Also, apple could still release an early refresh of SB using dual core, not quad core. perhaps a quad BTO will be announced as available later, or given the spec update during WWDC possibly. The flaws now are with quad cores. Or apple still could shed out new lines and utilize the non defective ports anyway. Despite all this intel crap, I still don't foresee a April update coming after April 5th. What do i know? nothing no one else cant guess on, but just saying

The problem is that even with this latest Intel fiasco, I'm sure Apple will continue to be completely silent on the refresh. Are you certain that the Cougar Point issues only impact the quad cores? Hmmm. That might be good news.

Apple could be in a real dilemma if they've effectively turned off production of the current MBPs and now have to face the Intel issue (assuming the Intel Sandy BooBoo is even an issue). They'll never ship something with a faulty chip set, even if it has zero real impact on users.

OK Ok

Well... First the whole family gathers around almost automatically like as if there is some sort of magnetic energy pull. (You can test this out by saying "I need some privacy so i can open this alone" and asking people to leave the room and they will challenenge you like: "why? I want to see!" which just confirms in everyones mind that this is an event and not just opening some random box.)

The first thing that strikes you when you open it is the symmetry, everything just gives forth a glow and you cant help but smily without even realizing youre doing it. You cant help it. People gathered around can only describe it in ways that border on poetry.

Then when you first pull it out and feel it in your hands it feels so solid.

Everything from the weight to the material makes it feel like its out of this world in the most pleasantly monolithic way.

Once you open it the screen and body ratio and overall ergonomical totality is just breathtaking and soothing like eye candy. Its the best toy ever.

..... I need to go change my boxer briefs

Exactly, only time will tell but waiting SUCKS, new vid games, new macs, any news, etc.. seems to keep getting delayed, run into problems, longer refreshes, etc.. I mean wow, if apple is ceasing production on current mbp/ part orders and now this , what going to happen. i can't wait till this semester of school is over come last week in April. All of this should be behind us

hey guys, i chatted with intel again and also apple.

Intel says the investigation is going to see exactly which chips will be affected, how much so etc.. but sounding like huron river is also a victim.

Apple- surprisingly i didnt get the " im sorry we do not have any info etc.. or cant discuss this..."

I repeatedly asserted if the intel flaw will delay or impact apple negatively with new products and services. & i was told no, the intel will not stop apple from providing for its customers/ its services.

???? I am assuming this is suppose to be funny?

pretty much correct, they dont know but looking for anything positive. every damn thing tech wise i'm waiting for has been/is/continues to be pushed back and it sucks.

Me 2... :-(

I really neeeeeed this..

Also from appleinsider.com....
---------
Those troubled Cougar Point chipsets support six Serial ATA ports, which are used to connect devices like hard disk drives or DVD drives. After it began shipping the parts, Intel discovered through stress testing that the SATA ports numbered 0 and 1 on the Cougar Point chipset can degrade in performance over time in extreme conditions. However, Intel noted that the problem does not affect SATA ports 2 through 5, so any system builders that received those parts would be clear ship those parts in desktop systems that utilize only ports 2 through 5.
---

I thought all along, ports 0 and 1 were ok.. .above article from them make it sounds like 0 and 1 is NOT ok.. Am I reading this thing wrong or ??

No you're not reading that wrong, but I think appleinsider is wrong on this one. I would trust andandtech over them and anandtech said ports 0 and 1 were the ones that were not affected.

uggg, who to trust, who not to. all these reports, delays, issues is getting nuts. I may just upgrade a current 15" high end and call it a day. sure SB will offer some higher standard speeds, maybe slimmer and gpu, but if the optical drive goes or the wait is another 2 months at least, i'll be content with a specd out current model. unless a gpu gets mega sick for a mac/ macbook pro or a 1GB vram offer, which i highly doubt, i can pass. gpu is one of biggest deals, SB offers better integrated graphics , so not on par with what i want I believe the 13" mbp is the key leader in this wait debate due to its core 2 duo remaining, lower screen res than the air, etc.. any thoughts unto my theory regarding just going for it before april. cant play the keep up game forever :)

hope rest of you guys think twice so you dont start getting too anxious or crazy over this.

This thread is why the Sandy Bridge

If Apple updates the GPU in the 15" it will be a 425M or 525M (or the AMD equivalent) which is based on nvidia's fermi architecture. Fermi is newer than the architecture of the 330m, which is based on the same architecture as the 200m series. GPU's become outdated much more quickly than CPU's so the MBP having the old 330M is enough reason for me to wait. Sandy Bridge is just icing on the cake for me compared to a GPU update. The biggest problem I have with my current MBP is the small 160 GB HDD. I can tough it out until Apple updates though.

This....

What is holding me back is the current video card in the MBP, this is why I am holding out for an update. Sandy Bridge is not that much better than the current line, so it is only icing on the cake for me as well.

If able does update and does not include sandy bridge, but throws in a better GPU then I will be buying instantly.

For me it's more of
1)SB will be faster obviously(i hope)
2)SB will produce less heat(? this I don't know by how much)
3)SB based will be lighter(i dont care for SD but either way, hopefully it will be lighter(means I don't mind just cpu w/ no discreet graphic card).
4)SB based will make mbp go over 12 hours on battery?

So w/ all these hope riding, I am going to have to tough it out...

Long time lurker, first time poster btw.

I don't like the sound of this possible delay. I'll be getting my first Mac as a gift when I graduate in early June. I want a MBP to carry around with me during my stay at the university I will be attending.
Is it safe to say that these new MBPs will be released before early June?

That is almost sure thing.

You dont have to be steve jobs to tell this... mbp will come out before june.... unless of course another SB collapses

Well internally Intel is working on 0 and 1 being the problem. So ether Anand is just wrong, or her mis-stated what he meant. I would assume that Intel knows what the problem is.

So question is, IF mbp only uses first 2 -- which is most likely -- how realistic is for company like apple to just move to production knowing it has faulty chipset. Or do apple now go back to drawing board on their QA cycle and tell them to test the heck out of this thing and therefore delaying the release of new mbp? Or even worse, tells Intel to give them a new SB because they won't ship anything w/ faulty chip even if they do not use additional ports for laptop(this part I am not sure. Will laptop motherboard even have those additional ports? Can someone more technical than me can go deeper into this?)

Or....Apple tells us all that we have the "fixed" SBs, but gives us the junkers knowing that we'll never know the difference (and they get a nice discount from the droids at Intel). ;) February release, for the win!:D

Yes, we all NEED feb release... mbp is heart and soul of my work... iphone/ipad and others are great.. but need mbp.. MBP!!!!

I really want to pull the trigger right now on a current 15" 2.53GHz model on the education store...I'm just afraid that Apple will release new MBPs on the next day, which is not really that possible, right?

You all do know that mobile chipsets haven't even shipped yet... right? At this time it's highly likely that Apple hasn't even begun production on the new MBP. My best guess is that we will see new MBP's around mid March. April is highly unlikely since then the 2nd iPad should get a release and it makes no sense to release the iPad and the new MBP's at the same time. And after April, the new iMac's should get a release.

And Intel will probably supply Apple first since they need to increase their image again. The best way to do this is to let Apple release new MBP's. This is because when Apple releases something it's instant world wide news, unlike for example when Dell should release something new. With such a move the world would see that Intel has recuperated from their mistake even when it's not true.
