Just to update had mine since Wednesday and I love it. Ordered on the 30th October delivered on the 26th November (not great) considering it was my first apple desktop.

I few little quirks but thats more around my configuration and the screen is MASSIVE. Hope I get used to it :D

Tried a few Steam games Tomb Raider, Left 4 Dead and they go a bit mental if you choose 5K resolution. Presume the games just arent made for it.

Image quality is superb and the fans do kick in during gaming and sometimes watching HD video. Nothing like my old gaming rig though so it's what your used to.

You know apple have the smaller desktop form factor so this is to be expected when you jump into the purchase.

So far, loving it.

Hey, I ordered mine on the 15th November - i7, 295X, 8GB RAM, 3TB FD
I was wondering if anyone who ordered more or the less around that time has heard anything since. My order is still processing.

This is my first apple desktop and although I was disappointed with the time it took to deliver (ordered on 30th October and delivered 27th Nov) I have to say I'm very happy with it (except my keyboard, the top left corner seems 'squashed' but they are sending a replacement out to me).

I've spent the best part of 2 days getting everything installed and setup the way I want it and it's fast, fast, fast and the screen is breath taking. I just need apple to hurry up and get a better thunderbolt display on sale cos my old second monitor looks terrible now. In fact, it looks that bad I can't bear haven't it switched on unless I really need to.

I ordered my 5k iMac on Nov 16. It says it will be delivered between Dec. 8-12... which is next week. It still says "order processing" online so I called Apple to confirm. The guy said that there are heavy delays, but I still should receive my order between next week on Dec. 8-12... I guess we'll see about that! ;)

Likewise ordered mine on nov 18th we shall see.

Hey genius (Hauke)! How could you knew yours iMac was to be delivered on that day?

My order was not being far-fetched because have been updated today and imagine what: "Shanghai, China 11/29/2014 1:57 P.M. Export Scan"

Some people used to say such stupidity like that: "Apple used to deliver before the expected delivery date" but this is completely wrong! Because Apple used to deliver, like everyone else, ON THE EXPECTED DATE! This follows a normal distribution or is this so difficult to understand? The expected dates reflect mainly the commutative result of millions of deliveries around the world. Why with Apple, which is using the same companies that other guys do, this would be different? All the genius over there can have a smart answer on this?

I wonder if the ones in these forums having this same speech are actual Apple support partners trying to make more believers on the non-sense?Nevertheless Apple order's website is keeping the non-sense:

At least UPS, apart from 4 days without updates, are telling me some realistic prediction DEC 3
Image

Summarizing: OCT 21 >> DEC 3 ... 43 days! Great work Apple! And amazing work UPS!

The best thing on all this hilarious purchase are the support phone calls and emails but also because Apple just make me realize how useless the retina iMac it is! Because I couldn't wait so long, I kept using my loyal 2007 MacBook and also my 2010 Toshiba (Linux) to complete all the HD movie and Photography work I was willing to do on the missing iMac. I did my work on time :)

Thank you Apple for making me realize how fat-rich-1st-world-worried-guy I am! Now I'm sure I don't need this iMac as long as any 8 years old computer is able to do the very same job.

For the ones who have nothing better to do with the working days off spending this precious time at home waiting for a new computer: get a f* live!

I am sorry for this long post. Amen

Things happen, companies make mistakes, tbh it probably would have been quicker for you to cancel and then re-order.....when you receive it all will be forgiven.....now get back to supping a latte and think of other 1st world problems, and please reign in the whinging.....

yeah there must have been a batch as mine (full wired numeric keyboard) was the same....the escape key & key underneath was stuck as the metal was bashed....it was a bit annoying (though I did have a pc keyboard to use) but I just took it into their covent garden store (didnt make a genius appointment) and they swapped it over.....

its strange as it must have missed QA because there was no damage to the packaging.....ah well, just a relief it wasnt DOA!

Based on what are you saying such thing? Non-sense alert!

And about "all will be forgiven", I'm not sure ... I can tell you I learnt my lesson: one shall not buy new iApples until its maturity curve is achieved.

Was my first time ever buying brand new stuff and I totally regret it.

My delivery date has just changed from 4th Dec to.... Today!!

Have rung UPS and they confirm it will be delivered today but can't give me a time unfortunately.

Spent the weekend spring cleaning my workspace in anticipation. Looks like my positive visualisation paid off...

Crucial RAM is go
Thunderbay 4 is go
Retina iMac - entering final countdown sequence

How exciting!

Judging by some of your replies in this thread I'm beginning to regret you took the plunge also.

Return it then if you're not happy?

It has been a few days since posting, been lost in the wonders of my riMac:) I am sure holes can be picked there have been horrible delays, stress and problems with shipping as well as concerns as to whether the screeen / computer was worth the money but I love my riMac. I only have the base model with 3tb fusion, but it is quiet, fast and just works.:)

Feel a bit stupid saying it but had to google how to turn the beast on

As has been said, not everyone is going to be happy and yes it is a lot of money, but I for one am well happy :D

Ditto, I had to lever the escape key out and as soon as I pressed it, it got stuck again.

