While I agree with those who think it's not going to happen, I do think it's a golden opportunity for Apple to surprise people with a completely new style along with a larger display. That would stimulate a huge boost in attention & rebuild the trust many lost when they got screwed by Antennagate.

iPhone not redesigned in 2011: people angry!!
iPhone redesigned in 2012: people angry!!

Hahahaha.

I read that in bed and laughed so hard I woke everyone up : /

the only product from apple that you need to worry about getting a good one first is a mac pro/macs. Both iPad and iPhone can be sold with little to no loss at all in order to get the new one when they come out. So if a new redesigned iPhone comes out on in June ill sell my 4S and get it. no biggie.

but why would people buy our second-hand iPhones at that price?

Not that bothered, would likely pay for the ugprade, hand my gf my 4s as she likes it, and retire her trusty 3G.

I expect an iPhone 5 out in the late Summer or Fall next year. I'd be disappointed if there wasn't an update to the iPhone in 2012.

If it's a super great update - I'd wrangle my way into getting one (by transferring my 4s to a family member or friend or maybe selling it and taking a bit of a hit for an early upgrade.)

I expect the main feature will be LTE support and a new design. I doubt LTE will be rolled out on the Big Island of Hawaii by then -- so it's not a big deal for me. AT&T is really fast here and has good coverage on both sides of the island.

Honolulu (and most of Oahu) has 3G and 4G, and if I lived on that island, I might have waited a year to get a 4G/LTE version of iPhone.

I'm on the 4s -> 5s cycle now, and even if the iPhone 5 is cool, I'm betting the iPhone 5s will be slightly cooler.

I'll be buying an iPhone "5s" in 2013 for sure.

(Maybe by 2013 I'll get my AT&T pre-order iPhone 4s...) (zing!)

Yep I belive it will be coming this time next year, that's why I just get a 12 month contract not to get stuck into something for this reason.

There is an iphone 5. Its been described to me as a game changer.

It will be thinner, 4G, bigger display etc...

Expect it between June and October 2012. I believe it will depend on the deployment of true 4G on the carriers.

Seems everyone still wants a redesigned iPhone despite the new release of the 4S. How would you react if that happened June 2012?

I wouldn't care that much. I have my new phone and will probably keep it for two + years like I did the 3GS.

Wow, if you're gonna be livid if Apple releases the iP5 in July 2012 don't ever go android...

New phones out bettering the old ones almost every MONTH

If you're a member of this forum then you knew the likelihood and therefore its an informed decision to either buy 4S now or wait that extra 8 months for a 5 (who knows, Apple might make it a fall release every year from now on) ... you made a choice... live with it, don't blame the industry for moving on

Read the cool CNET article about why 5 wasn't released, yes its speculative but makes a lot of sense.

I suppose I'd do what have done already - wait for the subsequent, refined version of the next best thing. Better to be on the cutting edge than the bleeding edge...

It's what comes with the territory of technology, why be mad?

I'd buy the iPhone 5 and I'd love it. And I'd put my 4S up for adoption to cover some of the price.

I wouldnt be mad but feel it would be a bad move sales wise. I will wait my year for upgrade then upgrade. They didnt hold a gun to my head to buy this phone and will happliy pay my contract that I signed.

I think might announce in June and start presale in sept or something like that.

Id wait until the ip5s...

The "s" phones always seem to be what the original release for that series should have been/

Usually I would agree with you but this phone would be the last phone Steve had his hand in from start to finish and would buy knowing this in back of my mind, kinda honor the man.

I would be slightly pissy....I was told by AT&T that after last week they are changing their early upgrade provision on Family plans. No longer is head of plan eligible for early upgrade every year....what a load of crap.

If Apple increases the screen size, I'm a buyer.

Now that they've learned how to make a phone & antenna combo that works, I'm enthused again.

Too bad they screwed up, got greedy, and stuck with the tiny display for the 4S.

Screwed up. 4 Million screw ups is terrible. The fastest selling smartphone ever. That is ever. That is a major screw up. Clearly isn't working for them. :roll eyes:

You clearly don't know how Apple operates. If you want a bigger screen and that is all that matters to you buy a Android phone. If you already have one keep it and be happy.

Apple does everything for a reason, they not do add a gimmick, but useful features. The screen size will not change until they can make a bigger screen without making the phone bigger or that much bigger. They designed the screen so that the average hand can reach everywhere on the screen with one hand. Making one had use actually usable. On my Galaxy S2 with the 4.3 inch screen. That isn't happening or not easily. And I have big hands. I am fairly tall.

This article sums it up better than I ever could.

http://dcurt.is/2011/10/03/3-point-5-inches/

Do I want a bigger screen, yes. Do I want a bigger phone, no. Until they can bring a bigger screen in the same phone size or similar with the same battery life or better the iPhone will not have a bigger screen. Apple cares about battery life and usability over all else. It is what makes Apple "Apple'.

They don't add a feature unless it is usable, or serves a purpose, doesn't add more hardware for the sake of adding more hardware if it isn't going to add to the user experience. 512 of Ram. Yep. Does it take away from the user experience no. Is iOS optimized to use less Ram. Yes. But why would they do that. They did it for a reason. They do everything for a reason.

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...ne_4s_motivated_by_battery_life_concerns.html

Greed, please. They have more money than they know what to do with. They make money because they meticulously 'outthink' the competition. Are always one step ahead. Attention to the every aspect and detail of their products.

Not because they saved a few bucks on a bigger screen. That is ridiculous. Nonsense.

The same reason that iOS is optimized for the hardware. They work as one unit. That is the reason that the 4S is the fastest smartphone on the market today. The bench marks are ridiculous. Why is that? Because Apple uses their hardware efficiently, makes every use of the OS to take advantage of the hardware.

And the 3.5 screen is not small. It is big. Huge actually for a phone. Not as big as Android devices, but the iPhone is not a Android device. Nor should it be.

Apple isn't google, or Samsung, or Moto. They are different. If you cannot see that, which clearly you cannot. Why buy one? Just buy a Galaxy Nexus and be happy.

Heck, I wouldn't be mad if they released one next month. I love my 4s. But I just want to see the next versions screen size so I'll be reassured that they really aren't going to stick with this tiny screen forever.

Keep the 4S around for the kids and those tiny hand users who don't feel their wee little fingers can reach all the buttons and get something bigger for the adults and users who understand that smartphones haven't been one handed devices for years.

People always buy second-hand iPhones for good money. I've never sold one for under $300 and I just sold my 32GB iP4 for $400 on eBay. That's how/why many of us upgrade each year. In the end, it only costs me a couple of hundred bucks per year to always have the latest model.
