It's the numpad that gets me. I've lived without it for two years, but actually it's a pain not to have, especially when you get programs that use it for keyboard shortcuts, as well as just for data entry. That's why I went with the wired keyboard.

Yeah... 99 times out of 100 I'm fine with just a laptop style keyboard... but if I end up taking work home it always takes me ten times longer to do anything in Excel. Even just key combinations like shift-end-down become hard work.

That said I plan on using it for photo and video editing rather than spreadsheet work so will see how I get on (if I ever get it)

Perhaps something like this?

Just take it out when you need it... ;)

Mid set-up, and the desk hadn't been dusted yet — all that dust is leftover from my old computer, which I hastily removed before setting this up.

I dread to think what my desk is going to look like when I move my pc out

To be honest my biggest surprise is the sheer size of the thing! Moving from the 15" Retina MacBook Pro, and being pretty close to the screen, it's taking some getting used to. My sitting position is going to be much healthier with this machine!

I'm using 2 x Samsung 26" screen at the mo. I'll keep one to use as a second display until Apple announce a better thunderbolt display which shouldn't be long

I've ordered the magic trackpad, magic mouse and numeric keyboard. I have a wireless keyboard that I bought when I got my first ipad and I find it a bit too small for working at my desk.

It arrived this morning. I'm brand new to mac so I have no idea what I'm doing but I have built PC's for the last 10 years so Im a quick learn.

I tried using the cool imac desktop usb 3.0 stand but I can't get the usb3's to work right with the supplied usb3 to micro cable :(

OK the desk stand is good to go. I had a bad 7 port power plug outlet so it wasn't powering the desk stand correctly. I swapped it out and everything works perfect. I really like the stand and having four powered usb3 slots right in front of the computer is really cool. The stand looks like it was made by apple everything matches perfectly :)

Does it have enough juice to power usb drive, a WD Passport or similar?

I'll let the inventor know you like it! He'll be happy to hear it. :)

Yes, that makes two of us - my estimated delivery is 2nd December, dispatched last Friday(21st). I'm expecting to receive an email tomorrow to say that they orders have been merged and tracking can begin (I added a superdrive to my order).

Just out of interest why are you expecting an email tomorrow? I was told I would get one 48 business hours before the estimated delivery which I guess means tomorrow.

have to admit I like my keyboards to be flatter, like laptop keyboards

I'm exactly the opposite. I've been using a mechanical keyboard for a while now, and there's nothing like a good Cherry MX keyboard. I couldn't go back now. Scissor style keys just feel cheap.

Different strokes. Mind you, no one makes a mechanical 10 keyless board for Mac. That's annoying. Sigh. I've had to remap a PC board, which does exhibit some minor glitches. Perhaps someday. :)

I have a Mionix mechanical keyboard for PC. How do you remap to work on a Mac?

It isn't difficult. The keyboard mostly works right out of the box. I have a CM Quickfire Rapid-i with Cherry MX Brown keys, and it all works except that the control and command keys are a backward (and mislabeled control and alt, obviously). OSX has a setting you can alter in the keyboard settings to invert these and then all is well, as long as you can live with the mislabeled keys. I keep meaning to get new key caps for it, but I haven't found any I like.

Also the keys to control the screen brightness are in a weird place, and there is no Eject key. These are not typically used by me anyway, so that doesn't bug me.

The only annoyance is that sometimes when the machine goes to sleep, the keyboard will utterly disconnect itself, and I need to unplug it and replug it to get the OS to see it again.

I don't really know Tatty! I think I read on this thread that deliveries merge and you are able to track when the item enters the UK. I'm assuming (probably erroneously!) that if delivery is due 2nd December (Monday) then it must be in the UK tomorrow or Thursday.

The damned parcel could still be sitting in China for all know since I can't track it at the moment! My original date when I ordered was for delivery 25-28th and based on that I had booked Friday the 28th as annual leave. Like you it would be ideal to have iMac available to play with over the weekend!

I must be the only person who doesn't want cheesy, glowing USB ports staring at me. Unnecessary LEDs are unnecessary! :p That's VERY un-Apple-like.

Aside from that it's a nice pseudo-stand. I'm 6'5" so I need something that raises up the iMac substantially more, personally.

I have one of the black Das Keyboards as shown in a photo posted previously.

I really like the key action with the Cherry switches. Noisy, but the tactile feel is perfect.

Be aware however, of one shortcoming of this design. The key legends are printed in very small fonts and are quite difficult to read. Especially the punctuation and symbol keys which are the ones you are most likely to need to locate visually rather than by touch. You will need very good light and/or reading glasses to read them.

Ahh, the 2nd is on Tuesday, not Monday.

I was told that the orders merge when they arrive at a distribution centre in the Netherlands at which point they become one package and we get the tracking number.

My original date was for 21-24 so I should have been playing with mine by now but never mind, it will be here soon enough although I'm seriously beginning to doubt it will be here for the weekend.

Yes I'm using one right now to transfer files from my pc to my new Mac. Will charge everything including my iPad and iPhone

Brill, thanks for that. It will have to wait until next month now though
