Still waiting on this eBay case.
I dont know if i should just escalate it myself or just wait it out.
They already put a hold on my funds, though -_-

I sold my 3 previous iphone thru craigslist, and always do it in starbucks, where they have security camera and many people around.

THIS.
I cannot fathom why people still use ebay or crooks from Paypal. You pay them fees which are not small and you are offered virtually no protection. And if you set the craigslist transaction right there is no risk meeting a criminal (public place, daylight, take friend as bodyguard)

Before I sold my iphone4 I made SURE I did a bunch of research by reading posts like these. No way was I going to sell on Ebay after hearing the horror stories. I was even afraid of Craig's list... But I did end up selling it on Craig's list. I met him in a Starbucks. Everything went smoothly and turns out he was just as nervous as I was.

Sucks for the OP but you really need to do research and cover your a$$ when selling things worth a decent amount of money.

You can always arm yourself with a hot non-fat latte if he act stupid.:D

Ebay has requirements that sellers must follow. If you did then ebay will cover you if the package shows as delivered.

Most who say ebay screws you are not aware of the seller requirements and did not meet them.

Here is the proper answer. I sold an iPhone 3G to Belarus, signature required, insured, etc. and it went fine. I paid for the insurance on the shipping (per eBay rules, you can't make the buyer pay extra for this). Not talking about OP here, just along the lines of your comments, eBay sellers want to be "penny wise and pound foolish" and when they do get burned, most often it was avoidable.

Yes but that's added cost on top of ebay and paypal fees. You are paying them more just to sell your item. After all the fees you end up with considerably less.

Ebay/PayPal almost always gives the buyer benefit of the doubt.

If you properly insured the package, you should be able to make an insurance claim. After all, that's what insurance is for. I would suggest you pursue this avenue and not waste your time on eBay/PayPal appeals.

Good luck!

eBay and Paypal side with the buyer because they seriously don't care abut either of you. All they care about is themselves.

Because Paypal holds the money when processing the payment, Paypal always sides with the buyer because the buyer could always file a chargeback and get his money back and Paypal would be out of their money.

If they side with the buyer and keep the buyer happy, the buyer will keep buying. The seller has no recourse whatsoever. eBay/Paypal knows this.

So, yes, they are crooks.

Absolutely. However if you get a higher price by opening up overseas bidding, it can net out to a better deal for the seller.

The OP said buyer receive the package, so the shipper is out of the loop, what's inside or wasn't inside the box is another story, OP can ship rocks inside the package, the shipper in United State, Russia, or the custom can steal the merchandise, the buyer can receive the merchandise and claim nothing inside, so who should eBay, PayPal or the insurance side with.

The only thing known is OP ship a package and buyer receive a package.

I guess the only way to thwart this scam in the future is to have someone video record you putting the item in the package and sealing it and shipping it at the post office.

What a wonderful world we live in huh?

Okay, so I recently sold my old iPhone on eBay to some dude in Russia. He has 100% feedback, so I thought I would be safe. I put insurance on the package just in case. (signature confirmation was not an available option for overseas)

So just the other day, he filed a case on eBay saying that he did not receive the package. (I purchased the shipping label via ebay, and the tracking number says he received the package, but he notes that the phone wasn't in the box.)

He says he contacted the Russian post and they are investigating.

I'm scared that I'm going to be out of pretty much 400 bucks. I've heard that eBay ALWAYS sides with the buyer. It just isn't fair. I'm an honest seller with hundreds of perfect feedback.

I just don't understand why he filed a case. He's already guaranteed the money since I bought insurance. My instincts are telling me he has the phone. It's not fair that in the end I'm left with no phone and he's ending up with 400 dollars.

I contacted ebay right away, and they assured me that they wouldn't allow him to get a refund if the package says it was delivered.

I'm still scared though. I don't know what to do.
I have the serial and IMEI number. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Dont send packages internationally

Signature confirmation is an option if you send it through USPS express mail. Sorry, but you'll probably be out the money because delivery confirmation isn't enough for them. I had a similar problem with something I purchased overseas and sent back. PayPal requested a copy of the signed label, which I sent them, but then they still denied the claim anyways. I had to talk to 3 more people before I could finally get someone to open the case up again and the money was refunded the next day. Keep trying with different reps though (and supervisors), this process took me weeks. Good luck!

not gonna read all 4 pages of "you're screwed op" so ...

OP, you're NOT screwed if you indeed did purchase insurance.

i sold 3 iphone 4S recently to buyers in Russia. All of them got there the way I sent it from Canada.

I guess I got lucky but next time around, I'll only sell to countries that I can get signature confirmation.

you should probably call the shipping service and tell them they received an empty package and since you put insurance on it, they may reimburse you. worth a shot.

This is a really interesting situation. I sold two iPhone 4S's on eBay recently, (but refused to ship internationally for fear of being ripped off), and when I took the sealed and ready-to-go box into the UPS store be shipped, the guy wouldn't let me ship them right away. He said that because I had insured the package for so much (i.e. $1900 USD; the same person bought both iPhones), he would have to inspect the package and note the contents. He did just that:he opened the box up and re-sealed it right in front of me and wrote "iPhones" in the package contents section of the form (or whatever the form calls it). Obviously, he must've done it to protect against fraudulent insurance claims, but it does double duty and protects me form "never received" claims.

Now, any time I sell something on eBay, I'm going to insist that the employee at the UPS store does this (I don't use FedEx due to multiple issues with them), because this seems to be a surefire way to beat a Paypal claim of not receiving the item.
