As a necessary evil I have both:

1. FB to stay connected to a few friends/colleagues/family. Much easier to group them all on there and see their updates, pictures etc as most people use this nowadays. I have it locked way down though with minimal information about myself and all apps disabled except access for my phone.

2. Twitter to stay in touch with various topics and sports. Love the real-time updating. Many times I find out about something on there before the news outlets have it up.

Seems like most of the people/companies/teams I follow will at least have one of these...

I have both. Will someone please explain or link me why its bad? I know its a waste of time, as it becomes very addicting, and i try to use it minimally. But i honestly dont undertand why people say its so bad.

"Bad" can mean anything. In this case, I suspect that more often than not it means "I don't have a use for it." I think many people who fear it either don't understand it, or they have a great deal to hide.

My point is when people follow you they can find out lots of stuff you might not want to share with a bunch of strangers! Ex girlfriend was just an example.

You're aware that people can't follow you unless you allow them to, right? And you're aware that nobody will find drunk pictures of you unless you post them, right?

You probably have more to worry about with other people taking a picture of you while you're out celebrating and posting that picture. This is a case of the problem being in the behavior, not in the medium in which the incriminating evidence is presented.

I've never really looked into the logistics of how they work as I have no interest in them. As for embarrassing photos of me online not really gonna happen as I don't do things like that for about 20 years. But I have read plenty of stories of people's past coming out on Facebook. Truth is if you don't want embarrassing stuff about you on line don't do any. Also read plenty about people mouthing off about there employer and it getting back to them through twitter.

I have a FB account that gets checked like three times a year. I set it up a few years ago to find some specific people and accomplished that. Now I really don't have a need or use for it.

I don't have twitter at all.

I haven't logged into my facebook in over a year at least. Never had any friends to "network" with, and all my friends now don't have one either.

I think I had a twitter for...a day?

These days, I have Twitter, but mostly to keep abreast of political stories, sources, situations and news in some countries that interest me. So, I use it to consume information rather than create content, as I only tweet occasionally.

However, I have no intention of joining FB.

Neither.
Fb? No. I dont need to see every updates they (collegues/friends) do or did or ... I dont care.

Twitter? Dont find any useful task for it.

Tumblr? Yes. I follow some blogs - e.g. astronomicalwonders, visulizingmath...

Why would you post pictures of yourself drunk and underage? For that matter, why would you even get drunk at that age? Why would you allow your ex-girlfriend to have access to your Twitter feed (or why would you care if she did)?

I respect that you're trying to fend off damage control, but to me the best way to do that is not to do anything that could damage your reputation.

What a U.S.-centric view of the world.

I had a Facebook account for a short while to keep up with a friend who had moved to another state. Deleted it when one of her kids' accounts got hacked and started sending me spam. I also didn't like the posts I kept getting about playing Farmville. I really didn't have anything to post anyway.

The less of my info on the internet the better, I think.

I have the Twitter, but will never have the Facebook.
I have both, sort of like yours I run them under them under my political name. On Twitter I have over 9000 followers and 134,000+ on FB, however I do not have accounts under my personal name.

The pole needs a new option: I Do all my Chatter on MacRumors...

I signed up for Twitter to follow Chuck Todd during the last election cycle and will probably do that again. So I use Twitter every 4 years but never ever post a tweet.

My local drag strip posts all it's info on Facebook, so I maintain an account just for that purpose. No personal page. I gave FB my cell number to "Enhance my security" and now I keep getting these "What are you up to?" texts from them.

AFB: I'm not exactly hip. I believe BM is a form of bathroom body function. Bears do it in the woods...

I do not have either one. I don't care for social media in general. I do have an Instagram account, but it's only for viewing my friends' photos and I haven't uploaded any myself.

I have Facebook. I've found it to be a useful tool in staying in touch with family/friends across the country. It's also a good outlet for immediate news updates, sports updates, things of that nature. Lately though I've found it to be increasingly...annoying. People spamming my newsfeed with "multi level marketing" garbage (Thrive, Isagenix, Herbalife, etc). People sharing clickbait and other garbage links and fake articles. My feed has become about half useful/half garbage. Maybe I just need to go through and start thinning out the people and brands that I follow.

I have a Twitter but never use it. Very few of my friends/family have it, and those that do have it don't use it (they use FB as it is far more functional).

I have Instagram and I'm starting to use that more and more. It's obviously good to share and view photos in a simple "bare bones" type of format.
