Specs aside I like the look.

I wish all these companies including Apple would just put us out of our misery and make a phone that is all screen with no notches, holes, chins, bezels, or whatever. We could then move on to the next big thing. The brand loyalists constantly bickering with each other is getting old.

Where is the speaker slit for this phone ?
The notch on the iPhone has a speaker slit.

Can’t stand asymmetricality! Ugh! No way! I’ll take the notch any day over that!
Buuut the iPhone with the notch is asymmetrical. Does the bottom of the iPhone have a notch as well? As far as I can tell the top and bottom of the iPhone is asymmetrical. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You could, but there's no reason why you would want to. No one prefers the notch to uninterrupted screen. The question is how to best deal with the electronics that need to be in that spot for the front camera, Face ID, and light sensor. Apple's approach prioritizes functionality, in that Face ID is a much more secure system but one that can't be hidden as easily. It also preserves corner display areas, which for reasons discussed in UI manuals going back to the 1980's are more useful than a center display area. By contrast, the corner-punch approach is better for displaying photos and video but can't accommodate Face ID functionality and will cover some UI elements. One can agree with Apple's choice here without building a "notch-lover" straw man.
There’s enough selfmade straw men that have adopted the notch as an ornament in itself.
Supposedly leading to extra attention, curiosity and even excitement for objects temporarily being covered - thereby reigniting screen-focus to an unprecedented and unforeseen level, changing the whole user experience. You lose a few pixels, but you will get back so much more...blabedieblah
For me, it is the latest design-disaster that falls in the category of mice taken from behind, selfie-stick ApplePencil V.1 and other debris
Better have a chin than all exotic rabbit-ear UI workarounds around something as stupid as the notchzj

Most likely on top of the phone.

Depends how you hold it, in portrait mode you can mirror left/right, not so much in landscape mode.

Please tell me Apple won't follow the trend. Keep the damn notch until you can make a true edge-to-edge display.

But you can't mirror bottom and top in portrait mode. If you can't stand asymmetrical so much then I don't see how that person can like the notched iPhone.

The notch is a stupid design cop out. Hopefully it will die soon.
The punch out is an improvement but it will be in the way of the back button on iOS.

Not sure what the problem is with having a bit of extra bezel top and/or bottom. The notch is a terrible solution looking for a problem.

The hole is a worse solution than the notch. Of course, IMO.

This seems like the worst of both worlds; it's asymmetrical vertically and horizontally without the hardware to make 3D face scanning a security feature to rival Face ID.

And then there's the fact that it still has a chin.
Beats an 8-edged display that the notch provides.

True... but from right to left it is symmetrical. That hole punch would drive me crazy!

Anyway, it is interesting to me that people find the hole punch reasonable... but this is why there are different options. I REALLY HOPE APPLE DOESN'T GO FOR THE HOLE PUNCH!

Psychic!! You took the words right out of my mouth, verbatim.

I thought you would have liked this latest design trend?

I have been calling this the "Sam-hole."

Notch vs. Samhole are interesting competing options for edge-to-edge design failures.

That's what I said.

Yet 10's of millions if not over 100 million have been sold.

All notches are ugly. The small corner notch is like going to the theater and someone's head from standing up is blocking the corner view. Even worse is the the wide notch that's like a bus parked sideways blocking a drive-in theater.

Other companies should shamelessly copy this idea since it's the best notchless implementation so far.
