Meh. He's only stating the obvious while missing out the fine detail. The 11 is for the average user/masses. But if you want oled and/or bigger battery you get the Pro Max. He wants the bigger battery so has to pay the premium for it. This was Apples plan, everything is as it should be.

Opinion of the differences become more polarised as Apples prices get higher. Some just don't see the value in buying the top tier iphone when the guts of all 11th gen iPhones are the same. But then some people want the very best Apple brings, materials, battery etc and are willing to spend.

The comments I read daily about OLED being the best thing since sliced bread maybe valid, for some. Some of this group also want to say LCD is now garbage despite only two years ago believing Apple made some of the best on the market (ipads are still LCD, Macbooks are still LCD, iMacs are still LCD). I still think the ipad Pros have the very best screen I've ever seen on a mobile device, they make the Macbook look so average.

Buy whatever works for you. The iphone 11 will be Apples best selling iphone this year. The Pro Max is still the best Apple makes.
I’d say that’s a very fair analysis. The Pro series are the niche end of the market for people keen to have the very best. The 11 is the iPhone most people will be interested in though. I certainly won’t be buying the high end devices as long as there is an 11 type phone available. It’s good and exciting enough for me. I’m more excited about the Apple Watch than the iPhone these days.

I wouldn't say niche lol, we are talking phones here anyone can get one these days that can pass a credit check, I much prefer to spend my money on the best iPhone than the watch, over them had a S2 and S4.

I havn't tried a 11 but if it's the same screen and size to the Xr i had for 8 months i wouldn't bother. nothing exciting about it.

Lots of ip11 hate in this thread, sure it’s LCD but Apple has had the best LCD’s on the market, past and present.
I did this dance a year ago. I first purchased an xs max. I thought it may have been an overspend on a device and I exchanged it for the xr. After having the xr for 3 days or so I made one last exchange and went back to the xs max. It was the more premium feeling of the device in my hands, the slightly bigger keyboard and text when messaging, the dual lenses, the screen quality. also at the time the max had more ram and 3D Touch. If I was on a budget I wouldn’t have blinked twice on the xr but fortunately a few hundred dollars difference wasnt a difference for me.

We’re all different. I say niche in that I see far less people with the Pro series and the iPhone 11 is the phone Apple plugs most of its marketing into. Having tried both phones myself I don’t know how you can suggest there’s nothing exciting about the 11 but think the Pro is any more exciting? They are very similar in terms of experience and personally I’m not going to pay £1k when I can pay £720 for essentially the same phone. Subtle differences about screen technology and a wide angle camera are really appealing to a much smaller part of the market.

At least the Apple Watch still seems to attract interest too and because it’s growing in popularity and is yet to plateau with consumers, I think it’ll get more buzz for a couple more years yet.

I wouldn’t say I’m on a budget either as I’m lucky enough to afford the things I want. I just don’t see the benefits of spending the best part of £1100 on a device that isn’t £400 better than the more popular phone in the range. We are all different though and it’s good to have choice. We Dan assume everybody cares about OLED and stainless steel edges though.

You bang on about that every year, you were saying same about the max, never see any.

I had a Xr for 8 months so know the differences. Here the diff between 256gb models is $550, worth every cent imo. There is more than subtle differences if you look into it.
Not everyone wants a big bezelled, fatter, heavier phone either, so are prepared to pay top $$ for smaller but the best.

I wouldn’t say I don’t see any but far far fewer than other iPhones. The iPhone 8 and XR are very common. Bang on about it every year? I don’t think I’ve ever encountered you on here before? You only joined here this year, June in fact lol.

ASI say we are all different in what we like. I know the differences too it’s worth noting.

I have been a long time lurker, and you used to say you only saw 8 and 8 plus phones when the xs max was out, now it’s 8 and Xr no pro’s lol.

Well it’s a year on now and the XS is a lot cheaper now and the offers are more attractive than a year ago, just think about that.

