Sprint needs this phone to sell sell sell sell....I think it's gonna go for $199/2 year contract.

And yeah Sprint has the best price on plans than the other 3.

Sprints coverage map sucks.... And the Touch Pro 2 is 299 AFTER a 100 dollar MAIL in rebate. So you pay 399 upfront. Screw that! They will want the same with the Evo.

Their 3g network is 4x bigger than At&t. I guess you have inside info since you already know the price of the Evo?

Why yes I do! I can also predict your future and your favorite color. ;)

HTC makes the touch pro 2.... EVO is made by.... EVO specs are amazing....Just connecting the....

Their 3G network is 4x bigger than AT&T? I don't believe that.

Don't say that, dude...You're scaring me. I am not ready to spend $800 in one day on phones!

I know! I have two phones to buy and an etf to pay if I want that phone. The plans look great for me and the Mrs, but when I say the price of the TP2, I knew right then and there the EVO will be the same. I can't afford 800 plus etfs to join Sprint. Also looking at their coverage maps, looks lame. Well lame unless I roam. It's a shame because I like this phone and Sprint has GREAT deals with their plans.

Apple doesn't care about phones like this, or probably most recent smartphones, because they're not competition for the iPhone. I lust after phones such as the EVO but my wife, son and pretty much everyone I know who owns an iPhone is perfectly happy with it and would very much frown on any addition, especially unneeded complexity, such as that multitasking and the like would bring. The iPhone isn't really a business phone and it's not really a power user phone which means it's not really competition and Apple will lose such a small percentage of it's customers to phones like that they couldn't care less about it and certainly won't put any real money or effort into meeting or surpassing hardware and software specs like this.

Sprint alone is strike one, Slingplayer doesn't exist for android, strike two and it's MLB At Bat doesn't stream live game video...strike three, it's out. As much as I dislike Apple I'm stuck with the iPhone at least until fall brings out the new WinMo 7 line of phones.

Oh yes they certainly do. How else do you explain their current lawsuit against HTC? Steve Jobs is even quoted saying that HTC is their competitor.

They have all three of those for WM7s?

So far it looks like AT&T is introducing android phones that have been dumbed down(so to speak). Do you think Apple has anything to do with this so the iPhone will be the best phone on their network? Maybe it's a deal between the two, to keep the iPhone exclusive to AT&T.

HTC maybe, superphones like this...I can't see it. I just can't imagine sinking that kind of money into hardware and software to please 10% of 1% of all iPhone users plus it would drive the price into the stratosphere, pushing more potential customers away. I haven't seen said lawsuit but it's Apple, they could simply be trying to slap HTC into it's place. Wouldn't be the first time for either company. I'd say the Motorola Backflip is more competition for the iPhone than the EVO because it (supposively) makes it real easy to do a handful of things while these kinds of phones can do almost anything but rarely is it easy to do anything.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they're available for WinMo7 before they are for android. MLB At Bat says Android doesn't suppport streaming video so they're not even trying (NBA's app streams live games), Sling Media takes forever to do anything but given the popularity of Slingplayer for WinMo, Microsoft will probably push them along and write half the app for them. I so wanted to buy a Nexus when it was available for AT&T's 3G and I even thought about buying the Motorola Backflip but I ended up with neither because of those two apps. And then I did some more reading and started seeing all the problems people have been having with both phones. Phooey. If I'm going to drop a wad of cash on a half baked phone, it'll be one with decent 3rd party support.

Haha, MLB At Bat doesn't know what they are talking about then. Here's one example http://lifehacker.com/5362568/ustream-broadcasts-interactive-video-on-android I wonder why they won't do it... Maybe next year. The first MLB At Bat for iPhone didn't do the streaming. It only had highlights. I bought the first one but then when I found out they had a new version every year I quit.

As for Sling... I just found this http://gizmodo.com/5496896/slingpla...ing-this-summer-will-stream-over-wi+fi-and-3g Is that what you're looking for? I don't have a Slingbox myself.

Well, Sprints roaming is done on Verizon's network... and we all know about there map.

Funny, cause my Hero came with SprintTV.... pretty sure thats streaming, and how do you think Youtube gets to the phone... streaming. ;)

Which ever one you get only 3rd party support one needs is Xda Devs...

What may seem like "cutting edge" and "feature overkill" today.. will become mainstream 9-18 months from now. And prices fall very quickly as this technology becomes mainstreamed.

Two years ago, 3.2" 480x320 screens were the cutting edge. Now they look obsolete and inadequate. 1Ghz ARM processors are also becoming the norm. Just look at WP7S hardware requirements - they already mandate 480x800 as standard resolution. So technically, this disqualifies current iPhone from being advanced enough to run WP7S.

Apple can't just sit on their 2-3 year old obsolete hardware and expect being competitive. I am very interested to see what they come out with this summer. They may have painted themselves into a corner with thousands of apps written for 320x480 resolution screens. Now, they are stuck with a form factor that's broadly considered obsolete, even by non-geek consumers.

Oh, and btw, Sling Player has already been announced or Android.

