Yep that is very possible! However, I stand by what I said... certainly overall those that purchase the Xr are under no delusion that the OLED is better in terms of clarity and vivid colors.. deeper blacks etc. However, not everyone feels it worth it and also OLED creates vision problems for them.

Of course OLED has deeper blacks. For that you get pentile, Pwm flickering, color shifting, burn in and significantly less lifespan. Enjoy those blacks though!!!

Btw the blacks in the XR are black as hell. Blacker than any past iPhone lcd. Really black. As black as anyone would ever need.

But not for everyone.

Yes OLED has the same drawbacks no matter who you are. Some people are ok with 1994 problems like burn in to get those 5% deeer blacks. No one should be, but some are.

Oh yes I forgot about my PWM flickering issues. Thanks for reminding me.

Well I’ve had several phones with OLED displays since 2012 and I’ve not experienced burn in yet.

It’s there weather or not your eyes are sharp enough to detect it
Ok so I’m not getting headaches because my eyes are defective.

Posts of which I stand by. OLED is trash tech that comes with significant drawbacks.

There isn't a single professional display reviewer that agrees with this I've ever seen.
The only pro you quoted was Nilay as your source. You were wrong on that, of course too.

It's an indisputable fact that OLED is far superior due to the contrast ratio and viewing angles (which
you are wrong about).
Do you have some magic gift in display tech logic we should know about?

I’ve said OLED has better blacks and contrast. No one said otherwise. It’s worse in a ton of other things. But it has those blacks.

Reviewers are just people. They aren’t any more experts than you. They are winging it like everyone else in life. So do your own research and trust your own eyes.

Sounds like you are trying to justify your purchase by bashing the other models.

Nah not really. I could buy any phone I want. Went with XR due to drawbacks of OLED tech. Micro LED will be along shortly.

I hate to say it, but I agree. The display wasn't that great. I bought the XR because:
  1. I wanted 128GB. 64 is too small, 256 too much, 128 is just right.
  2. The coral looks like orange in the picture and that's my favorite color.
  3. That is a handsome price savings over the other Xes.
  4. The battery life sounds awesome.
I returned it because:
  1. I decided I could live with 64GB.
  2. The battery life will be good enough. I'm coming from a 6S, for chrissakes. The worst iPhone ever.
  3. I thought I would like the coral. It looked pretty orange to me, but to Apple's credit, it is coral, which has way too much pink. I thought I might like the blue, but an employee at a Verizon store showed me the blue, it was too light. If I kept the XR, I would have exchanged it for white. (If you always got silver iPhones, get the white; space gray, get the black.) The only color that probably works, IMHO, is the red.
  4. The display was a disappointment. It didn't wow me. In fact, my screen saver looked terrible compared to my 6S.
  5. I don't like big phones. The sizing up is oh, so incremental, but at the end of the day, the XR is a big ass phone. I really wanted an SE with an edge-to-edge, super-crisp display.
So, I bought the Xs. The savings to an X wasn't worth it when I read what was actually changed "under the hood". I'm just feeling sad and and a bit ripped off. How did the progression of phones ever get to this price point? I thought about an 8, but I really wanted an edge-to-edge display. Just a smidge smaller in size with a much smaller display and rapidly diminishing value.

What sucks: I was charged a $50 restocking fee. I don't think that is fair when there is NO WAY to see the color of the phone ahead of time. Furthermore, they are stuck on the displays so you can't test it in your pocket or check the weight of it. The only reason I was buying a phone now is because my 6S fried itself on Apple's replacement battery. I took it to a repair place to have the battery replaced again, but it was toasted. Literally.

Nah, they use actual data to support what they say, just as I do.
When my Mom visited me with her S8 for example, I immediately was jealous of the screen lol.
Thankfully OLED came to the iPhone now.

Things you write here aside from PWM, are easily incorrect such as poorer viewing angles and burn in
which you haven't ponied up any evidence yet for on the iPhone X and above.

I said color shift not viewing angles. Tilt your phone slightly and see it turn colors neon blue.

The only data screen people use is white point.

Burn in reports are all over Reddit go look it up.

I'm glad my OLED has pentile, pwm, flickering, colour shifting, burn in etc because that nice little cocktail gives me the best screen i have ever seen on a smart phone...those 1080p 60fps HDR movies are soooooo mmmm mmmm mmmm

P.S 1994? how does 1,792 x 828 sound? that's about right for that year.

That year more would be about 640x480. That screen had potential burn in just like yours.

Yes, I see a slight blue tinge if I tilt my Max to an angle I would never view the phone at.
That's your fuss about OLED or is it you really don't want to spend $999+ even if you have it?

Side by side, with my 6S Plus, my XS Max screen just looks so much more alive.
I see it easily, and many here can, as do plenty of buyers.

Burn in as far as i can see is no issue. My iphone x had none after a years use. I never keep a phone for more than a year anyhow.

Yeah better than 6s. Maybe not XR. XR has way better lcd than even my 8+ When it comes to colors and vibrancy.

Burn in: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/7naag9/iphone_x_burn_in_already/

And yeah that color shift is amateur hour.

You also haven’t addressed shorter lifespan.

Oleds are more yellow as well and will yellow over time even more.

Idk colors don’t look much more vibrant either...this display looks so bad on the YouTube app it’s honestly disgusting me every day and I cannot wait to return it Friday.

Not all apps yet optimized for the XR

LCD panels have off an axis drop in colour accuracy as well along with a drop in contrast ratio. You are right both OLED and LCD have drawbacks. Just at this point in time the best Phone panels being made are in fact OLED and im not just talking about the blacks.
