How Will You Spend The Stimulus Money?

Does anyone know when the IRS online portal will be up to enter banking info for those that pay by paper checks ???

Thanks, but that link is for non filers.

I'm a filer - I file every year but I pay every year so I use a paper check.

I heard that the IRS has a portal to enter banking info to speed up the stimulus check...

The first link is for non-filters. The second link ("Economic Impact Payments") has a box on the right:
"Filers: Get Your Payment"

In that box is a placeholder button "Get My Payment (coming mid-April)". It's not a live button as I type this, but "mid-April" is Wednesday, so there's still time.

I suspect that the 2nd link will be worth monitoring. If the IRS has a different portal page, then I would bet they'll announce it on their News Releases page, which has a link at the left side of the "Economic Impact Payments" page.

Even with having half decent savings, we will still save it until this is over. Will try to buy from the smaller businesses since they don't have the capital to weather this like the evil corps.

When I think of the word ‘stimulus’, it really is intended to be spent or reinvested into your local economy to help boost businesses during a financial decline. However, the ‘survival-mode-aspect’ for average consumers is to save this money, because they themselves know/fear their job might be in jeopardy where they don’t have extra money XYZ months from now. So I really think it’s a ‘double edged’ sword in terms of how someone decides to spend this money (Or save), considering there’s so many variables unless you have Job security that’s guaranteed as I mentioned before. Either way, until things can ‘shape shift’ to someone stabilize, saving is definitely the first consideration for a [large] amount of consumers, especially those with families/mortgages, etc.

Ah, this is what I was asking about.
Can't wait to have it go live!

Thanks!

And I'm already doing this. By not having to fill my gas tank 2x a month ($40 per fill-up) AND by not having to pay my gym dues, I'm going out to eat a couple extra times and focusing on locally-owned establishments rather than chain locations. My $100/month isn't much, but it's SOMETHING.

We trying to patronize a small local restaurant each week. We have two requirements:

1. If they deliver, we have to be able to add the deliveryperson's tip to the online order. We're not going use services that require "manual" tipping in person.
2. If they use pick-up, they need a pick-up area where it's easy to maintain distances, and if you pay during pick-up then they must accept contactless payment, i.e., Apple Pay.

Props to you. If everybody shared your mindset on how you’re dividing your finances rationally in your community based off your Expenses, it would make a huge impact. But I understand not everybody has additional funds either to dispersed throughout various businesses given the situation.

@Doctor Q

Same here. Most of these delivery service apps have everything conducted where the user doesn't have to have any face-to-face contact with the delivery driver. I’ve been really impressed with some of these food delivery service Drivers, with their communication, courtesy of being detailed with their delivery status, even provide a picture of where they left the order in case there’s any confusion with the directions through the app. Some of these driver services hold drivers to a higher standard, which is much needed, Given they do deliver essential items to homes, where I think the drivers play a crucial role helping restaurant/grocery stores to be a direct link to families, so solid execution is key.

Totally agree with this but maybe for a different reason - I don't have small currency for tipping. You're probably aware but GrubHub allows for for tipping in advance, and allows for contactless delivery but in my area the local establishments available are limited. I chose that option on Friday but had to ask the person to put the delivery in a different spot than my porch because it was so windy, still maintaining a distance.

Thanks. I know my parents are doing the same, my brother is, and I think my sister is as well (though she actually has to go to work still). I also posted my plan to Facebook (partially in an effort to find places) and I think several others are doing it.

Have never seen #2 :(. Closest is if they have an app or website that does the entire payment process, and all you do is take the food.

Love GrubHub for contactless but I wish they could/would read the extra instructions. "Lot closest to light at ABC Ave on same side as shopping center. Building at back of lot. First Floor." There's no other lot that matches those criteria, but almost every time on the screen, they are going into every other lot, and then they finally call. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!! Why even let me enter them?!?!

I kind of wish the estimated delivery time was better. My order was estimated at 60-70 minutes and finally arrived 90+ minutes after ordering. I realize it's an estimate, but I ordered at 4:30, it shouldn't take until after 6 to get food!!

It's usually ok for the time for us except for the fact they can almost never find it and have to call. The crazy one here is that every Chinese is closed except for this one Asian Bistro, so their time is always ridiculous.

Is this not the correct site to enter one's bank account info to receive a direct deposit for those that paper file each year ?

WTH ???

i am going on a cruse ship of course

So... you're putting it in savings for now? Cruises aren't happening for a while, despite what the cruise lines want you to believe.

I would love nothing more than to book a cruise, and I had been looking at them as recently as late Feb., but I've resigned to the fact that it's just not happening this year.

When I checked my email this morning, there was one from my bank announcing that a direct deposit had been made by the US Treasury......bingo! The Stimulus Payment has arrived. Nice to have, even though I have no immediate plans for spending it.

Just a coincidence, but it's worth noting that it arrived on the day that U.S. tax returns are normally due.

Yeah, I noticed that! Someone has a great sense of humor, if it were planned that way on purpose! Well, I did my income tax return back early in March, prior to when everything got really serious with the pandemic, and before the filing schedule was changed. My refund arrived just a couple of weeks later, unusually speedy, as normally it takes around three weeks or so. And now I've got this nice little extra "gift" from the federal government.....

Well, I thought my wife and I would be included today, but not yet. I have always filed our tax returns, and in fact, filed our 2019 return a few weeks ago. Almost all of our income is via Social Security, which we have been receiving since 2006. So, both the IRS and the SSA have had our direct deposit information for quite some time.

Fortunately we're not desperate for the funds, but it will be nice.

Some people started seeing their deposits over the weekend. Some banks ignore the date the deposit is supposed to be issued and put the money in the customer's account as soon as they get it while others "sit" on the money and probably earn interest on it. This happens with paychecks also, some people see their deposit Wed. or Thurs. while others get theirs on Friday when they're supposed to (today is a pay week for me also, not sure my account has EVER seen so much money in it!!).

Got my direct deposit. Just fully paid off my credit card. Some of it goes to rent next week (paycheck). Not much else this check is going to do.

I have no idea how this pittance is going to help my friends who aren’t lucky enough to still have a job. No clue at all...it’s one month’s rent, if that.
