I took my 3GS out of the case and it was amazing. Then again, I have a Speck candy shell and that really makes your phone like a brick. I wonder if it will get scratches if I just keep it in the pocket of my jeans. Any ideas from iPhone 3G/S users or ex Iphone 3G/s users?

I've owned every iPhone that Apple has released and never used a case and never had a problem. Yes my phone got scratched up but that's normal for any phone.

If you feel as if you're going to drop it or worry about dropping it, get a case or 3rd party phone insurance. The iPhone 4 is a beautiful design, why ugly it up with a bulking case?

You've never had a glass phone before.

No more cases for me either. I just have a cheap clear film from Amazon(pack of 3, at £2, inc shipping) on the back, so I can lay it on a table, with no second thoughts.

I bought some rubber/silicon case from best buy the other day for my iphone4.

To be honest i hated the 3gs and 4 naked. To me and my long fingers they were too difficult to hold. With the nice rubber case, it gives me something nice i can grab onto and hold, my finger wrap around way better. (EDIT: Well i don't think the 3gs was difficult to hold, but it was too damned slippery)

For the iphone4, the case improves RF performance so that is important to me. Also the phone felt too small and thin for my likings. The other important thing is that it keeps the camera lens elevated above whatever surface i set the phone down on.

Now phones do get scuffed up inside the case, so for the 4 i installed a zagg dry shield on the front and back :D This phone shall be in excellent condition a year from now when i may sell it, and that is key.

The Apple bumper worked.....but....

I had the Apple bumper on my phone for awhile and I have dropped the phone on asphalt and concrete 3 times. Each time I was lucky that it hit on the bumper and not face down.

A week or so ago I decided that the phone was easier to handle, felt better, looked better, and fit better in my pocket without the bumper. So, I removed it. Now I seem to be much more careful with my phone.

I'll probably drop it today and break the glass but I hope not.

I'm with you....phone naked!

I have to say for the last 2weeks I've been using my iphone 4 and iPad 3G without a case... I usually use the bumper for the iPhone and the apple case for the iPad... but the problem is it's hard to clean the glass with these cases on... and I clean my screens everyday... I have the bestskinsever on the front and back of the iphone4 and am starting to think that it's enough...

I'm only rocking my i4 caseless now until I receive my Candyshell & Impact Band. If I can avoid breaking this phone and having to replace it by paying $200 then I will do so by rocking a case on it.

Going caseless is fine and believe it or not, Apple will replace the phone if you drop it and crack it from less than 4 feet.

Enjoy going caseless but boy you'll hit yourself in the head if you crack that glass. :D

These threads always make me hella nervous. I've had my iPhone less than a week and all I have on it is the pixelskin HD. I've got some Power Support screen protectors coming in the mail and all I can think about is how scratched the front will get in the next few days before they arrive.

And then the back, even though protected technically by the case, is also prone to scratches, so I'll have to buy a set for that too, though I'll end up with an extra front I don't need.

Check eBay. You can get cheap protector sets for pennies. Since you already have a case, you can just slap the back protector on to shield it from the case and then have a spare front protector as well. That's what I do :D

My suggestion to anyone wanting to go caseless but still wants some protection in their pockets, etc., is to go with a Sena UltraSlim case.

Caseless, screen protectorless and scratchless. I'm just careful.

Amen to that, i'm the same way since June 24th. Honestly with an iPhone 4 if you put a screen protector on it you completely ruin the retina display, might as well have a 3G the screen looks horrible.

My retina display looks just fine with a good protector thank you.

Caseless and screen protectorless since launch day. There's a few light scratches scattered across the back, and perhaps a small scuff on the metal ring near the top (which appeared in the week I kept it in a Bumper... coincidence? I think not.) but otherwise it looks perfect. I haven't used a case on any of my iPhones, going back to the far off year of 2007, and have yet to break one by dropping it.

Every time I've taken off a case on all of the phones I've owned, I drop the phone. So....... logic tells me to keep the case on. I would love to go caseless because the iPhone 4 is a gorgeous device but I don't think I can take having it shatter lol.

I'm planning on going "caseless" soon, but with a couple of minor changes to toughen it up a bit. I will have a Bodyguardz film around the metal band and I plan to replace the back glass with an aluminum plate to reduce the chance of breakage.
I'm not worried about the front screen enough to use a screen protector. I've been using iPhones since 2007 and w/o one and have never scratched a screen.

Naked is the only way to go. The iPhone 4 is too damn beautiful to put in a case. I've been caseless since August 23. I did scratch my camera, though, shortly after the purchase date. Apple replaces the back housing for $29 dollars. I was ready to pay for a replacement, but the local Apple store was too busy so I was asked to come back the next day and get it done for free. It's been about 2 months since I had that replaced and I have zero scratches on the camera lens cover. I'm kind of convinced the first one was defective.

Anyway, my phone is scratch free. It's either in my pocket or on a table all day.