Are you a long time lurker or someone who has joined under a new username because you were removed previously? Hmmmm.

I live near a school and a college. I see the kids and teens using plus size iphones mostly, maybe they've been hand me downs from parents? When I'm at work on my business estate I mostly see X, XS Max's and S10s (usually with cracked screens).

I work at a world renown university and I see students with mostly 8 non plus’ and X’s.

I work in consulting for Fortune 100 companies, many in the top 25, most recently, one in the top 5. I see more X, XS, XS Max, and starting to see a few 11 Pro/Pro Max iPhones. Where I live in the US, I also see far more 11 Pro commercials aired by Apple and the carriers. That must surely mean that the higher-priced iPhones are the better, more popular phones. My own worldview must mean it is the definition for everyone after all. Let me ring up the analysts and tell them they can stop because the answers lie with me, naturalstar, Macrumors poster since 2012.

These price/value debates so often devolve into limited worldviews. Justify your purchases, cheap or expensive, however you like. Apple in the end is making money regardless. Their goal is to get these devices sold and into the hands of as many customers in whatever market they have a presence. Pricing tiers from the low $400’s to over $1200. If the rumored $399 next SE becomes reality, the range widens. Pick the one you’re willing to pay for, then live and let live.

Mark this though, there isn’t frivolous spending in buying the most expensive iPhone. There isn’t some virtuous blessing in buying the least expensive new iPhone. There isn’t some pitiful shame in buying an older/cheaper/used iPhone or receiving one as a hand-me down. Maybe some of this holds in personal (sanctimonious) opinion, but at the end of the day, these are just choices made on the options provided based on individual decisions. That’s it.

If you dont have the money go for the 11,if the 11 is too expansive still wait for the se2 ..Apple is making more and more money from services nowadays, since its become the nr2 income for apple..so no matter if you go with 300$ or 1500$ apple is making money from the device sold but more from app store icloud apple music etc

Yea but with device payments you might as get the latest and greatest Pro.

I love my candy red iPhone 11. Apple made it easy for me. I didn’t like the smaller phone, and I didn’t like the big phone. I also didn’t want to pay $999+ for a new phone. Thank you Apple

Depends how low the device payments are though as it doesn’t make the Pro a cheaper device to own. Most contracts for it are around £70-80 a month. The iPhone 11 can be had for £30-40 so there’s a clear difference. For me it’s not about physical cost but actual worth. There’s just not enough difference between mid tier and high end iPhones for my tastes to justify the price difference. People really into tech may feel different but then it’s reasonable to suggest not everybody see the gains.

All this ordering / retourning has a cost for Apple. I you do that... you lose the right of complaining on Apple prices.

The difference in the USA between a non Pro 11 and 11 Pro is about $12 a month for 24 months.

That’s why America is Apples biggest market for new devices and continents like Europe tend to have more people keeping phones longer. The XR and 11 are the biggest sellers here as the deals are much more competitive.

Well rumours are the iPhone 12 will have OLED so that’s one feature that may come next year

My wife has the 11 and she loves it. Price point is about where she’s happy with. She wouldn’t spend no more than £750-£800 on a phone

And going forward she’s going contract only which she doesn’t want to pay anymore than £50 a month

I’m with your wife on that mindset. Going forward I’d like to cut back on my phone expense, not increase it. It’s cost me a fortune over the years. I’ll change my 8+ next year and be looking at the iPhone 12 I think. My current phone is still lightning fast and has a monster battery so it’s difficult to be attracted by a new iPhone right now.

Exactly, ever since the Retina display on iPhones was LCD. And LCD is way natural, nothing to mess with the OLED technology that keeps blinking amd burning.

just to be fair, among my friends and family, two own an XR, one has the XS Max, two have the 11 Pro Max, and I have the regular 11. Still a few 7’s and 8’s around though.

The iPhone X with its oled screen has been around for a while now. Has there been any mass reports of burn in?
