I really hope the iPhone's screen gets a little bigger. But I really don't know what to expect with the new iphone. On one hand I am thinking the "A+" upgrade is going to have everything under the sun and working flawlessly and just plain awesome. And on the other hand, it's just going to be very minor upgrades that don't "WOW" us like the 3GS from 3G upgrade. I hope its on the later.

You want it to be a crappy update?

I'm wondering if Apple has anything ready that would catch up and pass the EVO... If not, do you think they would release another "baby step" phone like they did with the 3Gs? Or would they hold off and delay an announcement until they feel like they have something that can compete?

A lot of 3G contracts will expire in July so I think they will be under pressure to release something.... On my family plan 2 3G phones expire and 1 3Gs has another year. I will have to decide if I just pay the ETF fee on the 3Gs and switch to whatever if they don't get their act together.

I'm tired of watching out not to upgrade the Firmware and being prevented to restore to any Firmware I like etc....... and paying a ton for unlimited data with all the restrictions on usage.

I just became upgrade eligible this week. I bought my iPhone 3G on launch day. The HTC EVO has really caught my eye... I will be getting a new phone this summer... which company will win me over? HTC or Apple. We will see!

I'm in the exact same boat as you. :)

yep, same here. i'm eligible this year and after seeing the EVO...and knowing how Apple really lacks in the "upgrade" department...I am leaning over to Sprint & HTC EVO.

75% EVO
25% iPhone

I'm honestly going to wait till iPhone 4 is out. I don't think Apple is sleeping on the next iPhone upgrade as many people think.

I obviously could be wrong, but I'm not willing to bet on it till the next gen iPhone is out.

See, I think Apple purposely did a "baby step" with the 3GS so they could really step forth with the 4th Gen (at least that's my hope).

A report today came out saying that Apple is likely to use Samsung Displays for the iPhone. Could it be the new 4" Super AMOLED display that they just came out with?

This summer is gonna be VERY interesting.

And the good news is the EVO won't be out until about then anyway. So waiting can't hurt. I'm going to wait to see what both options are and then buy the best. I just hope the EVO comes out in good timing with my AT&T contract.

While on the subject... Does anyone know how this works? I'm on my first cell contract ever. Do I wait until the 2 years is up and then just pay by month off contract so I can switch carriers without a fee?

with my experience on AT&T (Cingular), once the 2 year contract is up you are month to month and free to do what you will after that... i.e. change carriers, buy a new subsidized phone (thus renewing your contract), stay month to month, etc. Granted, since you and I are ~18-20 months into our current 2-year contract, we can purchase new phones now with the cheapest subsidized price.

I wish we could just fast forward to apple's show so we can just see it and I can make my damn decision already. The waiting sucks.

I'm willing to bet cash money that Apple can not, and will not be able to compete with every feature on the Evo.

Mainly its ability to become a 4G wireless hot spot for up to EIGHT devices!

I thought there was already a leak of the new iPhone, remember when the ipad was leaked a couple of days before it was released that iPhone on top of it was rumored to be the 4th gen.

Look at the second to last pic ithink

I remember that rumor, the sad part is that it looked like it had the same screen size. I know the Evo and even the iPhone and Hero are bricks, but I just love that screen size for web browsing and app usage and picture taking and video viewing.

Again, this phone is a SPRINT EXCLUSIVE! No AT&T, no Verizon, no T mobile....you want it, you need to switch to Sprint ;)

True, the only other carrier that has it is AT&T but they only have the Windows Mobile 6.5 version.

It looks very attractive, and I see that the Windows counterpart will be similar.

True, and to be honest, I hate Windows Mobile, but before I've seen the Evo, I was tempted to just deal with WM6.5.

Same here, but it's not like we could buy the Evo right now. Having the Evo in stores now would be and even more dire situation.

That feature is amazing, and truth be told Apple doesn't have to match the feature set, not even 50% of them. We all know how many features were missing when the iPhone was first released, and people soaked it up. . . for good reason, it was breakthrough then.

If Apple gave the iPhone community multitasking, that'd be enough for many, and what most people are asking for (outside of an entirely new phone/phone design). I personally think the only thing Apple could do besides load features in the iPhone is to put it on another network, which won't happen by June/July.

Not true! I have a hero right now and its far from a brick. :p

Thats a bold statement. How many people have 'smart' phones these days compared to when the iPhone was released? People want features, and they want them to be new and innovative. Apple used to be that company, not so much anymore... :( Now, i have never owned an iPhone, but i never needed to. WinMo cellular w/ wireless tether, and a jailbroken ipod touch. Same thing... Well now its an Android phone w/ wireless tether, and the same ipod touch.

I am not upgrade eligible, but I am getting a new phone this summer. This Evo is looking mighty fine to me. I am so scared to leave the app support iPhone has. So like you, whoever has the best phone this summer gets my new contract. Looks like sprint so far. I hope the Evo comes out before the iPhone therefore I won't have to deal with inventory shortages.

Have you checked out the Android market yet? What iphone apps do you have you just cant live without? Rumored release date for the Evo is June 6th.

No I have not checked out the Droid market. I am going to compare rate plans and see how it would stack up. I pay 145/month for two iPhones on a 900 min fam share. For what the EVO appears to offer, there is no way I need to continue to pay ATT there outrageous plan prices for an iPhone. I could sell my 3GS, pay the ETF and probably have enough left to buy the EVO. Any idea what the subsidized price will be?

Sprint needs this phone to sell sell sell sell....I think it's gonna go for $199/2 year contract.

And yeah Sprint has the best price on plans than the other 3.

I hope Sprint lets me have service again. I loop-holed my way out of an ETF on two lines when the Instinct came out....Ugh what a failure.
