Sure they are but when they are saying that it's a phone that can't make calls they loose credibility if people are making calls with it and only .55 percent have a problem

And people here are saying there's no issue. Which is also not true. See how that works?

It is ALL too clear that a percentage of phones are not working the way they should. Whether all are to some degree - who knows.

But if there was NO problem and NO DATA to support a problem, Apple wouldn't of had a press conference nor would they be giving anything out for free NOR would they have tried to shift the blame first to ATT and other carriers and then to other phone manufacturers.

Some people here listen to PR spin and don't know for a second how to LISTEN to what's actually being said. Granted, I've been in the industry for over 20 years - so the language and semantics to me is second nature. But it's unfortunate that some people buy into the messaging 100 percent without stopping to consider the motivations.

The only reason they are giving out free cases is to shut up the complainers and press.

No. That's not why. They are doing it because they know that even if every other phone has a similar issue - theirs is a bigger one.

And .55 percent is a fabricated number. Why? It doesn't take into consideration those that knew of an issue and didn't bother to call in because it was a KNOWN issue and were waiting on a fix

It also doesn't take into consideration how many people went in and exchanged their iphones 1,2 or 3 times since launch

That doesn't at ALL meant .55 percent of the phone have problems and all of the other phones are perfect.

Think for yourself and think logically before you belief some random stat that the CEO of a company doing damage control is trying to present.

I'm not entirely sure why you posted that. I happen to own an iPhone 4 myself and it is definitely the best phone that I have ever used. However, it's foolish to say that anyone has an "unaffected" phone since the problem is a result of the design of the phone.

And their dropped call percentage number didn't take into account all the crazy deathgrippers out there doing it over and over again and intentionally forcing the phones to drop calls to prove their point. So the data in the end probably all balances out.

It's called fear mongering. Someone says my phone is fine and I like it, it works, and then someone always comes along and says Oh but it has the problem you just haven't seen it yet, they all have a problem.

The truth of the matter is the issue only presents itself in very low areas of reception. The phone actually gets better reception than the previous models so the majority of the time anywhere you would experience this is probably somewhere you wouldn't have had service before anyway. For some reason a lot of people want to scare others into thinking that their phone at some point will magically start doing this and that just isn't the case.

Ok - it also didn't reveal anything. If 99 out of 100 calls get dropped and the 4G is worse by less than 1 percent - then it's possible 99.9 percent of calls get dropped.

if 10 per 200 get dropped, it could be 10.99 percent.

In other words - without the baseline - THAT stat is also meaningless

And it's not by mistake - all of these stats were by design. And they intentionally made one or two stats look "bad" to try and add credibility to the good and bad ones. Why? Because if EVERY stat made the iPhone 4 look like it was 100 percent perfect - no one would believe it. It's great audience manipulation.

Steve's comment that was most genuine was that Apple is not perfect. Cell phones are not perfect. And they genuinely care about their customers. They realize that their phone is flawed. They just don't want to admit how big that flaw is. I don't blame them - but I'm also not blinded by the "hype"

In some cases, yes. But at the same time, claiming that your own phone is unaffected is sheer ignorance since all phones are flawed; it just doesn't present itself in all areas. I'm not here to start a debate, but the OP shows an obvious lack of maturity in all his thinking.

They did not fabricate anything people are being stupid. Whenever I have a defective product I immediately take it back. If people don't return the phone then they are using it and it works. So stop all the nonsense use the phone or return it

The truth is that you are biased. And that's ok. If you were unbiased you might realize that your theory of fear mongering works both ways. People try and convince people their phone has no issue or that it's operating "to spec" and others will tell you otherwise. The thing is - both are right and both are wrong.

Steve said himself the iPhone 4 has a reception problem. He said all phones do. REPEAT - HE SAID THE IPHONE 4 HAS A RECEPTION PROBLEM.

