I feel like I'm very likely to end up getting this machine, but it definitely won't be this side of the new year, for several reasons:
- Want to see it in person in store first, try it out myself
- Waiting for more reviews from my preferred channels (particularly Lisa's from MobileTechReview)
- Waiting to see if any issues rear their heads (it is still a gen 1 product after all, even if it's largely designed around the principle of fixing what was wrong with the 2019)
- I'd prefer to have a machine from later in the production cycle, it seems there's often a slightly higher chance of getting a unit with manufacturing issues when getting one of the first batch made
- If there is a problem I'd like to be able to swap it out quickly without any worries about constrained stock (assuming its going to be as popular as it looks on this board!)
- Almost certainly big retailers will have it for £1-200 off in a few months time, if I'm going to be buying extra dongles, cables, USB C accessories [and a £20 power cable which came in the box with my 2015 😑] I'd just as well get it all within the official MSRP than spend extra.
Ideally I'll wait until WWDC by which point we should have a good idea about just what (if anything) is happening with this ARM transition in the next year; whether a 14" Pro is on the cards (not entirely sure I'd get on with a screen smaller than 15.4" but it's worth trying out) and all of the above should also be checked off... I feel like caving to temptation is now a very real possibility though without the awful keyboard as a showstopper!
