It had better be for the $1,000 minimum price point. No way I'd ever spend that much, plus I don't like the notch at the top of the screen.

Calibration dictates the entire look of an image. A properly calibrated screen, phone or TV, can make or break screen quality. It may not be imoportant for your own usage, and that’s totally fine, but a display is a display. It’s either calibrated to the standard or not.
As a calibrator, I can’t use displays that aren’t calibrated as it’s like soap in my eyes. If I could go back to not being trained to see the difference, I would in a heartbeat. When I’m at a bar I shouldn’t be thinking that the grass looks too green on the football field. Someone help me.

I don't see the point of getting the iPhone 8 over the iPhone X while waiting for the mid-cycle update next year.
I've been using the iPhone 8 exterior design for too long (iphone 6, 6S, 7) so i don't want a 4th year of basically the same phone.
None of the 'issues' people complain about here are issues to me - the notch? Not really, they're more like ears that give me more real estate. Show me a phone that exists in this universe that doesn't have a top or bottom bezel, and i'll believe apple stole screen space from us, until then, its considered additional real estate.
Sure, the iPhone X will be better next year when they update it, no doubt. But the design will also be 1 year older.
I'll enjoy my iPhone X this year, and then enjoy the iPhone 'XS' next year. Have your cake and eat it too.

My point was more that Apple isn’t giving people an inferior display, whether it’s the same panel from an s6 or whatever. All according the DisplayMate, of course.
It’s not the same panel. Just because it comes from Samsung doesn’t mean it’s the same thing.

Why anyone would spend "a few hundred more" on a beta phone that has basically the same internals and more issues than a lower costing proven/reliable phone is beyond me? It's stunning that you can defend the X when I can buy a better version of it next year at a lower price point while you stuck parading around your beta phone that may have developed burn-in by that time. To each their own.

I you got an 8 Plus just got Buy a 6s Plus same design better phone and more durable.
Subjective on what's "Best". Telling somebody that a three generation old iPhone with the 6S is better than iPhone 8 really isn't accurate. Maybe based on your opinionated usage with the 6s , but overall performance, added features and capabilities, the iPhone 8 supersedes the 6S in almost every facet.

My daughter has an 8 and loves it. She came from an SE. The 8 is certainly a great mature phone. But to spend close to a grand coming from a 6s+, I'd have been a bit disappointed. I like the real home button on the 6s+ better, and I use the headphone jack. But camera on the 8 is amazing and it's certainly a speed demon.
Bottom line if you like what you bought that's all that matters. It's great we have so many really good options!
The iPhone I got is the best and I don't understand why anyone would do anything different!

I finally made a change from my 6s plus, not because I had too but because I wanted too. At first I couldn't justify the 8 plus because it's just not worth upgrading to from the 6s plus for the way I use it and I can't see spending that much for an X. I eventually found an 8 plus to X upgrader that sold me his 8 plus 256gb with AppleCare iPhone for $700. That was worth it.
One thing about the OLED screen on the X that concerns me are the reports of headaches and eye strain. I have found myself sensitive to something similar in other technologies like DLP projectors. Hopefully it will become less of an issue as the tech continues to mature.
One good thing that's changed since Steve is that we have a larger variety of iPhone models to choose from. I could never go back to a smaller screen but others love the smaller size.

This entire discussion just cracks me up. If you like your phone, whether a X, 8+, 6s+, SE, etc. then that's great. My kids have 6s's and they love them. My wife has a 6 and is perfectly happy with it. I have an 8+ and love it. Life's far too short to get this worked up about other people's phones.

Yah feel bad for me. My life is incomplete without an X. I’ll just go on a three week vacation on December 15 back packing, staying in a deserted island in Cambodia. Feel bad for me I can’t unlock my phone with my face while exploring the country side of this beautiful country on a motorcycle. Feel bad for me ughhhhh I can’t take it anymore. If only I can make an Elephant Animoji while walking next to a real Asian Elephant. My life is HORRIBLE!!!!!

I dont get the whole beta thing it’s pretty overblown. I mean like you said it’s the same internals as the 8. Only differences are bigger screen, oled and Face ID. And those have been working flawlessly for me. And any problems have been in the minority and no worse off then any new product that’s released.
What’s funny is next year most of y’all will flip flop and praise half the stuff you criticize now.
Because next year they will be much more solid. There is a night and day difference between a TouchID Gen 1 and Gen 2. It will be the same with FaceID next year. It will be instant unlock.
Are you 12?? I could care less about looking "outdated". My 8 plus is a business tool that fits my needs perfectly. And it fits in my pocket. Plus it looks damn good with an Apple red silicone case.
Uhh that’s how it is now...and if your talking about having to swipe up that’s not hardware related...a software update can add that

I like X, I just felt I could wait for version 2 in 2018 hopefully at a lower price and right after the September announcement. As many people I was worried the phone would be really hard to get before the end of the year, so getting the 8+ seemed like the best choice back on October.
The phone is amazing, I still have touchID and I can enjoy the dual camera and the A11 chip. I like X's display more, but True Tone is great on my 8+ and it has the best LCD I have ever had on a phone, so I'm happy.

When you swipe up there is a split second delay before it gets to the home screen. Note in the below example the unlock was at a perfect distance. If you take it from odd angles, the delay increases. I can bet a year's salary that on the next year's iPhone that small delay will vanish and it will be as fast as the TouchID phone on the left