How much or how little has MANY factors going into it. There are a ton of variables. Apple spend the last 22 days to try and figure it out - and Steve pretty much indicated they didn't really find answer other than all phones exhibit an issue.

So you can argue that the i4's reception MAY or MAY NOT be as bad as other phones. But you cannot argue that the iPhone 4 does not exhibit a problem. because the CEO himself said it does. Several times.

You are naive. And ego centric. Not everyone behaves the same as you. I know a lot of people that never called AppleCare because they knew of the issue - they read about the issue and were waiting to hear what was going to be done.

I didn't say the .55 was fabricated. I said that .55 is not a ACCURATE picture.

Well I can agree with you there in the way it was worded yes you can't say that some phones are unaffected. It would be more accurate to say that NO phones are affected since really it has nothing to do with the phone at all, it's just the way any phone will act in a low reception area.

But it does have to do with the phone since it was designed in such a way that it has a high propensity to interact with your hand in such a way as to severely affect the signal. The iPhone 4 reacts to your hand in a way that no other phone does, not just to the signal in the area.

+1. I could understand the frustration at first, my phone has the issue too, but it's being blown way out of proportion now. I put a case on it and it's done. Should I have to do it? No. Was I gonna do it anyway? Yup. They made some sacrifices when making this phone that they thought would be better for the user overall. By having the antenna on the outside, space is saved inside the phone for a bigger battery (that we love so much) and the slim form factor that most like, aswell as better reception as a whole if your not bridging the antenna. Every rose has it's thorn.

I think this is by far the best post Ive seen on these forums in the last week. /clap

What you saw was a plea by a guy that is losing millions by having to replace defective phones and who lost 30 million in one day in stock market plus the millions he is losing replacing phones.

Heartfelt? More like trying to flame the fire and ache in his ass where his wallet is. iPhone is a great device but for a company that charges way more than anybody else for their products, they screwed the pooch on this one. But, they do have the best support of anybody else selling cell phones.

Steve wipes his dogs asses with that said 30 mil.....daily.

Well that's just the nature of a cell phones there are going to be factors on both sides (Phone/Network) that affect reception. Yes interacting with the phone can affect reception, but this is true of any phone. So if anything it isn't a design flaw or defective it's a factor of performance. People keep throwing these words around to scare people, Your phone is defective, it has a problem, It's a design flaw. The truth is it should be compared as a performance issue, just like you would battery, processor, memory, etc. Every phone shipped (with the exception of legitimately defective ones) works the performance may vary depending on conditions. This is true of just about any type of product.

That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard the phone is what it is. I'd it doesn't work people would return it. It's that simple what are they waiting for?

It's pointless to try an engage you in conversation. You're too egocentric to see outside your own bubble.

Once they return it they can't run around showing everybody their deathgrip. I wouldn't be surprised if some people bought the phone just for that reason.

Your wrong you touch any antennae and it alters reception. Put your hand on any known antennae location any antennae. Gps, tv, satellite, whatever then come back and tell us what happened.

Nobody else is dumb enough to put the antenna on the outside.

OK THAT is the dumbest thing I've read today...

I sincerely hope you don't think people go out and go through the trouble of buying an iPhone (which wasn't easy given the demand) just to show off the deathgrip? Get real.

And people kept the iPhone waiting to see what would be said at the press conference (this week). Prior to this week - I am sure many people kept it to do their own testing - is it just at work, is it at home. Is it during peak usage times, etc. There are a lot of reasons people wouldn't or didn't return the phone right away just because they experienced the issue.

How about people who didn't really know WHY or thought the signal loss was within tolerance.

Look - as I said - Steve himself said the iPhone4 has a reception issue. Whether you, I or someone else tolerates it and accepts it is the issue - not whether or not the phone is flawed. Apple said the phone is flawed.

Nobody else is dumb enough to put the antenna on the outside.

Oh palease antennas work best when they are on the outside. If not then why wouldn't my satellite be inside, why is reception worse inside a house? The only flaw is that people know where it is and can touch it.
