ok so i loaded first itunes 8.2 beta on mac. reinstall carrier file then reset device. im on beta 5 still and mms works also tethering as im using now to use net. i will install gm 3.0 in 20 min and see if mms still works.

update: i installed gm release with all features working. mms and tethering

I have a question and I did all of this already:

The cellular data network option has shown up and I can can input values. However before I do that, if I go into messages by itself it says "mms messaging requires phone number" "press settings to go to iphone settings and enter your phone number".

Should I just do that? Or do I need to still input those cellular data network settings. which should i do

I second or third the notion of making an FAQ on this process...I am not a dev and it would be nice to see one downloadable file with instructions for us clueless folks who want to get our money's worth from AT&T, who have been known to eat babies.

Just sayin'.

visual voice mail

Can someone tell me what the network settings are for visual voicemail?

I am on 3.0GM with the carrier update for tether and mms.

Thanks!!

I have a question! My family plan has my brother and mom on it, both who do not have iPhones. Now they can send pictures to each other. Does this mean my phone should be ready for MMS next Wednesday because people on my family plan can already send pictures?

Having problems, let me try to break it down for you guys and see if I didnt screw something up.

I updated my phone this morning from 2.2.1 to 3.0 GM with the newest version of iTunes. After I saw all this MMS/Tethering stuff, I decided to try.

I followed the instructions and moved iTunes into the trash, emptied the trash, restarted my computer and installed the beta 2 version of iTunes linked too in this thread. I also downloaded the ATT bundle file linked to. When I try to option + update, the ATT file is greyed out. Not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

I have attached a link to a screenshot to show greyed file and version of iTunes. Thanks!

Did you download the .ipcc file through Safari or another browser? Also, try removing .zip from the ATT_US.ipcc.zip I have mine as ATT_US.ipcc

My guess is you just dragged iTunes to the trash. Run the whole removal script from Terminal, it needs to remove info from other places too. Then you need to install a version older than 8.2 pre-release. From my understanding, the pre-release is only an update and requires a previous version. (I found 8.01 here: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...iTunes8/061-5649.20081008.hji9O/iTunes801.dmg)

Then, once 8.01 is installed, update with the 8.2 pre-release.

Once that is done, connect your phone, sync and such then you should be able to option-update and pick the ipcc file.

Make sure your iTunes version says 8.2bX (<-- mine was b7; I didn't use the one from this thread) and you *should* be good to go.

I haven't been able to send MMS yet, but I am not sure if that is a problem with the settings or with the recipient :). Tethering works GREAT, which is all I needed.

I have a question: am I free to upgrade to iTunes 8.2 full now? b7 seems kinda iffy. I think it tried to sync and backup too often.

Hope that helps!

KS

Ok well that WAS the problem. Just had to remove the zip it seems. I can now see it and select it, but when I try to update I get an error.

attached the screenshot of the error message, maybe someone recognizes it?

Unplug the iPhone from the USB and connect it again I think is what the problem.

I am not responsible if my advice is incorrect and causes damage to you or your phone of any nature

Tethering

I tried to set up tethering in the network menu, but now the option disappeared. Anyone else have this problem?

I have had that problem when I try and get MMS working. Once I get those settings in, the Tethering has a tendency to disappear eventually. Since tethering is WAY more important to me, I'll forgo MMS for now. BTW, I am on AT&T US.

I followed these instructions, but I received an error when trying to send.

I then did an online chat with ATT and it fixed it. I now have MMS! Here is my convo;

Me: Hi Lawrence, I am a developer for the iPhone and I need you to remove the mms opt-out codes on my account

Lawrence Skellington: Good afternoon and I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with your iPhones MMS feature addition. I will be happy to assist you with this and in order to assist you, may I access your billing account records?

Me: Yeah

Lawrence Skellington: This is a secure channel. Please provide the following information:

1-The wireless phone number you are inquiring about, area code first.
2-The first and last name as listed on the account.
3-Your full name.
4-The last four digits of the Social Security # or password listed on the account.

Please bear with me while I access your account. Once I have the information it may take me 1-2 minutes to complete this.
Thank you.

Me: ...........

Lawrence Skellington: Thank you. Please give me 3-4 minutes to add the MMS feature to the billing account.

Me: OK, thanks alot

Lawrence Skellington: You're welcome and sorry for the delay as the billing system is giving me an error message. Please bear with me while I attempt to resolve it.

Me: OK, no problem

Lawrence Skellington: I have updated the back end systems for MMS for the iPhone and unfortunately, since it will not officially be available until sometime this summer, there is no way for us to test it out.

Me: ok, sounds good.

Me: thanks

Lawrence Skellington: You're welcome.

Lawrence Skellington: Other than your MMS issue, is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Lawrence Skellington: By the way, if you have any additional questions about your device, you may want to access our self-help device tutorial site at: www.att.com/tutorials .

Me: That is it, thanks alot Lawrence

Lawrence Skellington: You're welcome.

Easy as that!

Ok still getting that error message. Have tried restarting, unplugging first.

Then tried removing itunes completely through terminal, installing 8.01 then updating to 8.2b7 (10), but no dice.

Any other thoughts?

maybe the .ipcc file is messed up in some way?

Where did you find the online chat option? Do you have a link?

Here is the link;
https://www.wireless.att.com/olam/dashboardAction.olamexecute?target=TC

I'm obviously on ATT, 450 minutes, 200 text messages per month, unlimited date.

I followed the steps in this thread;
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/714535/

Big YMMV:

Big YMMV on this just had one rep tell me the following:

Cassie Steele: I am sorry that the iPhone does not support the MMS at this time. Apple has specifically advised us not to add it under any circumstance at this point. They have not officially announced that MMS will be on 3.0 and that the development kit has a way to test it without our network.

Me: Hmmm while thats true with the simlator I'm needing to test my application on an actual phone per apple's best practices

Cassie Steele: I apologize but you will need to contact Apple if you are a developer. Please contact Apple iPhone Support by calling 800-694-7466. Their hours of operation are 8am to 8pm CT daily.

Me: Apple told me I needed to contact AT&T Cassie; is there anything you can do for me?

Cassie Steele: I apologize but there is not anything that we can do. We were instructed by Apple to not at this feature.

Me: Thank you for your time.

I'm trying again with another rep...once I'm through the queue
