MacBook 5,2:

mb_battery.jpg

My battery keeps jumping from around 64%-84% even after calibration. I see a new battery in her future :)

Well, I reached 60 months (5 years) sometime this month and the screen is beginning to flicker. Sometimes it (the screen) is a little dim until you open it just right so I think I'm going to upgrade when the new MacBook Airs come out. I thought about getting a second iPad but a laptop more suits what I need at this time. Any guesses on the ETS of the new Airs?

wow, so many old macbook still doing great, i sold my 5 year old macbook just march 2011, great little machine bought it on Sep 2006.

it will be sad, when Macbook is discontinued on WWDC 2011.

Current Macbook (last of the original white ones) is 23 months old. My previous Macbook was the first one (early 2006), and it's still kicking - albeit without a working screen. Not sure what the life of it in months is, but it's pretty dang old.

MacBook white, 2006 - 52 months, 89%, 58 cycles.
Battery was changed year ago since old one didn't work.

very well with all these Data.

but with the various technique in charging found from googling. what is the REAL IDEAL way to use/charge the battery?

i have the luxury (if counts as luxury) of removing my MB5,1. but i have stopped removing the battery from home use. (just lazy and it did affect the boot time strangely enough)

i generally plug in to the mains when i can. and Fully discharge at least once a month. sometimes charging it when the machine is totally off (Faster Charge) sometimes whilst it is in use (Slower Charge), Fully charge from dead, i mean totally dead and leaving it dead for a few hours. But now running off an OCZ V2 SSD in optibay requiring Hiberation to be OFF. it becomes a little challenging trying to run til the battery fully dies without losing data... not life or death but something else to consider.

I thought charging from less than 50% is one cycle. Can anyone verify please?

anyways, my point is how to take good care of the battery?
with these data from coconutBattery, can an ideal method of charging and discharging the Macbook's battery be summarised to minimise battery capacity decrease overtime due to charge mishandling

for me i have a relative low cycle, but capacity is only 90% as seen below.:eek::apple:

and what is the best state to keep an unused Li-ion battery? half charged or fully charged? i know for a fact definately not flat/dead battery for storage.

Pretty good for so many cycles :)

I guess I got a good deal. I was a PC/Linux guy until two weeks ago. I bought a late 2007 Macbook off a co-worker for $500 even. He had upgraded it to 4 gigs of ram and a 320 gig HDD. I fired up Coconut Batter any it tells me I have a Macbook 3,1 that is 40 months old with 91 load cycles and 98% current capacity. From the results I've been reading that is not too shabby.

I've had mine for 37 months (replaced the battery once and kinda want to pop in my old one to see what coconut battery says about it). Slowly realizing there is no reason to replace my machine. It has gotten a little laggy lately. At this point I usually bring it into the Apple Store to get cleaned up but my Apple Care expired. I'm thinking about upgrading the RAM though.

I got my Macbook about 31 months ago. It was one of the first batch to release with a Alu Unibody.

One question. Spec wise, its still holding up very well (except when playing anything with Flash which makes it turn into an airplane) but is showing some general wear and tear.

Is there anywhere in the UK who will re-furbish my macbook for me to make it look newish again ans fresh? Im guessing it's something Apple dont offer.

My is not doing so great. Does anyone know if apple will replace the battery if its not performing like its suppose to? They claim 1000 cycles / 80%. Not from what I am seeing.
