One has to be a little more objective when looking at things like this.

The series 7 is the absolute best smart watch on the market by a country mile. If you got one, you’re happy knowing you have the very best available.

if you choose to upgrade your watch every year or every couple years, you’re likely never going to experience grand euphoria due to the myriad revolutionary features compared to your previous watch.

to say this is a crap update really is just a subjective way of saying that the watch doesn’t have enough changed to be a worthy update over your current watch. And that speaks volumes for Apple’s previous watch models. They are all great.

I upgraded from a series 3 to a series 6 this year and I’m very happy. But it didn’t leave me feeling like it was some life altering paradigm shift in watch quality, but it is still better in practically all metrics.

the Apple Watch series 7 is the best watch they have made. Anything prior is a lesser watch. That’s objectively speaking.

Not to be condescending but the series 5 and in particular the series 4, unless they have perfect battery life, make the series 7 a half decent option. Only my opinion. My series 5 was at 83%. It lasted for most of the day but needed a little charge to make it through the evening. Even with AppleCare+, Apple would not change the battery.
But you can pay for a battery replacement. Much cheaper than a new Watch.

If it’s an upgrade and not a downgrade, why would it suck? Purely OP’s personal opinion and would be just a bad move financially to pay more money for an incremental step from the Series 6 which they already own.

Apple doesn’t want to sell their “high quality” battery for “cheap” so they avoid doing so.
My series 4 have 88% left after being used for 3 years, soon to be 4. I daily use it for sleep tracking. Sometimes lasts me throughout the day with a phone call or two. So I’m not feeling compelled to upgrade. AOD is nice but not a must have. Bigger screen? Uh… ok? The processor performance is kind of stagnant atm. And seriously, no aluminium silver space grey and black Color option is BAD. I might go with a blue one if I absolutely have to but that’s not ideal.

I briefly thought about upgrading from my S5 to S7, but meh, it's really nothing that I need. S5 still works well. I'll see what S8 holds in store.

Great upgrade from the 4

I'm upgrading from the 6 and I think it will be worth it for my eyes to read workout stuff at a glance - particularly lane swim.
Also upgrading from a 6 but my grandson is buying the 6 cellular @ $400 so the 7 I want only costs $399 more for the Graphite Stainless Steel Case with Milanese Loop. I want the bigger screen.

I'm sticking with my S4 too. The battery is nearly shot, but $70 for a new battery is worth it to me. I don't find the additional features of S5, S6, or S7 to be worth the price, personally. We'll see what S8 holds next year. Bigger screen? Who cares, it's still a small watch; I'm not typing messages or watching movies. Always-on display? Who cares, it turns on reliably any time I want to look at it just as my S0 before did. What else is there, really?

I was holding off on my battery service with the intention of going for the S7. But there just wasn't much to get excited about. I think even Apple agrees with that statement given their lackluster rollout. I'm not saying it's a bad product; it's just so iterative that there's almost no point in upgrading for a current Watch owner.
I wonder if Apple will replace the whole Watch.

Remember, GadgetBen say "P.S I don't read or care about your replies." He's just screaming into the void.

He bought a watch, read some reviews, and changed his mind about the purchase. Now he's gotta SCREAM!

The reviews make it obvious, this update sucks. I'll stick with my Series 6.

So….you purchased something without being sure you need it? And it is such a major event that you want to share. Ok, only for your information…I think I will have 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast or should I have three? Bacon or no bacon? Ok, agree with you, bacon it is:)

Imo not even worth an upgrade for series 4 and 5 users.
Good choice.
Oh btw, you cant even get black, silver and grey Color Apple Watch series 7 on aluminium lineup, just one less reason to bother about series 7.

Glad its not for you. Other’s mileage differs from yours.

Same. Still on Series 3. I'm tempted but then I thought that my AW3 works just fine and not much innovation in AW7.

Personally I'd like my watch to last at least 2 years before thinking about an upgrade. Just like an iPhone. I have the aluminum gold AW6. Very happy to have the pinkish gold because it being phased out, so no need to upgrade right now.

But I will entertain upgrading to series 8 when the time comes, preferably to something Hermes! :) :D

It only sucks for those who were counting on the slab-sided redesign. Actually it's a pretty solid update in the history of Apple Watch updates. I'm going to upgrade from a 4 to a 7.
Same here and looking forward to it !

We’re still obsessing over how worthy a year over year upgrade is I see.

Listen, I get it. I’m a sucker for upgrading some of my devices every year, but at the same time I’m not expecting some massive changes every year. All these devices (Macs, iPads, iPhones, Watches) generally receive iterative improvements and the majority are likely upgrading from something 3-4 years old.

Myself, I had every Apple Watch from the original to Series 4, and then tried to hold off to not sell and upgrade every year. The one thing that I’ve really been missing is the always on display.
