I see them wherever families with young children tend to hang-out. At the mall especially and at restaurants where they are trying to keep young kids entertained.

As a side note, I rarely see Kindles, but know many who own one.

I was just in Yosemite and saw a TON of them in the lobby of the lodge while people were checking email.

I used to always carry mine around when I had school, it was came in handy when I was in class. But now that i'm done for the summer. I don't really take my ipad out any where but maybe here and there. I also don't see my self using it that much as I did when i was in school. But i'm still glad I have it.

The iPad is with me all the time, except in the kayak or someplace equally unsuitable. It's usually under a car seat then. I rely on the dreadfully slow original iPhone to go online if I must (there is not a lot of free wifi around here) when I'm out and about. I can no longer see the iPhone screen well enough to use it comfortably and the amount of writing I do makes it worth the slightly additional weight of carrying the iPad around instead of just using the phone. I adapted each of the two bags I use on a regular basis(my dslr bag and my daily bag) to carry it. If you can't travel light, might as well have what you most want with you anyway.

Everyone knows what I'm using, but it's been a month or two since I've had anyone show serious interest in it. I'm generally the only one I see out in public with one save for my friends who also have one.

Mine is with me almost everywhere I go however, since I carry it in an incase shoulder bag, no one sees it unless I'm using it. Like at a free WiFi location, Starbucks, Panera Bread, etc. Only one person has commented on it and he was an iPad owner. When I've been at the Dr. or dental office where they do not have WiFi I use it for other things and no one has said anything.

i've only seen one to date, in an airport in Munich.

An elderly lady, 70 or 80, who sounded like she was from NY or NJ, came up to me when i was playing some Angry Birds HD and asked do I know how to check emails on an Apple. lol.

I helped her join a wifi network, and told her it cost to use it for an hour, and she made me enter in her credit card details, eventually she got to check her emails, and walked away a happy camper.

It put a smile on my face to see an elderly lady using an iPad, made my day! :D

Mine goes everywhere with me, even out on the boat every day. (I'm a rescue boat captain). I doubt many people notice because I carry it in a Griffin Elan Passport and find it easier to just use my iPhone when checking mail or briefly looking something up on the internet.

I have seen around 20 -- in train stations, subways, bookstores, and one person was using it while crossing the street.

I split my time between NY and Vegas. When I'm in Vegas, I have it with me all the time; I tend to be "out and about" far more when in Vegas.

In NY, I'm much more of a homebody, so for the most part, I get by with the iPhone and my various Mac and Windows laptops and boxes in the house. But if I know I'm going to be out all day, the iPad comes with me.

btw, here in Vegas, I have seen other people using them. It helps to pass the time while sitting through long sessions of poker at the Bellagio. When the iPad first came out, Bellagio poker room staff was in a quandary as to whether or not to allow iPads to be used at the table (laptops are a definite no-no, phones, iPods, Nintendo DSs are all ok). Fortunately, the staff and I have a good working relationship, and I helped to convince them that an iPad was not a computer (even though we know it is :) ), and at least for now, iPad use is ok in the poker room. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I saw a guy today in front of a shopping mall Apple store using one to watch Yahoo videos off the store's WiFi cause the store was too crowded.

Then I looked into the reflection in the window of the Apple store and the guy was me! Had to do something while the wife shopped elsewhere.

Seen in the wild

I was recently at my church's yearly conference in Nashville, at the downtown hotel-marriott. There was a guy near the Starbucks with his Ipad- my first sighting. Then in the "dealers" center I saw several being used. Last year there were tons of laptops on the dealers floor, but this year only a few- replaced by Ipads.

I'm in the 'iPad goes everywhere with me' camp. I've seen my first two ipads in the wild, other than my co-workers', in the most unusual of places: the first was a man walking across our parking lot to get to the hospital (he had obviously just gotten off a bus) and a woman using one at Costco. In each case, the iPad use looked out-of-place, but to each, their own.

You make this up?

I am surprised how few I see in public. I go to either Starbucks or Barnes and Noble every day and very seldom do I see anyone using one besides myself.

It is because of all the iPads I saw in public that I took the plunge. I played with so many of them due to really nice people willing to show me! I bring mine most of the time with me but am cautious when taking it out. Maybe paranoid too.

Because it and my iphone fit in my purse, they go everywhere with me. Even though I see a lot on the plane and out in larger cities, I've not seen one in our small town. We were at a restaurant with our ipads out and the waitress thought it was cool and wondered what they were. When we told her, she hadn't heard of an iPad.

It (or the iPhone) is the last thing I handle before going to bed, and the first thing I reach for when I wake up in the morn. Scary. Geez between me, my iPhone, and my iPad, it's a gadget ménage.

I've only seen a few. I live close to D.C. which is pretty risky when you take it on the metro or bus, but some people do. I mostly people using them in restaurants.
