The thing is, I don’t understand why people think they need this amount of fast storage. That’s the key: fast. You don’t. There’s a reason sensible people buy small SSDs and huge HDDs for archival. HDDs can be bought for next to nothing these days and RAID setups for data redundancy are a doddle. Doing this with SSDs? You’d be insane. How often do you actually use all of the files on your phone? I’ll bet the answer is “virtually never”.

I guess people would rather pay $500 for convenience even if they’re not actually going to make much use of that convenience.

And you better hope iCloud is backing up all that data in case you drop your phone in the ocean… ouch. All your eggs in one basket.

I’m going from a white 11 to a Sierra blue pro, pretty sure my wife still won’t notice. It’ll just be a phone to her😂
My wife still has a ‘6’. I hope she doesn’t start looking at new ones as she might see how much mine is costing me.

I remember when you could get an iPhone for $200. Carrier subsidized, of course.
You still can if you trade last years iPhone in for this year. Apple’s trade in prices for last years iPhone 12 Pro/Max are the highest I have ever seen. Trading in my wife’s 12 Pro Max on the 13 Max and only will be $199 difference with military discount. Great deal! :)

Wow. Considering you get a faster phone but pro motion and a new battery, that seems pretty decent. Apple still makes a massive profit too because they then sell your 12 PM as refurbished.

Wow what idiotic post this is... has absolutely no reasoning to buy so much memory, but asking people to give advice how to use that memory?

Your illogical action is something the human species is know for, as is your attempt to find support for such actions. So you do not have to be concerned, you are being human. Since this is a known trait and repeated by many for many years it is logical to conclude you'll be ok. Do not make the common mistake though to conclude from this that other illogical acts will not affect your time on this planet. Live long on prosper.

Welcome to the Big Boys Club. I too ordered the 1TB version because I don't like the "GB" name. TB sounds a lot nicer and I can download tons of my favorite Netflix documentaries. Very happy with my choice. Let's hope it arrives flawless and no dust in the camera lens otherwise it's going back to Timmy.

Erm, you do realise that Netflix has download limits, don’t you? I think it’s newly 30 max downloads at any one time.

OP, nice troll, so many biting, illustrates the sad reasoning of the average Apple consumer.

My turn, I prefer local storage any day, cloud services are a massive cash grab with half baked features/performance.

Why is yours coming so late? what time did you order it

Well tons of people buy Porsche Cayenne Turbos and never exceed 60mph so there‘s nothing out of the ordinary here.

Product managers count on that when designing tiers of the product. They know that a subset of buyers will always choose the highest end tier because it’s “the best” and they “deserve the best.”

The real larf is having 1TB that’s only accessible at USB 2.0 speeds on other devices, it would take like a month to transfer anything.

Add 10gbps USB-C, then I can justify a 1TB, as I can use it as an external drive.

they say a 1 minute video can take up 8 gbs so i think almost everyone has a good reason to get 1tb. although there may be better reasons not too as well.

I’m getting the 1TB but I do have good use for it as I record lots of 4K video at 60fps with my current phone and 256GB remains close to max on several occasions. With the 1TB I’ll be able to take tons of video before having to get to a computer or strong wifi to offload the video from my phone. If there were a faster way to get the files off the phone then I probably wouldn’t need it but transferring large files from the iPhone can be painful, frustrating, and slow at times.

I’m going to stop drinking the kool-aid and try to last 5 years between phones. I always get buyers remorse after getting a new phone as I never feel there is a big jump in performance on each upgrade.. I went from se2 iPhone to a 12pro max and regretted it instantly

This is my iPhone X and you can clearly see I have barely scratched the surface. My decision at the time to buy the 256 GB iPhone X was between a rock and a hard place.

If Apple had offered 128 GB I would have been more than happy. Also, at the time, the job I was doing I was making some seriously good money, so I splurged. It’s overkill, but I don’t regret it either since 64 GB would have been cutting.

Last night I was testing out configuring a iPhone 13 Pro Max for purchase and I went with the 1 TB. If do cross the 1,000 dollar threshold it kinda seems like it makes sense to just move to the 1 TB tier. Considering this is a device you are likely gonna be keeping for years because of the maturity of these devices.

When I do eventually upgrade (2023) I likely will go with 256 GBs again. But put the rest of what would go to a 1 TB purchase into more iCloud storage. I’ve been using mine a lot more for storing and having access to my files on the go.

As for what you can do is maybe use your purchase as a calling. Get into professional film making as a hobby. Still might not justify the regret. When I do upgrade though I plan on getting Pro Max and using it to make a movie about some personal things I’ve been through.

I’ve wanted to explore doing that and the thought keeps coming up in my mind in the past couple of years. I could do it now with my X since I have plenty of storage. But 2023 going into 2025 will be a pivotal period, so, I’ll embark on it then.

Right now, I am conceptualizing, working on a script, recollections and ways to approach this.

My usage is similar to the above post with my 11 Pro Max 256GB.
However I went for the 512GB - overkill yes, will I use it all, probably no, but I do intend to keep this handset for several years now so thought I would 'future-proof' myself as much as I could. I did stick to a 2 year upgrade pattern the last few years, although I intend to stretch this one even further considering the upgrade between handsets is getting smaller every year......
That and I intend to use the video filming more...... (yeh, thats what they all say! lol)

that's stupid. if you don't think you'll need it then why buy it? i mean it's your money you do what you want but why do you feel loyalty towards a multi trillion $ company? or are you just on to brag? cause honestly you are just coming off as having more money than sense lol.

If you have 1TB, but don't need it, no loss. But if you need 1TB and don't have it, you are out of luck.

Do you back it all up to an external storage device? I’d be too worried about losing all my data if it were only on the phone