I called Apple on Sunday and they are sending me a new one out (should be here tomorrow). I asked them what they want me to do with the faulty one and was told they weren't asking for it back so I'll keep it as a spare. It's usable as long as you don't need escape.

Loving mine too, was worth the wait though admit I'm a bit concerned about GPU temperatures. Is very very nice though

Hello guys!

I'm new here, my name is Olexandr.

I've ordered my iMac on Nov 23 and it's still in a 'processing items' stage. Is that normal? Anyone had experienced such a long 'processing' stage here?

I will be glad for your answers, thanks.

P.S. My congrats to all guys who had received there iMacs already, yeah!

I haven't stretched mine enough to hear a peep out it if.

I'm busy looking for a suitable second monitor though because my old one looks crap. I don't want to buy a thunderbolt until they bring a better one out but I don't know how long I can live with this one.

Hi Olexander.

Some of us were in the processing stage for around four weeks, me included. But, what I can say as a founding member of the 'I survived the Apple store order' club is that is it will eventually turn up and you will quickly forgive Apple for making you wait.

it seems that they must have run low on stock on whatever component it was that slowed our orders down

Mine was that quiet I had to check how to turn it on because hitting the on button didn't seem to do anything. I expected to hear a whoosh of some kind but nothing. Me and my other half stood there looking at each other thinking 'oh ******' but then it made that really loud chime noise as it booted and we both jumped out of our skins.

I think he was more relieved than I was, I'd been pretty much unbearable whilst I was waiting for it. I think he would have left home if it was doa lol

Generally mines silent and happy as.

What I did notice though was I was doing some work in FCP X. I got a bit side tracked and whilst doing something else it began background rendering. Fan kicked in and according to istat it was around 104 degrees!

That said my macbook always got very hot when rendering so It's to be expected I guess, would just be nice to know that it was designed to run up to XXX temperature and that it was ok.

The only other issue was running Netflix. For some reason it brought up an error in Safari about HDCP. I tried Firefox which uses Silverlight and it hit 101 degrees whilst streaming?!? That seems more of an issue to me than 104 in FCP though hopefully its an issue with Silverlight rather than the GPU itself.

Apart from that (potential) issue though I'm still smiling when I use it

My rMBP sometimes get very hot on my knee when I have Illustrator running though I can't see why and I've never really let it bother me.

I smile at mine, especially when I look round the back and marvel at how they get all that tech in such a small space.

What are you using as a pointing device? I have the trackpad and magic mouse but I have found myself back to using my trusty Logitech Performance MX mouse.

Thanks! I think it'll worth the wait.

Considering the fact that I've ordered it to a US forwarding company (to which they actually don't ship, but in fact they do more often than not) and it'll be shipped overseas then to another part of the world...

Pretty much the same here except I went for the 512 SSD. Ordered Nov. 28, expected arrival between Dec. 23 & early Jan.

John Titor, is that you?

41 days counting ... over!

Hello to everybody,

I'm afraid I'll miss this thread: my new retina iMac is finally on my desk.

It looks exactly like an ordinary iMac, but the screen is quite nice and comfortable to look at. It is what I expected from a new iMac: a powerful tool to last, at least, 5 years ... my current/old MacBook is now reaching the 8th year and I'm still using it for the everyday business (the ssd and RAM upgrades have done a huge help on this)

I did the riMac order on the 21st Oct and I had it on the 1st Dec (41 long days). I regret I did this purchase at this time. I should have waited one or two months, because the 4 delays and support interface was something really very much unpleasant, the UPS delivery very bumpy and also because I usually avoid buying the very first versions of anything.

I was never expecting Apple giving me bulls* and banana almost all this time, it was completely new for me in particular from this company. It makes big landmark: there is a before and a after this riMac purchase. No goodwill could buy my trust back.

Now, I'm having very high expectations on this new iMac but also very much concerned about any single issues that I may find on it... If this is the case the decision of return it would be quite easy to make.

I hope all the ones that are still waiting for the new 'thing' are getting it as soon as possible. My advice for a better "waiting for it" is to close the apple and ups webpages it won't make it come faster, just make your mind work much slower. :)

Yeah, as I say my MacBook used to pretty much cook me when I was exporting in FCP and I was never worried about the heat killing it (slightly worried about it cooking me at some points though!).

Pointing device I'm using the magic mouse. I always assumed I'd go with the track pad for the gestures but it seems I can do enough with the Magic Mouse. It's not as comfy as my old Logitech MX mouse but the gestures make up for it.

I'm guessing the ideal set up might be the Logitech MX with the trackpad to hand for gestures maybe?

I use the gestures a lot on my macbook but it doesn't feel intuitive to use them on the imac. I have tried the trackpad but it doesn't feel comfortable, too big. If I had it directly below the keyboard like on the imac then it would but then the keyboard is then too far away to be comfortable nd the left and right click are too far apart

It felt a bit awkward when I tried it in the shop but I put that down to being stood up. I guess a full sized keyboard with trackpad instead of the numberpad could work... though if there are any third party ones I doubt it would support gestures anyway?
