One can assume that, if they are planning to support iCloud in SL, it has been a far far lesser priority than getting it supported in Lion. It's gotta be in the pipeline somewhere. I just hope, if it is indeed in the pipeline, that it gets out long before MobileMe expires for good in June next year!
Having iCloud work in both Snow Leopard and Lion would be a much less traumatic transition for thousands of customers. I would hazard a guess that there were more SL customers than there were Lion customers.

I'm not a happy puppy. Apple should have sent a preparatory letter to all their Mobile Me customers telling them how to back up MM, what to expect of the transition(multiple Apple IDs), etc. That would have made the path a little easier and less stressful for all.

Anyone else getting this lovely little message when attempting to move from MobileMe to iCloud?

Okay I'm sorry if I'm repeating a question but if I have a Mobile Me account that is used only to sync contacts and calendars (do not use the email because I couldn't be bothered asking everyone to change and I was happy with my gmail account) do I need to sign in with MM in iCloud to keep my contacts and calendars? Or will they just come across from my laptop and iPhone if I use my iTunes Apple ID which is my gmail account?

I don't want to lose my contacts but I also don't want to run into any problems by using two emails. Anybody in the same boat who did not use their Mobile Me account and still has their contacts or alternatively lost them?

If you are getting the 3200 error, read this!

Ok I just figured it out... using Little Snitch on the mac, and the iPhone Configuration tool... the 3200 error happens because when you choose the iPhone2,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw (or the one for your phone, this one is the one my dad has) it uncompresses that file, and it talks to apple to make sure the checksum checks. Because the server is overloaded it bounces back and doesnt allow the check to go through. iTunes receives it as an error and "blocks" the update.

I blew away the iOS5 on my iPod Touch Gen 4 and put the new release in there and it gave me the same reason. I am just going to wait a day for it to clear up.

well i got this

I did too. Any thoughts? Just down.

I also have this crazy thing going on where I need to change the iCloud name on my iPad because I accidentally put in my Apple ID instead of my MobileMe. However, it is greyed out. Anyone know how to change the iCloud account once the device has it created?

I had the same problem, and deleting my old MM account from the Mail/Calendars/etc area in Settings seemed to fix it...

i can't even do that. i go to settings>mail>mobileme crash to desktop. it opens the account just long enough for me to scroll down to the "delete account" button and crashes. i guess i'm going to have to do a full restore....

Yes. I've tried multiple times and it always ends the same. Maybe they are staggering the order of who can switch and we're just in a later grouping. I don't know, that's all I can think of since others are changing over without trouble.

I don't get it...

Serious question to you all who upgraded...or anyone for that matter.

What does iCloud have that MM did not?
Backup, Ok- but that could have been added to MM IMO.

What else? Because with MM, I could sync across all of my iOS/Mac devices at all times, with not so much of an issue.

Cleaning up mail/smtp maybe, but iDisk, Gallery, Keychains, Signatures etc were perfectly functional, as well as address book, ical and the like.

Enter iCloud; taketh away, and muck up what was in place. WTF are they doing with this?

iCloud already has existed now since .mac; yet it's been re-branded 2 times since then. I personally think they are hurting themselves with this move.
Finally, here we all are on a tech forum scratching our heads on what to use as a transition email/login etc. Imagine what mom and dad or the average user are going to think or do.

This.

I guess we'll hear about iTunes Match etc?

Turn on airplane mode first, then it won't crash.

It really was not communicated clearly in the moving process how much this would cock things up for MM users who are still using Snow Leopard. Very disappointing :-(

Bad show Apple.

If i have an old mobile me account that has expired (it was a free trial period one) can I reactivate??

I found this earlier today but I haven't been able to verify yet if it's accurate. I hope they do allow it as I have a MobileMe account that I wasn't able to renew earlier this year and was told by Apple a few months back that I'd regain access to it when iCloud is released.

This whole Multiple id, iCloud, iTunes acct thing should not be as big a problem for most people as I usually see it made out to be.

I've been using all these services for a while now and I haven't come across a problem, besides the inconvenience of having multiple ids/passwords.

The only way i could see this being a problem is if you have multiple purchases on multiple accts. iOS 5 allows you to be signed into different accounts for different things.

I personally have two id's a MM acct and and iTunes acct. I had the iTunes acct first and used it for all of my purchases. Then i got a mm account and used it for mail and sync and whatnot. Now with iCloud I moved my MM acct to iCloud. so thats the acct i sign into iCloud with on my phone. For the iTunes store i am still signed into my original iTunes acct with my purchases(apps, music) for iTunes match i signed up with my iTunes acct.

All of this stuff works flawlessly and i have not had a problem. If i buy a new app I use my OG iTunes acct pw. When i login to iCloud, in the browser, on my phone, etc i use the mm acct that moved I to iCloud. iTunes in my computer is logged into my iTunes acct. Again this setup has been working flawlessly for months and i've had no problems. Hope this helps. Reply if you have a question.

This +1. It's only confusing if you think about it too much. I have three mobileme accounts and one iTunes Store account. Works fine...
