)"

Then it'd reach a larger audience and apple might take notice!
hopejr said:I've been thinking, there's an easy way for Apple to fix this problem, using a firmware update. It will cause the screen to be dimmer, but probably won't be as bad as the old one. All they need to do is make every other line (the bright ones) darker before being sent to the screen. Then it will be uniform.

mizzi said:well here's my story, take it for what you will.
after reading everyone's story, i was ready to walk into my local apple store and stare into these god awful lines on the new 15"...the 15" i just ordered over the weekend. i fought through the crowd and saw 3 different 15" powerbooks. i thought this was too good to be true, i'll look at all 3...and i did.
i must have looked like a real goon staring at the display all squinty eyes from 3 inches away...but after looking at all 3 displays for god only knows how long..the only place i could see the lines was on the blue desktop/background (new to mac, dont know what you guys call that) i was relieved beyond words. i did see the lines though...but i opened pictures, i opened CS2, i opened espn.com...on all of these. this is something i would be incredibly anal about and i absolutely would notice this type of problem immediately.
i had a friend with me as well, who stared with me...same deal. only on the background did we see these lines. stood it up side by side on the 17" too...did the same thing on that one.
in conclusion, i walked out of the apple store with very little to almost no concern that my powerbook will be fine. maybe i'm not as affected by the lines, but we had 2 sets of eyes, both of which came to the same conclusion. looked good to us.
i hope this some people in my same position at ease...at least somewhat. best of luck to those waiting for theirs in the mail, just like me.
