my HOPE (big hope) is that while last year they made some small changes, they've been really hard at work taking the next leap forward.

I think Apple is aware that us "fanboys" are one of the most important customers out there. We're the first to buy, we're the ones that convince many of our friends and family to buy, so I am really really hoping that they plan to come out swinging this summer with something they've been working hard on.

A LOT of phones have emerged in the last few months and they are finally giving Apple a run from a technological perspective. In the end, I still feel that Apple will hold majority market-share simply because they have great stores, great support, and they are just a great top to bottom company. However, with that being said, because I'm a "techie" I am finding these Android phones VERY appealing and I'm waiting to see Apples next move before I make any decisions.

You may have had a point 1.5 - 2 years ago, but that's no longer the case. Android 2.1 with Sense UI on the right hardware comes pretty darn close in "spit and polish" level of the latest iPhoneOS.

iPhoneOS is hardly "superior", if you put it side by side with Android 2.1. iPhoneOS doesn't multitask, the notification system is terrible, the springboard is still circa 2008, there is no support for widgets, home screen is useless, doesn't allow for any customization, doesn't allow for side-loading of apps.. Need I go on?

You basically have to jailbreak iPhoneOS to get half the functionality of Android 2.1 out of the box. So no, iPhone is badly behind both hardware and software wise. Apple needs to wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late.

Very good points! Anyone that says that iPhone os is at the top or the best is in serious denial. Apple has some serious catching up to do this summer or else.

Yep, its give and take... You get free healthcare, we got smartphones first...

Also, I still think its the carriers. Of course they want the best phones to attract more clientele, but do they really want to pay the licensing for every OS/Phone Maker? Probably not...

ROLF!!! hahahaha omg so funny only thing is now ur getting a good health care program too so does that mean we will be getting newer phones faster???
Hahha on the healthcare system broke my finger the other week went to the hospital require plastic surgery on the ligaments getting it all for free!!!

1. Where in the hell would you carry this thing? A briefcase or a man-purse?

It's only 4mm (0.16") wider than the iPhone and 6.5mm (0.25") longer. Still easily pocketable for most trousers. The tiny bezel really helps out here.

Really hope Apple's next iPhone has a 3.7" screen or larger or I'll seriously consider an HTC as my next phone.

All these new phones just make me more excited to see the new iphone in the end. Sucks we have to wait so damn long. Hopefully the time flies by or we get some leaks before then.

I can't wait to drop the iphone already..... ;-)

I would love to get this new phone.

CTIA is awesome. This is definitely the best phone we've seen, and when it hits the market it could be the best around. I wonder what Apple has up their sleeve. Since they released the 3GS, so many great phones have come out. They clearly need to step it up a few notches to take back the top prize. I feel like before phones like this and the Droid came out, Apple really didn't have a good reason to do a total refresh of the iPhone. Well, they do now.

Did you not READ what I posted? :p

HTC was making touch screen phones as early as 2002, Apple did NOTHING new five years later in 2007. Software? You honestly think the iphone has killer software? please...iphone couldnt even handle MMS messaging until recently  Here are a few things it cant do other phones have been able to for years. Correct if there is now an "app" for one of these.

No Bluetooth transfer of media
No message forwarding
No sharing multiple contacts
No custom ringtones
No copy/paste

The hardware isnt too great either as you cant replace the battery or expand the internal memory via SD cards as you can with every other phone on the market for years.

You serious? I phone can handle Message forwarding, custom ringtones, copy/paste.

Free, or paid for out of your taxes?

Maybe the iPhone will instead turn into a Mac?

By that I mean lesser hardware in terms of specs, higher price tag and yet higher quality technologies and software.

I swear this full thread is a bunch of sheep that will run and buy every single one new untested technology out there just cuzz it has 720p recording ability!

The iPhone is fine for what it is and it fits into a pocket easily. The Evo is a show off that will certainly get you many WOWs but after that you’ll find yourself searching for uses for that 720p camera and wondering if you’ll ever see your favorite apps ported to there.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/5.0.18302/1092; U; en) Presto/2.4.15)

That all depends on what your favourite apps are. There are plenty of apps available on both the app store and Android market, some iPhone versions are better, some android versions are better.

Plus you have the taboo apps on Android (emulators, apps that can integrate with the OS like home replacement, sms replacement apps, email, media playback, opera mini) all of which can replace the defaults to your taste.

I do agree that for someone who has invested heavily in the app store, it probably isn't the best just to give up iPhone OS on a whim but for those seeking something different, they can do far worse than the Evo. :)

I swear you're probably one of those sheep that will run out and buy every single new untested technology out there just because Steve Jobs presented it...

I thought there was already a leak of the new iPhone, remember when the ipad was leaked a couple of days before it was released that iPhone on top of it was rumored to be the 4th gen.

Look at the second to last pic ithink

Free, or paid for out of your taxes?

if you pay ur taxes u get it back... plus imagine how much this would cost in the USA...
A) x-ray (x2)
B) blood work
C) drugs
D) MRI
E) surgery

I'm guessing litterally thousands and thousands of dollars.... kind of makes paying a few taxes more to get it all for free...

Not on topic. Let's not get into this here, take that to the Politics forum :)

The unfortunate truth which I stated before is that it's taken 3 years for other companies to catch up to apples insane leap of technology but they have and now are surpassing them.

A foundation was laid for Apple. They didn't invent the smartphone or first touchscreen phone. They were just the first to market it well and make it cool.

I'm still running Palm's very old OS which was out YEARS before the iPhone and performs 90% of what the iPhone does (of course not as many apps) :

I hope it doesn't. It would take up space that can be used for something to actually improve the phone. I know there are a lot of you out there that want this option but would be a waste IMHO.

I want the kickstand!!! LOL but no seriously this phone should be able to go on an HSPDA 3G network... COME TO CANADA IMMEDIATELY!!

Again, this phone is a SPRINT EXCLUSIVE! No AT&T, no Verizon, no T mobile....you want it, you need to switch to Sprint ;)

I think he wants that kick-stand :D

Haha, yea. Kickstand is nice to have but not a dealbreaker...

Anyway, my point was going to be the arguement about saving space is meaningless since HTC was able to put the camera in there as well as just about every other thing I could want in the same device.
