You all do know that mobile chipsets haven't even shipped yet... right? At this time it's highly likely that Apple hasn't even begun production on the new MBP. My best guess is that we will see new MBP's around mid March. April is highly unlikely since then the 2nd iPad should get a release and it makes no sense to release the iPad and the new MBP's at the same time. And after April, the new iMac's should get a release.

And Intel will probably supply Apple first since they need to increase their image again. The best way to do this is to let Apple release new MBP's. This is because when Apple releases something it's instant world wide news, unlike for example when Dell should release something new. With such a move the world would see that Intel has recuperated from their mistake even when it's not true.

yeah i gotta agree with you. I was hoping they would release it before Feb's end but its not looking too good. But good points

I really want to pull the trigger right now on a current 15" 2.53GHz model on the education store...I'm just afraid that Apple will release new MBPs on the next day, which is not really that possible, right?

If you really need it now, I guess you have no choice.
If you just really want to pull the trigger but it's not necessary then I would say wait it out further bit.

Didn't also apple store wave all restocking fee?

At this point, I will even take march release.. But obviously feb is the best for all of us.... grhghghghghgh

I agree. I would expect huge changes to the 15", 17" power, and reasonably large changes to the 13". It will be worth the wait I think. But if you can't wait, then you have no choice. Although "can't wait" generally just means "really inconvenient", so it's just a gamble we all choose to make one way or the other.

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure the restocking fee (or lack thereof) only applies within 14 days of purchase. Hence, if you buy now, and new MBPs are released in 3 weeks, you're out of luck.

I was thinking end of march, so if this pushed it til beginning of april I really dont mind. Makes it easier to wait for back to school deal.

What would they add to it anyway? I don't see anything wrong with the current ones. If you ask me, they'll have them updated when Lion is released. It only makes sense.

Does anyone have any theories on the idea that they could keep the 15 and 17 on the i5 and i7 and just give the 13 an i3 or even i5?

If you consider the power of Macbook Pros, they are already kinda perfect. If they go the direction of all SSD it would give a significant performance boost this season like in the MBAs. (like how there are reports that MBAs are faster than MBPs in a lot of instances) And that boost could be signifcant enough to survive another season?

Isnt all this Sandy Bridge talk all from assumption too? I know Core2Duo is gone for sure but the i5s could theoretically go the distance till another mid cycle spec, right? If I am mistaken please correct me. I am just brainstorming here.

What if they do come early but its because there was never sandy bridge? is that an option at this point? or is there some other rumors that confirms Sandy Bridge this season?

I would rather wait and get tomorrows tech so I am not THAT desperate to have it early if it means I'll be disappointed by the processors' lack of competitiveness in a competitive tech world.

I'm just asking if an early i3/i5/i7 with SSD is a direction that is possible that they went down. Is that a path anyone thinks they could have potentially taken?

Besides using 1-2 generation old processors, having low end video cards, no USB3.0, no blu-ray, and too few USB ports? Yea, I suppose the current edition is pretty good considering the price premium over comparable machines with none of the aforementioned deficiencies. :rolleyes:

The Geekbench score of the 2.4 GHz 13-inch is 3358. My 3 year old macbook has a score of 3061. I guess it wouldn't be much of an improvement for me :)

No leaked pics... should we assume that there will not be a change (or major change) to the case or they have not started producing them yet? i wasn't sure how long before the release leaked pics usually come out...

Apple are usually quite good at keeping their new products under wraps, (unless an employee gets drunk and leaves it at a bar).

i know last time there was a major design change leaked pics got out...That would be certainly encourage me to hold off buying one now (which i am sure is why apple keeps everything in the dark)...Hmmm, we could come together and ship tons of booze to china's apple facilities and maybe something will come out...

Think about it. Wouldn't it be funny.

13" = i3
15" = i5
17" = i7

:)

But seriously guys. Considering the delay and the fact that all the major ones MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte etc are stopping the shipments, and not one news about any rumors @apple..
Somethings fishy.

I mean ok, they can bring prototypes of ipad2 displays, ipod cases etc before the actual happening but nothing on the Macbooks? One should at least think "what the.. Macbooks are one of the favor apple themes for rumors to be, so why is there nothing"

What if everything goes different?
Scenario A) No more Intel but AMD CPU+GPU. (I know, soo unlikely)
Scenario B) Still Core 2 Duos (At which point I will be dramatically pissed)
Scenario C) Apple decides to wait with the update and we actually see an Update late Oktober. (Remeber, there was a rumor that at the same time also the imacs will see an update. Maybe the plan was SandyBridge too. So Imacs are usually end october.. and if they planed to show em both the same time? Shish..

Well just saying what if. (And for those who get boiled up by this, common the whole thread is a what if kinda thingy)

Stands to reason, as the C2D is a three year old processor..... My Dell laptop from 11/2007 has a T7500 2.2ghz C2D.

Not entirely sure, but I expect the anticipation and desire for a refresh is due to the fact that Apple is selling 'new' computers at a premium price with old hardware. Would you expect to go onto a dealer lot and buy a factory new 2008 model car for the same price it listed at in 2008?

You know, we're all talking about a delay - but is it really? Just because they've always refreshed on a certain cycle doesn't mean they always will.

Maybe Apple:apple: will put a BTO option for 15"-17" quad-core sandy bridges soon then make a big update to all models when the dual-core sandy's are available.

I guess because the macbooks will change just the cpus etc, while the iphone 4 is a whole new model and they make many prototypes and give them for testing or something.the laptops will remain and the lab :)

Scenario A) We would 100% know it if there was such a change. Apple can't shut the mouthes of both its employees, and AMD+Intel's :)
Scenario B) So outdated, the only way this happens is if the white macbook and the 13" macbook pro get a basic 2,66ghz c2d and nvidia Geforce 320m 512mb, with maybe 6gb of ram OR an ssd.
Scenario C) 1,5 year for an update? Nah...

Again, I will re-iterate this.

If you waited this long, you are gonna wait(do not pay attention to what specs might change.. it doesn't matter).

If you NEED one now, you have no choice..

guys dont forget that they might add liquid metal instead of the aluminum. It probably explains the recent darker color in apple's menus on the apple's homepage. :D
