I am simply blown away by the new Siri

Meet the new Siri, same as the old Siri #sad
 
It's not an internet connection issue, it's Siri sometimes just not bothering to answer.

I don't think they have enough bandwidth allocated yet for these betas. I get this error occasionally, or a slow response, but it almost always works on the second attempt.

It was more about them trying to make it seem like that’s the norm than an anomaly.

lol. I have internet access, 3 connections in fact. I tried this over and over. Everything else I do works, just not this.

It’s ironic, because this happened so much in the past. I’m very hopeful that it will improve, of course 😊

Do you have a VPN connection? I’ve noticed she often fails to answer when VPN is active.
 
It really fails at basic tasks. Trying to get it to send a text message has been problematic. Things that old Siri would understand, new Siri asks for clarification and gets it wrong.

Same here. I just tried to get it to shuffle a playlist of mine, and it played random 90s songs instead. I’m so disappointed.

Everyone keeps saying "it's a beta" and other excuses, but given the amount of time they've worked on this, it should've been identified and fixed during internal/alpha testing.

It will be in beta in September (like Private Relay was in iOS 15). Right now it is an invite-only beta within yet another beta meant strictly for developers.

Apple has always been a crunch culture for development. The alpha testing you are talking about was probably a few weeks and only in the hands of how many employees? Now we have thousands of people hammering on it. Next few months will improve. Have faith.

Im really not seeing the bad results some people are getting. True the new Siri isn't any better than Gemini but I'd argue its now just as good. Every command I throw at it the results are great. Apple really nailed it with this one.

The only thing it wont seem to work properly is music commands which were fine under the old one.

Looks good but was is the main difference between AI Siri on an 8 GB device and 12 GB? Do 8GB devices basically not get Gemini integration?

I couldn't believe it, I then asked how it knew, and to my surprise, it found an old picture scan from 2021 I had taken with the Notes app, understood the table showing different times and periods, and then set the event at the right time. All of this, while crossing the language barrier because I interact with my devices in English, but my stuff's in French. I'm amazed, I can't wait to test it out further.

This is what I was hoping for too, but for now it does not look so. Siri AI is the local model with very deep OS integration, currently using ChatGPT as a cloud-based (and thus much more powerful model) for support with more complex tasks/requests.

As it stands now (iOS 27 DB2), if you ask both Siri AI and ChatGPT the same question, ChatGPT, Gemini and other cloud-based models will give you a much quicker (and often more complete) response. Where Siri AI currently works better is if you try to do something with your personal stuff.

So right now they are complimentary, even though you could probably get away with just using Siri AI with its enabled ChatGPT extension.

Apple Intelligence used to require a minimum of 8GB of memory, but to use the most advanced new on-device model, you’ll need 12GB. The two highlighted features you will be missing at 8 GB is the improved dictation and a more natural-sounding Siri voice. There may be others and that gap will probably grow with future iOS releases.

There is no Gemini integration. 3rd party AI integrations were a Gurman rumor and he was either wrong and completely speculating or it was delayed/canceled. What else is new?

Siri AI is built on top of some of the same model frameworks that Gemini uses, but that is not the same as Gemini integration. Siri AI has no access to your Gmail, Google Calendar, Keep, or other Google Workspace apps. It also uses its own web index, so it will be up to Apple to keep it updated over time. The bones are the same and the responses sound very similar, but they are still completely independent development tracks.

This has been my experience as well, and it's resulted in me just not using the new siri.
 
Hopefully this improves on current Siri. She was kind of a bitch to me during a recent roadtrip:

Me: “Hey Siri. Do Original flavor Slim Jims contain gluten?”

Siri: “Do you want me to ask ChatGPT?”

Me: “No.”

Siri: “Ok, then I won’t.”

And that was the end of it, she was done with me. No Internet search. Nothing. Haha!

P.S. Turns out Slim Jims do contain gluten in the form of malt barley.
