How To: Change a 2GB data plan to unlimited!

I'm in the same boat here. I got the text message but my online account still says the $20 plan. I tried adding the $30 online but got the same message everyone else said. Hopefully it changes but it says my next billing cycle starts tomorrow but I just became a new AT&T member when I got my iphone about 4 days ago???

OK, but why would they switch you to the unlimited iphone 2G data plan and not one of the current iphone 4 data plans? If you did this, were you able to verify that you had been switched to the grandfathered data plan? How does this show up online or on your bill?
 
My MMS stopped working :(

Some of you might want to recheck yours. Mine WORKED and stopped the next morning.

I would like to know if the above works as well, I thought it only works with iPhone 2g?
 
Called AT&T. A rather old sounding women helped me. She was forwarding me to the iPhone department after looking over some stuff and I guess she did something because it works now.
 
I finally got the text message update notifying me that my iPhone has been changed to an appropriate plan. I also got an email too.

This is what you will need. You will need any dumb phone's IMEI number.
I just did this yesterday night and it happened within 3 to 4 hours.

First, call 611 from your phone and enter all the necessary info and then press 0 to connect to a rep. Tell that rep you need to activate a different device (dont worry, you r not) on the line you are calling about. They will ask for the IMEI number so give them the IMEI number of a dumb phone. Dont worry, you dont really need that phone with you. Once they "take off" iphone 4 from your account, it automatically takes off data plan connected to the iphone. Now, before you hang up, tell the rep that you want to add $30 UNL web,text and email plan on that line, They will gladly add that for you. Once that done, hang up and just chill. Just keep that sim in your iphone 4. make a call or two and wait for 3 to 4 hours. You will get a text saying that you are using an iphone and your data plan has been changed. Now this will add UNL data for iphone for $30 and UNL text for $20. if you do not need text like me, just log into OLAM and take texting off like i just did, And now you will have UNL iphone data $30 plan without even getting an iphone 2g.

If anyone here wants to get a dumb phone IMEI, i have it. just PM me and i will help you out...

Ok so I called at&t to do what you said.

1 - She asked me if I had the sim for the non smart phone - what do I say? In the post I've quoted of yours, you say "just keep that sim in your iphone 4". Even though I would give her the IMEI number and sim number of the non smart phone, I would keep the micro sim in mine?

2 - I'm on a family plan. We already have unlimited messaging. She said unlimited data on a non smart phone is $15. She said that $30 doesn't exist (even for non family plans) on non smart phones.

So do I need to get the $15 plan? She said once I use my iphone it'll go right back on the account, which does seem to support your idea of this loophole.

I just did what "gadget" tried and I will report back if it completes successfully.

I got off the phone with ATT and now just waiting on the data to switch over to unlimited.

i just posted above. $30 dumbphone plan is not just a data plan, it includes unlimited text, pics and data.. The one she is talking about is data only. I have tried with the $15 data plan but it didnt work. it only works with the plan i screenshot above.

And yes, u will give her the same micro sim number if she asks.

What about the sim cards? Do I give her the sim card for the dumb phone? (Thanks for your help btw)

Call from another line not the one you are going to switch.

I am a family plan as well, but don't have unlimited messaging only 200 text messages on my primary line which is the iphone. I just used my old flip phone and told the guy I am going on vacation for a long time and need to use this phone with unlimited data. He added the $10 data, but I logged in and changed it to the $30 unlimited and completed the change. Now the sim card is back in my iPhone waiting for it to switch over.

good. Now make a call from your iphone 4. Within 2 to 3 hours you will get a text. once you do, go to OLAM and check out the Grandfathered unl iphone data plan. They will also add UNL texting to your line. If you dont need it, take that off...

Gadget where you able to go on the internet after getting off the phone with the rep on your iPhone? I popped the sim back into the iPhone from the dumb phone and did all the changes, but I can't load a page in Safari it says

"could not activate cellular data network", "You are not subscribed to a cellular data service".

I'm guessing I have to wait a few hours for the att network to detect that I am using the iPhone and not the dumb phone for it to start working again?
 
I'm on a family plan and just checked a different line on OLAM that had a dumb phone. It didn't give the option for $30 data. It said $20 messaging.

Gadget is this what you saw when you logged into OLAM? This is what mine says, I didn't get a text yet and it has been 15 minutes since the change.

So just hang out and it will switch on its own, even though the $30 unlimited isn't listed in the screenshot below?

just follow this...

turn on wifi..
go to help.benm.com
click on tethering
scroll down and click on USA
select ATT
click on download and then install.
That's it You will be online again.
This happens cause OLAM still does not know you have iphone 4 on a dumbphone plan.

yup thats exactly how it looked. just chill now. it will switch over in a few hours.

SO you already have dumbphone "activated" in the system right? If yes, go to OLAM, and then you will need to pick this feature and add it to your line. Btw, i have a family plan with 4 lines..
