I find the punch hole is less distracting than the notch. For now, these are the only choices and we just have to overlook and deal with until something new comes out.

Why is the camera hole so badly aligned?

At least Samsung figured out to align it right (altough it looks weird because of the unequal frame width)

Definite improvement over the notch design.
I actually started liking the dual screen solution of the Vivo Next. Not only you get the same "selfie" camera as the main one you have (which will be the best on the phone), but you also get indeed a whole screen display. If Apple did something similar, with their patents for curving the screen, I believe it would look stunning. They will be the only one to have all screen phone without notch, chin etc.

But again, it's kinda uncomfortable having the second display on the other side of the phone, you could be pressing something by accident or idk.

:D
The hole design is worse because:
- Unsymmetric, not good alignment
- no face id
- loudspeaker does not point into ear
- operating system: the notch „disappears“ because it blends with the status bar.

Holepunch = Fail 1

Chin = Fail 2

A one-two combination of Fail does not equal a win. So you speak the truth.

There’s enough selfmade straw men that have adopted the notch as an ornament in itself.
Supposedly leading to extra attention, curiosity and even excitement for objects temporarily being covered - thereby reigniting screen-focus to an unprecedented and unforeseen level, changing the whole user experience. You lose a few pixels, but you will get back so much more...blabedieblah
For me, it is the latest design-disaster that falls in the category of mice taken from behind, selfie-stick ApplePencil V.1 and other debris
Better have a chin than all exotic rabbit-ear UI workarounds around something as stupid as the notchzj

That's just silly -- no one likes the notch for it's own sake. The debate is simply whether it's the right compromise, understanding that some compromise must be made.

For whatever reason, the hole punch design really bothers me. Maybe it looks too much like a BB gun hole or something. It just looks wrong. Whereas the notch doesn’t bother me at all in Apple’s implementation. (The pixel 3 XL is another story...that notch is hideous).

There is a very good reason why US and Japanese governments have ditched using these phones and issued notices thus regarding Huawei & ZTE hardware. You have been warned.

I think that is a cool design...but I think it would really get scratched. Plus i use an iRing or pop socket to hold my phone easily.

Someone should make a screen with a chin/extended notch combo. The chin is important because the very bottom of the screen is impossible to use when holding the phone in one hand. The chin could even have a home button/Touch ID on it. Then they should take the notch concept and force the rabbit ears either side to have a black background so the notch is effectively invisible. Then the remaining usable screen space for apps, videos etc would be rectangular and at a reasonable aspect ratio.

Oh hold on, I've just described the iPhone 8, haven't I.
Bezels, they are so yesterday. :D

The display still has a thicker bottom bezel, known as a "chin," so this still isn't a completely full-screen design

Does anyone saying this garbage believe the iPhoneX onward are fullscreen designs? And why does it even matter? FFS, get a grip people.

And what is this reason? The fact that US was caught spying on Huawei?

If camera placement supposed to be symmetrical? Then why iPhone rear camera placement is so bad?

There is no eye of the beholder, the chin is very obvious. If you’re going to go to great lengths for a “hole punch” camera, how on Earth is there STILL a chin?

Simple.
It's a mid range phone and it has an IPS display. You should do your homework.

From a holistic, rather than purely functional perspective you may see what I referenced.
Or not.

Or maybe just have a small bezel on the edge to hold all the camera gear. When did this become such a bad idea? Until the notch we were all fine with it.

Exactly! No silly blending OLED which cost much more with little to no benefits. This is like the MacBook Touch Bar, it cost ( a lot ) more while offering no functional benefits to majority of the users.

This news thread has the same "problem" as the other Samsung jack thread.

That problem is seeing this from an Apple perspective where there is no choice and Apple's design is take it or leave it.

This is another middle of the range phone nobody will ear about, it isn't even a flagship or close Huawei device. This is a cheap phone, coolness, as in no chin all screen, costs some money.

Buying Huawei products will certainly help punch holes in the Uighurs in Xinjiang.
That makes as much sense as saying that buying iPhones helps to bomb children in Yemen.

Notch (iPhone X) doesn’t only have one camera.
Still though, how this companies can’t figure out to make phones chin slimmer is mind boggling!

Mind boggling enough that an industry with billions going to R&D is still trying. This isn't an easy problem to solve. If it was, it would have been solved.
[doublepost=1545157004][/doublepost]Very little exemplifies that horrors of first-world thinking like comments on stories about cosmetic issues on smart phones. It's actually quite grotesque.