I know android supports streaming video, that's why I posted that MLB isn't even trying when they announce that their app doesn't do it because android doesn't support it. You're not telling me anything new. I took it with a big grain of salt but I've also heard a rumor, more than once, that Apple paid off MLB to not support live video on other platforms so the iPhone maintained an edge. Seems kind of silly but knowing how these companies behave, it wouldn't surprise me in the least. Also, Sling Media announced Slingplayer for iPhone and it then took over a year for it to actually reach Apple, 3 more months to reach the app store. Before that it took them forever to get to market with Blackberry and before that it took them forever to get to market with WinMo. So when it comes to both companies and both apps, I'll believe it when I see it and not a moment before.

Finally, of course Apple isn't going to keep the iPhone exactly the way it is forever. My point was that Apple has a totally different agenda than do other phone companies and I can't see Apple pouring tons of money into R&D for upgrades that 95% of iPhone users aren't going to care about. They'll upgrade what hardware they can to stay within a certain price range and upgrade the system enough keep people interested just like they did last year and that'll be enough for almost everyone. A tiny percentage of users will stamp their feet and threaten to buy something else and who cares? Go buy something else if that makes you happy...and you can afford it. For me, and a lot of other people, it all ties together with the apps. Sure I'd like a superphone that lets me run a dozen things at once without missing a beat with wifi speeds and so on but since they're not going to be running Slingplayer or playing live baseball video any time soon, Apple wins. At least for the time being.

Heh, oh yeah, I just saw this "Do not support closed computing and corporate censorship - switch to Android!" above. Uh...have you checked out the Backflip? It's as closed, corporate and censored as any other high end phone and google is just another large, intrusive for-profit corporation. There's nothing wrong with that, everyone needs to put dinner on the table, but it's undeserved sense of entitlement might be second only to that of Kevin Federline.

I'm so upset the more I look at video and pictures and read up on the evo I look at my iPhone screen and just wonder how much better the evo could be:.. As well as is there even the slightest chance that the new iPhone can compete with that hardware, software and customization of the evo.

Apple needs to allow for themes in iTunes, multitasking like palm txt messaging without closing ur programs, and front facing camera and a **** ton more lol

chances are I'm going to sell my 3gs for the evo...

I'll probably sell my Nexus One for the EVO this summer if Apple doesn't impress me, which chances are slim.

Not true! I have a hero right now and its far from a brick. :p

Thats a bold statement. How many people have 'smart' phones these days compared to when the iPhone was released? People want features, and they want them to be new and innovative. Apple used to be that company, not so much anymore... :( Now, i have never owned an iPhone, but i never needed to. WinMo cellular w/ wireless tether, and a jailbroken ipod touch. Same thing... Well now its an Android phone w/ wireless tether, and the same ipod touch.

Yes, but for many others, jail-breaking and such just isn't their cup of tea. For the average consumer, that soaks up much of what the masses tell them, the next iPhone will be a hit. If only to serve as the next device to hold their dozens of already purchased iTunes music and App Store apps.

You are very right about the features that people want, but many are willing to wait for Apple, even if for no good reason than the HOPES and DREAMS of what they'll come out with.

Sorry, I was refering to the model for Windows Mobile 7 :)

No problem.

huh? The Evo is a Sprint exclusive and its an Android phone, not Windows. You must be confusing this with the HD2 or TP2

We are talking about the same phone here. I already said the Evo was a Sprint exclusive, but the phone that it's been pulled from has already been out for months around the world, and just recently on AT&T.

The Evo and HD2 are the same shell.

Sprints coverage map sucks.... And the Touch Pro 2 is 299 AFTER a 100 dollar MAIL in rebate. So you pay 399 upfront. Screw that! They will want the same with the Evo.

Places like Best Buy will take care of the rebate and sell it for the $299 price - same as an iPhone. Lets not forget the real price in a phone is the contract though.

I have two ETFs to pay and the cost of two new EVOs for the wife and me. I figured i'd sell the 3GS for 480 and 3G for 380. That's 860- 350 for ETFs leaves me with 510. If the EVO is 399 each, upfront...minus the 510 and considering w/tax i'd be around 830.....I'm 320 out of pocket for two new EVOs. Then I score the rebate in 8 months which makes total cost 120 to join Sprint with EVOs.

This way seems to be cheaper for me simply cause neither of us are upgrade ready on ATT until December and Feb, so when the new iPhone comes out, i'd have to pay full retail in order to get one...which I am not willing to do. I'd be over 1k.

I disagree with the first part, but you are quite correct about the latter point. Apple has the biggest heard of 'sheeple' around.

Yeah, I have almost the same deal EXCEPT my full upgrade is in August yet my contract runs till August 2011. I don't understand that but ATT said it's legit. I am not sure what the etfs will be for the wife and me, but I would go through Best Buy again for the instant rebate if they do that. Maybe since I got my service through them to begin with and go through them for the EVO, they will cut me a break. What do you think?

That's actually a good idea. Best Buy only offer in-store rebates. Therefore, the 100 will be off right away. I didn't think of that. I was headed to a Sprint store. Does Best Buy get phone right at release? As much as i'd like to stay with Apple, it'll be cheaper for us to move on. Interesting thing is if the EVO sucks...I can sell them, pay sprint ETF and head back to ATT and start a new contract there with new iPhone and pay subsidized pricing....win win
