Lol, oh, you didn't have Apple Care, oopz.

No, I was still under the one year warranty, so I didn't pay a penny for anything to be done.

And better yet, they're compensating me. I don't know what, I'm finding out this week, but I've been advised that it could be anything from iWork (already own it), to an iPod, or free AppleCare.

By damaging your MacBook Pro yourself, you threw every window of opportunity with :apple: out the door, and you're now left with a hefty bill, no matter what route you take.

Best of luck.

They haven't said anything yet. Lets just hope they repair the parts they should have to begin with, and the screen while their at it. :p

OP, what are the specs of your MBP? What speed CPU? 2.4GHz? 2.5GHz? How much RAM is in your computer? 2GB, 4GB, 3GB, 1GB? Does the keyboard still work?

A 2.4 GHz Logic board for your model is around $500-700. iFixit has 1 for $699.

The left IO board is around $100 too.

4GB RAM, 2.4 Ghz, keyboard and trackpad would still work if the plug in the top case worked properly, not forcing me to use duct tape and a dime to hold it in.

They won't repair the screen.. Don't even think about it because you'll just be let down. Infact, they won't repair the rest of the unit until you pay to fix the screen as per their normal AppleCare terms.

^^^^ An entire display assembly. $449.95

^^^^^ New left fan, $49  Maybe cheaper on eBay.

^^^^ Working good condition top case with a new trackpad and keyboard. $169

Total parts cost is around $669. Mind as well round it to $700, and that includes the tools. You could always pay $749 for a Apple refurbished MacBook, or buy a used MB or MBP from Ebay. Just think, if you DIDN'T take your anger out on the LCD screen, you would only be out $220 if Apple wouldn't help. But your model's ogic board is around $500, so DO NOT destroy it. If you do chose to destroy it, run over the disply assembly, and top case and left fan. Do not run over the rest, as it works, and is worth more than $500

I'll see to it.

Those are options I'll have to consider if Apple denies providing me any if all service for my Macbook Pro.

Send it to Apple directly for any repairs. With all my electronics I usually send it in for repairs. They usually do a thorough job, and all parts are readily available at the service center so they don't have to order. It maybe a little slower sending it in but worth it. Local authorized service repair may not have qualify personnel at all, despite the designation. It's difficult to have patience when your computer needs repair but it's vital to keep your patience so other people can do a good and thorough job for you. I've sent in my Toshiba PC notebook to that company a couple of times several years ago and the results were very professional. I would think Apple will give the same results.

The original OP should have send it in.

can't wait to see how this turns out:)

I'm betting about 40 quadrillion dollars we'll see the OP pulling that MBP behind his car

Exactly what we all predicted. They aren't doing ****, except I can get the remainder of my Apple Care refunded.

I think that's what I'm gonna do. I really feel like completely obliterating Macbook Pro, but after buying this: http://go-asus.com/game/ today I feel a little more at home in a Windows environment (What I grew up with, and having build a PC of my own that used XP) and I'm already starting to think straight. I think I'm just going to give my punched out Macbook Pro to a friend of mine who said he'd take care of it better than me.

The end to this short lived saga is going to be developed into a website for a domain I recently purchased "beforeyoubreaksomething.com" which will be a place where people can go to rant and rave about things that piss them off to the point of destruction to prevent happenings like these.

Thank you all for your support and especially the ones who knew from the start that I was a complete dumbass for doing what I did.

Sorry, no laptop car dragging today...

It's hilarious that you're at all shocked that Apple wouldn't help. Apple isn't awesome but even your case doesn't warrant jack from Apple.

All I can say is that some of you folks are posting experiences which are diametrically opposed to what I've enjoyed with AppleCare.

I've had nothing but stunningly great service, and I mean that literally. I've actually tried to talk AppleCare out of one of the resolutions they instituted for a fairly minor backlight issue with my original-issue/out-of-warranty MacBook Pro, they were that generous and I was that stupid-slash-stunned.

At least you got something back.

Maybe, the OP might want to learn that punching a laptop out of frustration can make you look little and that people might take it as a sign of a mental problem AppleCare won't take care of.

OP—If your computer is still under warranty and can be sent back to the manufacturer, just send it back to them. It might have taken longer with Apple, but you would have probably got better repair service than you did with Secant Technologies. I'm sorry that you got such crappy service from them, though; you paid for your MBP to be FIXED, not ruined further.

Punching the computer's screen, though, was a pretty damn stupid thing to do, even if it did require repairs. Now you'll have to buy another laptop—whether that's a PC or a Mac. At least Apple is going to refund your remaining AppleCare.

Sorry to hear about your troubled times with your MBP, dude

I've owned over two dozen Macs and have never had a major problem that wasn't user inflicted thus far (knock on wood).

Once again, Apple scores at the top for reliability. :apple:

I haven't had time to watch the movie, but reading the thread, it sucks that the apple certified repair shop did shoddy work. Until you punched your MBP out of frustration, it could have been proof of shoddy work from that third party... and even though the parts are still there, it's been contaminated with your own damage... And I expect apple to refuse to fix your screen now even if it wasn't working beforehand. (And from looking at the recent posts, looks like that's what apple decided to do..)

Yes, the apple certified repair shop should have done their work and held up their bargain as a certified repair shop .. but doesn't excuse you doing further damage on your own part to the laptop. Sorry you didn't end up having a good experience with your Apple laptop, and that your next computer and support treats you better.

ill agree with you on this one jessica.....a guy freaks out and punches his laptop because a service provider did not repair/damaged his notebook, pretty childish way to handle your anger.

To sum up

guy punches laptop, expects apple care to fix. Doesnt get fixed, angry angry.

I've had great service from Applecare, I've never before been able to just.. drop off a machine, have it fixed free without asking for receipts, date of purchase, where it was bought etc etc. Get a courtesy call usually a day later saying its fixed and to pick it up or if I wanted, have it couriered to me.

User damage = warranty void. OMG that doesn't make sense, I am soooooo confused why that's the case...

At least Apple is refunding him some money.

The video was marked private, not sure what we are supposed to be seeing.

It's self-incriminating evidence that he damaged his own computer.

He thinks by making the video private he can fool Apple.

The problem is that other people already have copies of the video.
