I update from Series 6. First I have a friend who will buy the old model, so the new 7 costs me about 250€ (aluminium version ofc). Nothing to worry about.
What seduced me at first sight: the new Modular Duo watch face. Crazy, but true.

Maybe he hoped for a super secret surprise like an all new health sensor.. 🤨
But yeah, as you said everything is exactly as expected. Don’t understand all the whiners canceling orders after watching the reviews. Hopefully some of you get your watches delivered sooner 😄
For once the "whiners" are entitled to whine -Apple very deliberately left out key specs so naturally many were ordering in hopes that there might be more than what Apple showed in the presentation, mainly a better main chip than what we got in the Series 6.

There wasn't and I'm happy so many people are jumping ship early instead of ending up regretting their purchases.

And no, I don't buy the whole "Apple isn't trying to get everyone to upgrade every single year" notion -AW 6 to AW 7 is most certainly the least impressive annual upgrade to any product Apple has ever released. It's barely an upgrade at all.

How does the update suck? Larger screen, faster charging, brighter AOD.

Worth it
I've watched several videos on the S7 and I think the larger screen is probably worth the upgrade by itself. I do OK with charging, and I wear the watch basically 24/7 except in the shower. I've never used AOD because it didn't really work for me, but it's possible that the brighter screen will make it work in the S7. Anyway, if the OP is pronouncing a judgment of fact as opposed to his opinion, he's got it completely wrong.

What "key facts" were not available when orders were placed?

It’s probably the smallest year over year update AW has ever had. But it’ll still be a great upgrade from a series 4.

and the slab design was awful. Can’t believe so many wanted that.
I'd nominate S4 -> S5, which added only an AOD display option that IIRC was a real battery-killer for most people (apparently solved with S6). But yeah, I do understand what you're saying.

Yeah same here, every year I sell my current AW for a pretty good price (value retention is actually awesome in the first year ) and throw in another $200 to upgrade to the new one. My main reason for upgrading is actually that I want a fresh battery. I work out everyday for at least 1 hour and so I do a near complete charge cycle everyday. After just one year, that's over 300 cycles. So to me the $200 account for a new battery + a bunch of extra features.
Also I find it weird that a larger sized screen is considered a minor update. It's literally what you look at all the time. If anything my AW5 -> AW6 upgrade really felt useless (the blood O2 sensor is meh), I bet you this upgrade will feel a little better. I'll know tomorrow!

I have a SS series 4, the way I look at it is… is £649 ($699) worth it for AOD, slightly larger screen, faster charging and a couple of extra sensors.

That’s like £162 ($175) for each extra feature…. That is a huge price to pay for very minor upgrades IMO…

Im sticking with my S4 for one more year and see what apple can tempt me with in 2022 as my battery still lasts me a good 17 hours on my S4, I fully expect the battery to degrade massively over the next 12 months but I will see how it’s fairing in late 2022, and make my decision then based on what apple releases.

Whatever. Who cares. I don’t get why people start new threads every year on every Apple upgrade product? If you want to cancel your choice, but no one really cares.
You cared enough to read and comment 🙄

Imo not even worth an upgrade for series 4 and 5 users.
Good choice.
Oh btw, you cant even get black, silver and grey Color Apple Watch series 7 on aluminium lineup, just one less reason to bother about series 7.
Not to be condescending but the series 5 and in particular the series 4, unless they have perfect battery life, make the series 7 a half decent option. Only my opinion. My series 5 was at 83%. It lasted for most of the day but needed a little charge to make it through the evening. Even with AppleCare+, Apple would not change the battery.

How much is a new battery ??

I can hold off for a year, grab myself a new Hermès band and a couple of new watch faces and I’m good! 😂
